Some impressions or events stick.

Two for me are:
1. I was there: Dennis Banks taking a speccy, did well to hang on. Thing is it was so speccy because Pedro Foster gave him a mid air hip and shoulder that sent him sideways.
The hip and shoulder were far more speccy than the mark. I saw it.

2. I was there but I wish I could forget: Rod Grinter round arm assault on Terry Wallace. Violent and criminal, forget tribunal, bring in police.

Scott Wynd convulsing in the middle of the ground after getting cleaned up by Justin Madden (think it was him) after a ruck contest at Prince's Park. Madden didn't bother going for the ball, just ran through the centre square and elbowed Wynd.

Garry Merrington (?) running down the ground and taking one too many bounces only for the ball to bounce back over his head into the lap of Peter Hudson who turned around and dobbed a goal off one step.

Richard Osborne kicking a goal at the Geelong Rd end from alongside the visitors race. Chris Grant once told me it was the best goal he ever saw.

Manning a donation station as a 17 year old in 1989 for a week on Summerhill. Caught the train up every day from Geelong. Was a crazy time. Scored some awesome Save the Bulldogs memorabilia. Gary O'Donnell, Alan Ezard, Matthew Feeby and Gavin Crosisca were a few players who came past our station and donated.

One I meant to post last night was Shane Loveless snatching Bruce Doull's headband and throwing it into the crowd on the Gordon Street side of the ground. Doull's eyes started spinning and he took a step towards Loveless who gave him a hard look and shaped up to him. It's the only time I ever saw Bruce Doull back down.

Some of my memories/images from 'off' the field...

Sliding down the embankment behind the Cross Street goals on old cardboard boxes when it was wet and slippery after a game

Going to the Whitten Oval on a Sunday (following a game with an uncle who was a committee member), and playing on a construction site that eventually became the EJ Whitten Stand

Going with the same uncle to watch games in the Latrobe Valley where he was 'scouting' for players when the LV was our country recruiting zone

Asking people in the crowd for their empty soft drink bottles at half time and collecting the proceeds for 2 pennies (I think 2 pence was the going rate in the late '60s/early 70s)

Visiting my aunt who was part of the 'ladies' committee at half time in the John Gent stand for sandwiches

Going to Charlie Sutton's pub in Whitehall St Yarraville (Commercial) with my dad after he took me to Footscray Library on a Friday night. Eventually I was banned as the men in the bar were uncomfortable with a kid unnecessarily hearing the odd swear word (which I would never have noticed since I was too engrossed with my glass of raspberry lemonade!)

When did that stand get pulled down? Was that the one known as the 'cow shed'?

What a shock on a winter's afternoon for an eastern suburbs boy making a rare trek to the WO! A circus to me at that time had nothing to do with women expressing themselves, rather, they were all about Silvers and their questionable attitudes towards animals and people, and a feeling of privilege through being able to afford the Rye carnival a few nights a year!

It was the Bulldogs player's race and it was the Barkley St end. I used to stand on the concrete wall edge on the side of the Bulldog player race so Ossy started his run up just in front of us. He was just about inside the race when he started his run up.

I was able to be head-high with the adults standing on that bit. It was a goldmine for crowd banter.

I also remember someone once mouthing off to Billy Kolyniuk and inside the race, away from prying umpire & camera eyes, Billy gave the opposition player a bitchslap to the cheek that was so loud it seemed to echo off the front of the EJ Whitten stand. Fortunate little boundary throw in that one.

PS - it was Galaxy Coleman who broke the post, not Foster.

I'll always remember Gloves Campbell keeping (then St Kildas player) Plugger goalless in a half, and as he walked through the player's race someone screamed out "You're killing him ya big poof!"

For some reason, I always remember Bazza Stanfield running back with the flight of the ball and sticking one hand out as he tripped and marking the ball as players were running towards it. He could have been absolutely smashed but he never took his eyes off the ball.

I vividly remember us all standing there after that game just staring at the Hawthorn players hen a friend of mine groaned and yelled "will this club ever take a trick?" (there might have been a couple of swear words in there too).

