I am sitting on flights and was supposed to be coming over with the whole crew for a long weekend. The fear of 14 days quarantining on return has freaked my wife out too much, so going to have to pull the pin. She has said I could come alone, but imagine if I got quarantined in the city for 14 days when I got back? The locks might be changed.

Hi BAD, I am AFL Club Support but didn’t log in until 10.30. Also tried specifically for Level 2 or 2A (single seat) and website came back and said none available although they were options I could choose(?), so just requested Best Available and got a seat in Level 2A after all. It certainly is surprising but I can only assume JJ is falling short of expectations in some areas and is being challenged to improve. He will be back.

If Vandermeer isn't fit that means someone else needs to come into the nominal 22 from the Melbourne game. Scott & McNeil were already in there. Bedendo and Khamis I am counting as outside the 22. Treloar in and Crozier out is the only certainty. At the moment West is in as well.

Not sure that's for his ability to manage our team defence though.

I think JJ is still a valuable player but the run he is noted for has been missing for a while now. He has never been all that good defensively not many of his tackles stick but his major asset is to clear the zone and that is not happening. It maybe due to him being sat on by the opposition and may be he hasn't worked out how to break free or the work rate isn't there to burn off his opponent.
JJ is another one of those 2016 players that hasn't got back to that level.

Yeah, I seriously doubt the likes of Jong, Duryea, Smith and Hayes are holding anything back on the training track given where each of their careers currently stand.
I was told early last year that Hayes and Greene came back in tremendous shape before the start of the year and were dominating at training so while I joke a bit about Bevo liking new toys I don't think it's an issue of some necessarily outworking others
I think we see a genuine skill set in both of the new boys and we are prepared to back them.
They've clearly done their work and have adapted to the professional sporting life quickly but the notion that they have really outworked others is something I'm not sure about.
Next year though might be a different story for them and it's all about them taking their chances on Friday night and that is exciting.

I'm speculating that Bevo sees the pace of O'Neil and the decision making and versatility with Scott as something he can work with
He will give them a decent go at it if we follow the Hayes experience.
I hope they give it a great go and really grasp their chances.

McNeil arrived at the club as a midfielder, although he may well find himself playing more forward for us. Scott played forward and midfield for Footscray I believe, which is why the potential move back is surprising.

A tad worried we have Vandermeer and Treloar with history of soft tissue injuries plus Duryea with his not great injury record with us all in 22 vs West who needs some senior games soon as I think he is our potential Libba successor. Positive is Vandermeer & Treloar both quick and Duryea adds a wise head to an inexperienced backline apart from Daniel.
Good to see Schache as emergency as reward for his good form in preseason. Would love to have seen Cavarra picked but good there is competition for spots.
Key to this match i reckon is how well our big blokes; Bruce, Naughts, English & Martin perform.

JJ has taken the piss for a few years on great coin. He's in the top handful in terms of impact and skill on his day, but he was in terrible shape last year and deserves a rocket. Hopefully this sends a message that getting a game isn't a given, and while he's making 600k+ a year, footy should be his priority, rather than fashion shoots and cool hairstyles.

It looked like the type of injuries the player goes to the room get a jab and some strapping and get back out there.
The AFL may say that this is player health and safety in that they don't go back out to further aggravate the injury.
I wonder if it's in the rule to swap the sub. In that if you have used the sub on a injury and then you get a player concussed does the injured player come back on with the Doctor writing a quick please explain certificate.

This is where the sub rule is crazy. If there's only one sub, what's really the point, as if you get a second injury or concussion, then you are short. If health and safety was really the focus, then there'd be no limit on the number of injured players that could be replaced. If they are genuinely injured, then they should be off.
Of course the new rule as it currently stands means the "genuine" aspect can be manipulated way too easily.

We have a number of players who can run off halfback though - Hunter can do it, Vandermeer can, and Treloar spent time at halfback in the VFL game.
If there is any position we can cover outside of the centre square it's halfback!
I think West is desperately unlucky. TBH I would have him in before JJ. In a pressure game every player needs to be able to defend.

Pathetic effort from our mids and forwards then to leave the entire corridor open to run.
Need to work harder and should have rolled up to cover the space.

Well some things never change. Double the inside 50s for a 2 goal lead. I’d hate to see the score if collingwood matched our inside 50 count

We've done a lot right, goalkicking still a big weakness. Should be 4 goals at least in front.
I am very pleased however with intent and pressure.

Agree, intent and pressure is pleasing, but I get sick to death of seeing us getting the ball consistently 20 metres from goal, and we can’t score. It’s fumble city, and we just can’t keep it in enough to generate a little space to run into open goal.

Without looking at the stats I feel we should have another goal, maybe two but on the balance of play and momentum I don't think there's a great deal in it.
I'm disappointed in Wallis and Naughton / our forwards ability to halve contests or win them. We still really lack a dangerous small forward, though Vanders has been great.
Big second half, need to put the foot down and test them.

I'm not comparing us to Richmond as a team, but they were belting Carlton in inside 50's yet only got them late on the scoreboard. They were also very profligate. I hate it too. I'd love to see a more quality based entry, but some teams seem to back a style that favours quantity of entries and then forward pressure to get more chances.

The inside fifty count is kind of misleading, I mean just because you're able to get it in there it doesn't mean it's easy to score, does it?
It's why I am so annoyed with English for missing a set shot there was no real excuse for spraying. In a game like this you have to take those chances, increase the lead, and force the opposition to try and open up the game.......making it easier for you to score.

At the game. Pies playing super defensive and getting plenty of players behind the ball. We have coughed some goals when they have created space from a turnover. It will be interesting if they can continue to defend and get numbers back as the game progresses. Going to be a fascinating second half.

Apart from his initial pass to set up I think Bruce for a goal, he's been really subdued. I really wanted to see him assert his presence.\
Smith has been brilliant. Hunter has done Hunter things, great gut running... combined with some iffy disposal

Smith close to BOG, Hunter started to get into it but need more from him. Treloar has been OK for his first game.
I wonder if we'll move Hunter into the midfield when others start to tire... Could be a difference maker.

Can someone explain to why, in every single game of ours, we have a crowded forward line yet the opposition has a paddock? Is this due more to our setup or the opposition knowing we always cough it up? It’s really frustrating seeing it over and over. I don’t see this in neutral games.
jeemak

Yeah it's Treloar's first hit out with the senior side, so he was always going to take a bit of time to adjust to us and we to him.
Smith is having a cracker, while Lach just needs to keep it simple and take first options.

We press hard and teams know they can stifle our forwards with congestion.
Not having a really clever small forward or two doesn't help as we don't put enough pressure on the defenders carrying or moving the ball out, and nobody kicks the goals from getting it on the boot quickly.
