A few stats:
Age : 28
Height: 186cm
Weight: 85Kg
Games: 151

Predominantly playing as an inside midfielder early on in his career, Wallis has also excelled when given a number of run-with assignments. The father-son recruit was already a true professional the day he walked into the kennel, and when he faced some challenges in his young career, Wallis worked extremely hard to overcome them. So much so, Wallis has become one of the team's most important members, after successfully adjusting to a defensive midfield role, where he has claimed some of the games' biggest scalps.

Given Mitch's limitations, mainly leg speed, he has done very well in his 150 games. He is a very tough competitor and gives his all for the RWB. Many have said he was not best 22, but he proved again in 2020, that he is.

I think he should be vice captain as he has leadership qualities.

Thanks H60, Wallis reinvented himself in 2020 and as a result we got an effective forward who kicked 25 goals from his 18 games
I think this is now the position for him for the balance of his career and if he can keep the scoreboard ticking over he can maintain his spot in our best 22

Liked him one out at times, good year forward and has proven he can adapt.

Hoping another solid year from Wally.

Love Mitch. Selfless and a smart footballer.

Mitch is the category of more character than talent.
Can snag a goal, negate someone, mark and kick but not run quickly. Would Greg Williams do any good nowadays?
At the moment Mitch is our best bet as small forward but going forward, we will surely have better alternatives.

A bloke that does as much for us off the field as he does on it! An all around champion of a bloke with a good work ethic.

More importantly I think he finally found a role he could call his own - at least since the injury in 2016 when he dominated the inside mid role but he lost it now.

Decent overhead, good kick for goal, great competitor when the ball comes to ground 1 on 1. He has everything but speed to be a dynamic forward. I’m hoping he can kick 35+ goals this year!

Given how congested football can be, slow natural footballers still have a place in the game.

Came here to write exactly the same thing! Well put

Not doubting the integrity and leadership of Wallis, but in how many of the other 2020 top 8 sides' forward lines would he definitely get a gig in?

Wally is a very careful kick for goal. I love his intensity. He cares.

No brainer that one. Congrats to Mitch !

Edit : We've done away with leadership groups too. Personally I never saw the sense in them so ok with that.

Agreed - extended leadership groups are fluff beyond Captain/VC.

Well done to Mitch, good reward for him.

Well that's one way to remove Dunkley from the leadership group without creating controversy - just disband it!

Also agree about leadership groups. Outside the C & VC the natural leaders like Wood, Hunter, etc will lead on and off the field, regardless of meaningless titles.

Agree this is an outstanding result. Exactly who I wanted in that role - so glad he has the respect of his team members to be voted in. Great leader and character - seems like the type of bloke that will flourish with the extra responsibility

Can't help but feel Bevo is experiencing one of the seven deadly sins, namely envy, being that close to young Mitch's supreme form.

Wallis: I’m embracing the challenge (https://www.westernbulldogs.com.au/news/975086)

Vice-captain Mitch Wallis says he’s determined to fight for his spot in the Western Bulldogs line-up.

The 28-year-old was the Bulldogs’ leading goal-kicker in 2020 but found himself out of the side after round two this season.

He has returned to Luke Beveridge’s line-up over the past three weeks – as the medical sub against Geelong and West Coast, before kicking three goals as a late inclusion last week against North Melbourne.

Wallis has retained his place in the team for Sunday’s important clash against the Sydney Swans and hopes he can continue to help drive the Bulldogs forward in the run home.

“It has been challenging,” he told Channel 9 this week.

“My expectations of what I wanted to achieve this year (personally), I haven’t got anywhere near them.

“But I’m living in the moment. I’ve been given an opportunity and I’m in the team at the moment.

“I just want to fight tooth and nail to stay in there, because we’re building something special.”

Wallis has been rapt for the Bulldogs’ progress in 2021.

They will blood a sixth debutant this week – Jamarra Ugle-Hagan – and have called upon more players than any other club to this point in time.

“The team’s had so much success,” Wallis said.

“We’ve played 40 players this year and we’re first on the ladder.

“There’s so much young talent coming through. The depth of our club and our list is really impressive.”

The father-son Bulldog has again had to make some adjustments to his game.

Wallis did that successfully last year, reinventing himself as a forward.

But with Aaron Naughton and Josh Bruce both fit and firing, plus the addition of Stef Martin to complement Tim English, the Bulldogs have often opted for a taller team.

Wallis said honest conversations with senior coach Luke Beveridge had been important in helping him find his place.

“My role has changed a bit from last year, where I was playing a bit deeper and as a taller forward,” he said.

“The conversations over the last month or so have been ‘what do you want to see and what do you need to see for me to play’.

“I feel like I’ve been able to adapt over my career and I’m still adapting to try to be in our best team.

“I am at the moment and hopefully that can continue with some good form and to keep developing those roles Bevo sees that I can play.”

With seven rounds to go in the home-and-away season, Wallis is hoping he can keep contributing to a winning side.

He believes the Bulldogs are better prepared than ever to succeed week-to-week, based on the growth and maturity of the group.

“We have more of a DNA, we know who we are and how we play our best footy,” Wallis said.

“It’s clearer than it ever has been before.

“Even in saying that, when we go away from it, we all know and we all realise that.

“We’ve been really consistent about playing Bulldogs footy for most of the season. If we can maintain that up until the finals we’re going to give ourselves the best opportunity to be successful.”

I am not clear on what position Wally is playing now ?

Is it around the 50 m fwd arc and into the midfield when the play drifts there ?

It will be interesting to see where his game has evolved and position to play at. He has definitely worked on his goal kicking and his positioning in the last few games has been excellent

I really hope he becomes a midfielder, as he was a gun in his junior days . But his lack of speed probably at times may limit his time in the midfield.

Half-forward, with time in the midfield.

I feel he is and in-and-under forward, with a strength to use his hands to get out to a player in the clear. His hand pass to Dale who goaled last week is a perfect example of this.

Totally agree. When Wallis gets the ball it usually finishes up in the hands of a teammate. His possessions are worth more to the team than some other players can manage.
