The more you objectively look at it, it's hard to see us winning a flag with this back half.

Weird to see criticism of Garcia when much more experienced players were twice as bad.

Thought he was a bit junky here and there with his decision making but seems to have a good balance between hardness and touch. That lowering of the eyes to hit up JJ showed he also has composure and it was at a critical time.

Only 5 games in I thought he made a solid contribution.

Got to love Cody had a quiet game, but still impacted when the game was in the line. His natural forward instincts and finishing is going to be very handy when the whips are cracking.

I thought Bailey Dale was one of the few that made things happen, Tim was solid in the ruck against no opponent and Keath was excellent again.

The Suns have been in good form and they cracked in all night. We were virtually two players down with Dunkley and Astro completely out of sorts coming back from long term injury and concussion respectively. But we won. I'll take it.

There were some bad signs down back. We were frequently outnumbered around the ball and, apart from Keath, looked very vulnerable in the air. Bailey Dale was very good and I was happy with Richards.

JUH was very good and I am so pleased for him. He's only a kid and the pressure that the media put on these kids, by manufacturing a "story" when none exists is reprehensible.

The sooner we get Stef Martin back the better. English had a real opportunity to dominate today and missed it. Too often he got his hand on the ball first but failed to hit to advantage. He did show that he can kick a goal when needed.

We were blessed to have Jacko particularly in the last five minutes. He was so calm and concise with the ball.

It so often said that good sides win when playing poorly. That was us for mine. A win is a win is a win.

Bont’s game was pretty crazy, he looked a little sore in the shoulder, early on he seemed just a fraction off the pace. To still have the influence and volume of work he had, just incredible.

Macrae’s two goals were very good. Great to see him bob up and have that direct, scoreboard influence.

Bontempelli Bailey Smith and Macrae with 100 possessions between them was the difference. The forward line was again patchy with Jamarra showing class and excitement. Using Bruce as the second string ruck man is a concern with Young being the preferred option. We are a better team with Liberatore in the midfield. I agree that Richards is a good inclusion to our defence whilst Duryea continues to play well.

Interesting that one coach gave Keath BOG and another gave him nothing.

All the bolded players are currently playing top footy which makes it interesting.

Touk Miller must be a big chance of taking some awards. He is carrying that team.

I was surprised how good he is. So well balanced and covers the ground exceptionally. Gets it a heap and uses it very well.

Yeah he's pretty good once you start paying attention, which isn't something I'd really done until the weekend just gone.

For those that like a punt Miller could worth a couple of bucks in the Brownlow most votes section. He can't win it because of a mister meaner but he should poll well in a poor team.

There was a bit of analysis of our defensive set up on AFL 360 tonight, showed examples of players such as Bazlenka and Hunter ball watching and allowing the opposition to find space too easily. Also highlighted how as a group we were like bees to honey rather than structuring up to stop the opponent from moving the ball from inside to outside the contest.

Apparently over the last month we're ranked dead last for opposition scores inside 50. That's a worry.

The bees to honey piece is something I feel has been an issue from Eade's day! It's wall punch inducing sometimes.

No surprise with that stat considering the way we have struggled the last 3 weeks.
Not going to win a final with that stat. Needs to improve dramatically.

What’s more of a worry is our defenders are not getting out marked 1 on 1 it’s the ball watching as Comrade pointed out.

It's been abundantly evident that work rate has been down since the WCE game where our defencive set up was excellent, and transition was made very difficult for them.

There was a slight improvement last week, though too many uncontested marks were afforded GCS as were contested marks.

Knackered, probably a bit surprised by how well Sydney played against us. From a post in another thread Sydney's been listed as the best ball mover in the competition and I think they genuinely caught us out.

I'd not be surprised to see a Cats v Swans GF, they were very impressive.

If the donuts at Fox Footy are able to recognise where it's falling down, you'd think our coaching group are all over it and we hopefully see a big improvement this week.

Ball watching combined with our defenders getting out-positioned or mistiming defensive efforts will not end well against Melbourne.

The last example was also a concern whereby 2 GC attacking players had dropped back into the square and the 2 nearest Bulldog players (Cordy & Richards) were some 15m away.

If the Sexton kick didn't go through for a goal either one of the GC would've marked the ball unopposed.

The last goal to King was also a complete *!*!*!*! up with Keath wandering around some 20m from King who marked pretty much unopposed against Dale... no idea how Keath ends up so far from his opponent in this situation.

Yeah, can't use the 'midfielders weren't doing their job' excuse on that one.

Yeah, can't use the 'midfielders weren't doing their job' excuse on that one.

It's all good and well for Fox to highlight our mids for being at fault, which is true, but lots of our defending over the past 3 weeks has been completely sub-standard.

Yeah, you could probably pick a dozen moments in that game where our defensive group lost touch and were out of position or made the wrong decision (too many going up, spoiling other defenders etc).

It looked like a group that had barely played together.

Hopefully we learn from this.

How deep we go into the finals relies on all sections of the ground playing their part and at present I have little faith our defenders will be able to stand tall when required.

Big task for our defensive coach to get the group playing as we need them to.