Another great goal was by Matthew Campbell of the Bears, last round in 1992 at the Geelong Rd end. Torpedo from well inside the Centre Square (directly infront). Had to have travelled ~80 metres. The goal umpire did not move as it sailed directly over his head. The 20,000-plus crowd gave it a warm round of applause.

Last practice match. It was Murph's first year. He wasn't playing but standing near me on the Grandstand size. Next minute he has a microphone in his hand and he starts to commentate on the game. I thought to myself who is this kid. Lot of laughs from other supporters too. Not surprised he has a media career.

Definitely the Geelong Rd end. I was a ground attendant at the Geelong Rd end and it was toward the end I was sitting at. My dad said "he's not, he is, he *!*!*!*!ing did!". I'm prepared to believe that he kicked one to the Barkly st end too. He had a habit of unleashing long bombs.

BTW the Johnno goal was v Brisbane not Geelong. Here at 06.36

I went to Dogs last game at Albert Park. My Swans friend and flat sharer told me our new flatmate was keen on me. We married and had 3 children.

Someone set light to the streamers, and toilet paper "confetti" at the outer end, how we cheered the goal umpire and the cop trying to stamp out the flames. Another night (same end) a very drunk gentleman climbed one of the light towers, and proceeded to put on an acrobatic demonstration for the appreciative crowd. "Look Mum, no hands". Sensible Police Sergeant waited at the base. "He's got to come down sometime, I am not going up there after him". Also the three quarter time the cross oval races, patrons v cops. One wet night a young guy was being chased by the Police horse, and made a fairly good fist of it. The ground was wet and the horse was having difficulty changing direction. It was all good fun until the poor horse finally fell, depositing the rider on the wet ground. Eventually the guy was collared by foot Police. Once it was clear that no-one was hurt, horse included, the guy was escorted out to ringing cheers from the crowd.

So much happened the semi dark areas of the ground, both on and off the field. I will also never forget one Swans player's cowardly hit on David Thorpe. The play was fifty metres away, and he ran at David from behind, and floored him with a punch to the head. It was right in front of us. It had to be from behind, not too many would have been game to try it face to face.

Great recollections Jeanette. I can just remember listening to an early 1970's night game on the radio. It seemed very low profile. Pity there is no photo's/video of the games.

We won the most premierships in the Night Series. 4. Sometimes we would finish close to the bottom of the ladder and still win the title. For those who don't know it was for teams that didn't make the finals so it was played at the end of the season. A reverse pre season comp.

I remember sitting in front of the radio as a kid listening to the Brownlow count hoping Georgie Bisset won and then being disappointed when pipped on the line. Georgie reported after being best on ground with most disposals and kicking lots of goals, only to be exonerated at the tribunal, after the umpires had already cast their votes. He was robbed.

- Just being at the Whitten Oval and seeing the amazing crowd there the day after we won the 2016 premiership. The lines to get in that day were huge. Remember seeing Billy Brownless there for the Sunday Footy show and possibly Doug Hawkins.

- The excitement in lining up on the Whitten Oval to get a photo with premiership cup.

- The GF training session also sticks as well that was amazing watching the EJ Whitten stand rock that morning. I remember hesain’t one of our supporters saying that had travelled from the country for this training session.

- Just going on the train from the eastern suburbs to West Footscray and walking West Footscray station when I have gone to and from the ground. Hoping to drive to and from there one day.

- High fiving a random Doggies supporter on Level 4 at the G after we won the flag and seeing some supporters near me in tears.

- The last game I attended at Marvel when we beat the Bombers by 100 odd points and just beaming at the victory we had with sad Bombers supporters around.

- Wish I had random memories from the 70s and 80s but Eastdog wasn’t around then :D

Nah, you don't want that Easty. Lots of frustrating years. 70s only made finals twice, and lost twice. 80s were terrible also from 1980 to 84. 85 was a great year and very enjoyable making a prelim, but after that just missed finals every year.

Much better in the 90s, playing finals in 92, 94, 97, 98, 99, 00 then 2000s with 2006, 08, 09, 10, 15, 16, 19, 20.

You are lucky while you are still young and hope to have more finals and premierships in coming years.
