4. Smith - most complete game he has played. He played the wing role perfectly, more kicking, less handballing.
3. Macrae - just a machine
2. Vandermeer - his bullocking work in close and ability to break open was very important
1. Williams - carrying on from last year, defended well and used his leg to great effect
2. Smith
1. Vander

I’ve gone back and edited votes to include Vandermeer over Lipinski. He was brutal with some of his bullocking in close.

My outlier is Martin compared to others. I gave him a vote because of how important to the structure he was, although we lost the hit outs Stef's presence and body work was outstanding and allowed English to be a dangerous forward outlet.
He also kicked the sealer.
Only took Bevo 5 years after the third man up rule!

WOW no love for Bailey Dale. I thought he was probably our best defender on the night.

Williams best defender for me - might be just because i love his side step and kicking. dale looked potent - might have found his home, would love to see him drift into the forward line and kick goals from 40 out on the run like the praccy match. Perhaps he is better suited there too as its more straight line running than creative play - he has such a nice kick, just lacks the dynamism IMO to make it as a mid forward - unless he is due a contract renewal

If Dale locks down the half back spot, could JJ potentially move forward?
He's a lovely kick for goal, has good closing speed / pace and is decent at ground level.
He's too good to not have in the side.

I thought Martin set the tone at the first bounce, and was relentless all night. His stats might not match others, but he was definitely more influential than some of our higher possession players.

Smith - sorry girls, he's taken.
Williams - most improved player in our side.
Duryea - No frills, no fuss, no mistakes.
Martin - gets a vote for making our team instantly better.

If he didnt play on a close checking defender I could see him having impact there. We've played him in the forward line before to relatively mixed effect. For me, JJ has never recaptured his 2016 form since the sydney game when they focussed on him and he had that patch of being targeted. He has some brilliant games but they are few and far between
