A few stats:
Age : 31
Height: 187cm
Weight: 86Kg
Games: 173
The Western Bulldogs' 2016 AFL Premiership captain, and All Australian, Wood is an athletic, intercept-marking defender who has the ability to play on a range of different opponents. Debuting in 2009, injury restricted Wood to just 45 games in his first five seasons, however has since gone on to achieve 150 career games in 2019. A cornerstone of the Bulldogs' defense under Luke Beveridge, Wood enjoyed a stellar 2015 season, playing 22 games and achieving All Australian honours for the first time. In 2016, Wood stepped into the captaincy role in the absence of Bob Murphy, leading the Club to it's historic premiership victory. The athletic defender was recruited to the Bulldogs through the 2007 AFL National Draft with the Club’s third round selection (pick 43 overall).

Easton is definitely AFL quality but he is approaching the end of his career. I feel he has been border line since 2016 and I would like to see the premiership captain have a great season and go out on a high. If someone can step up next season the writing could be on the wall.

Premiership Captain, a BullGod. We still need his experience in the backline, although he may not be as good as he was.

He's approaching the end and probably has, at most, two years left in him. Been a great leader for the club but we should make sure not to be gifting him games that he no longer has the form to deserve.

Looks very slim coming back into preseason, might help his injuries and agility in the latter part of his career

As is the case with players 30+, dropping weight can help prolong his career.
I'm not sure why he's declined so much - he's still above average as an athlete so I don't believe it's his body, even if he isn't as impressive in that area as he once was.
I tend to think Wood performs better with senior heads around him - ala Morris and Boyd in 2016 - and we also had Roberts/Hamling taking key talls.
If Lewis Young can step up, Wood's probably the one who benefits most but either way his role likely changes to guarding small forwards now.
