So I’m still quite excited about the Bont goal against West Coke. He has given us so many good goals over the journey. I’ll n forget the one against Melbourne in his first year with two or three turns then a snap from deep in the pocket.

Then yesterday WOW how you can kick like that at full speed is unbelievable. Does anyone know how fast he was running while kicking that goal. Is GPS data available? Usually on the run at speed is coming straight out of the middle. You can settle but. Running directly at the boundary under pressure from West Coke backs and hitting it as flush as anyone was special.

Incredible goal, one of the best ever. Would be good to know how fast he was travelling. The players wear GPS devices so the club would know this.

The GPS data that we get to see on the afl website is fairly limited.

You get to see the top 5 players in distance traveled, and high speed and a few other bits and pieces like repeat sprints - but on the 'high speed' moments, it doesn't say specifically when it happened.

All we know from yesterday, is that Bont (14.9kms) and Hunter (14.0) covered the most ground for us. Brad Sheppard (33.1km/h) had the fastest recorded top speed in the game (JJ recorded 31.7km/h). Weightman (20), Scott (19) and Daniel (17) had our most sprint efforts (over 24km/h for more than 1 second), and Weightman (4) our most repeat sprints.

There's also some stats around average speed in attack or defence - but I don't think you get much from that because it seems very much linked to how the game is played (ie. which team attacks with speed).

We all know that Hunter is a freak athlete who just keeps running, but that is outrageous from Marcus. What an example he's setting with data like this.

His work-rate to kick ''that goal'' when he left the opposing captain in his wake was scintillating... he is as a complete a package that there is in the game. Just wish he was a little safer with the shots on goal from 20-25m, but nobody is perfect.

He clocked up 15.8kms v Geelong - and is covering between 13.5-16kms weekly. His running capacity has improved a lot during the last few years as you would expect given he has been building towards his prime. Some players (like Sam Walsh) come into the game with that running ability 'built in' - but Bont has worked his way up to it.

On a podcast recently Tom Boyd referred to Bont's (paraphrasing) "obsession to be the best in the game" and insane work ethic.

It makes me laugh when people speculate that "Bont seems to be carrying something...he's looking really sore".....no, he's just running as far as anyone in the game every week and working his ar$e off for the team.
