Key Finals Numbers You’ve Seen

An obvious one to kick off.

Both first half’s we’ve just stuck around and not been blown away by the ‘more fancied team’. Absorbed the pressure, not been overwhelmed by the pressure and against Essendon led by 3 points at half time, against Lions 1 point at half time.

After half time we’ve run the games out well. Turned it on hard late against Essendon, and in the arm wrestle last night covered the ground and still had plenty of run to do enough to chalk up the win. Our fitness is clearly good.


So my take on this, if we can get the game against Port Adelaide close to half time (at worst), we’ve got the will to fight, cover the ground well and provide run when the pressure turns up late. So if it’s close at half time, our players have the capacity to run out the second half well.

Certain player numbers needed?
Team stats needed?
Ratings? ie Pressure?
Player times in sections of the ground?

Do we move him more permanently forward this week and get Treloar onto the ball a little more, get him playing on instinct again? Would Smith at half forward make life harder for Port?

Our mids made up a lack of dominant KPF’s in 2016.
Our mids are doing it again in 2021. Spreading the goal kicking across our mids is already ahead of goals and two games early. Hopefully they can keep ticking it over.

There were a number of occasions where we could have really put some scoreboard pressure on had we delivered the ball better going onside 50 or chosen a better option.
Fix that up and maintain our intensity and Port will not cope.

English has been better in the ruck the last two weeks, but we haven't asked him to spend as much time there. It's like if he's the #1 ruck with 5 mins a quarter from Bruce he paces himself, but with Young 50/50 he attacks the contest harder

Young got toweled up though, can't afford that again against Port who killed us there in R23

Although that has been the trend so far (first half/second half) - personally I don't think we can rely on this vs Port this week. Port are a very fit/strong side - well rested with barely any injuries. Whereas we've had a wet weather game followed by a very intense semi that went down to the wire - and have quite a few injury concerns. I think it is pretty key for us to get a great start, try quieten the crowd and hold on for dear life!

They got 2 or 3 goals in a row from centre clearances, absolutely killer in a final. Young only played 50% game time and didn't ruck much at all after half time

In three cut throat final, we’ve conceded 21 Goals in total. Or an average of just 7 Goals. (Dees average 7.5)

Team defence in overdrive. Especially with Keath not playing last night.
