Crowds will be down, I bet as some won't be bothered.
I know this is a long shot, but if anyone has a 2022 members scarf they are willing to sell, I'd love to know. They were out of them when I purchased my membership.

Just to add to the fun the stadium refurb has meant that the rooms we usually use for our match day aren't available. All season!
We've been shuffled around into another room but it's gone from wing to behind the goals.
We only found out today which is interesting.
Fun times.
I realise I'm in a privileged position to be able to have this tier of membership but it's just more poor communication from the membership department.

They need a good rev up.
It does seem like they might of let go all the good people due to covid.
Thats probably unfair but they do need a bit of a review I think.
I'm a big fan of sitting on the wing so I'm pretty dissapointed and will feed that back.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is the AFL not communicating.

It seems fairly clear - if you have already paid for a reserved seat, there is no fee. If you haven't paid for a reserved seat, there is a booking fee (or you don't pay the fee and hope that there are seats available on the day, just like the pre-covid days of general admission).
I had an interesting discussion with some St Kilda members the other day, and their situation is very similar. I have also found AFL membership to be very confusing, and actually cancelled it in favour of expanding my Bulldogs membership. All clubs are clearly struggling to navigate the new and changing rules.

That would be part of it, but surely they'd have to let the clubs know the major function spaces would be out of action for the entire season before now?
Either way it is what it is. I'll stop whinging xD

Agree, but we don't know exactly when it was all decided by the AFL and when they communicated, or was it just slack internally due to as you say losing good people.
I know the Season launch seemed last minute, but the club had been chasing the covid protocols so they could organise things.

GG, The Sponsors have moved to the Top Dogs area which would be more FP wouldn't it? The Top Dogs have moved right behind goals to where the past players are normally located and they have moved down to level one.

Thats right yep. I was in there for a year prior. Not sure why we can’t sit in the same seats on the wing and be in a different room.

Just checked my digital membership and barcode has been downloaded for tonight. I am not going, but it is there if I want to.
Can anyone tell me why the game vs Richmond early in April doesn't appear via my membership?
It's weird. It goes 'Sydney, North Melbourne'...
But if I am coming to Melbourne between those two games I'm out of luck?
What does baffled mean??

Is it something to do with being at the MCG? Does the Melbourne game appear? I'm assuming you have an away membership as I don't see any of the away games in my normal membership.

Having read most of this I’m still confused.
I also find it hard to understand why in the account section of your membership, there is no information. I mentioned in another thread I am paying for 3 memberships at different levels eg not Ballarat for each one. This got lost/discontinued and took a lot of unravelling. I still, though, can’t find a simple statement of what I pay for so that I can check if it’s ended up right. Because of the mistake (totally from their end) there were back payment amounts and then the “regular” payments resumed and I guess I’d have to get back on the phone to them (please god no) to be sure. There is nothing in the “account information” or “account activity” sections.

Do you have anything in the invoice section.

It's weird. And i want to secure tix before i secure flights and....AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH.
Why did we have to fix a system that (to me) so clearly wasn't broken. This is supposed to be a fun part of my life!
To everyone who is saying it is clear what to do - I get what you are saying. The trouble is when you haven't paid a single second of attention over the past 2-years to anything ticketing related (aside from the GF last year) and now all of a sudden you are confronted by having to download an app you have never used, find a logon you didn't realise even existed and even THEN the one game you wanted to attend isn't there AND THEN you run into a 3-hour time difference and cannot get anyone on the phone.
Between floods and Ukraine this is the ultimate first world problem (poor baby can't book flights and seats at a footy game) BUT when you have one bye round in your own season and you want to get the hell out of a state you have been stuck in for WAYYYYYYY too long by a maniacal dictator well...it all seems like a lot.
Rant over.

Member Open Night (https://www.westernbulldogs.com.au/news/1074838?utm_source=sfmc&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=AFL_MEM_INFO_OTHER_+Open+Member+Night+080322&utm_term=http%3a%2f%2fwesternbulldogs.com.au%2fnews%2f107483 8&utm_id=26561&sfmc_id=16171790)
The Bulldogs will open the VU Whitten Oval doors next Thursday March 10 from 4pm – 7pm to welcome members and answer any queries heading into the new season.
Members will have the chance to get assistance with their digital membership cards, browse the new Bulldogs merchandise range and speak to our friendly staff.
The Bulldogs Shop and Barkers Café will be open for business and keep your eye out for some free Western Bulldogs giveaways too!
If you are unable to attend the Open Night, please see further information below to ensure you're as prepared as possible for the start of the new season.
Reserved Seat and General Admission Members will be able to scan into home games using their digital membership card via the Western Bulldogs app. This represents a change for members on these product types, who are no longer required to redeem a seat via Ticketmaster.
Members experiencing difficulty accessing their digital card are encouraged to view the step by step guide here for further assistance.
If you do not own a smart phone or cannot access the Western Bulldogs app, please contact Membership Services for alternate match day access arrangements
Digital cards for multiple membership accounts with one email address will appear on the primary account holder’s email. For example, if you have junior members with no separate email address, their digital cards will appear on the adult’s membership account and email they are linked to.
If you have the away games add-on product, you can scan in using your digital card on match day free of charge as general admission or go through relevant ticketing agencies to upgrade to a reserved seat (reserved seat fees apply).
You might be wondering why your general admission (Bronze) member comes up with seats on the Digital Card? This does not mean you have been allocated a specific seat More details can be found here.

My 73 year old father managed to load his digital membership into the app and he's precisely as technically savvy as you would expect a 73 year old to be.
I do understand the confusion though, hopefully initiatives like this can sort out as many members as possible before round 1/2.

The terms of the offer involve:
Members must go on a Committed Bulldog upfront payment plan which automatically renews on October 28, 2022 for the 2023 season. Members will be communicated with about their 2022 Committed Bulldog payment plan membership in September 2022 prior to payment being taken on October 28, 2022. Members are able to opt-out of the automatic rollover by contacting the Club via email membership@westernbulldogs.com.au or by calling 03 8899 7414 prior to October 28, 2022.
The club is obviously banking on a lot of those taking up the offer not opting out of the auto renewal and becoming full paying members from 2023 onwards.
It's an interesting strategy that has been successfully used by other clubs like St Kilda to boost their membership numbers and revenue in the following years. Hopefully it works for us.

I get the resentment of long term members. But I also see this as a legitimate attempt to grow the base with a special offer to potential new members.
Its no different to Banks who offer attractive 'special offer' deals to entice new clients. Or to streaming services who provide a special trial offer.
If we get a few thousand people take it up, and as a result a % of those go on to purchase full memberships next year, then that's great.
My main concern is that I hope the club ensures they focus on ensuring those who take it up have a great experience. Given we've had debate here around issues with membership packs not arriving, poor fan engagement, I'm not convinced we're going to necessarily capitalise long term from any boost this gives us beyond the initial offer this year.
Axe Man
11-03-2022, 03:56 PM
I understand the sentiment but at the end of the day what someone else pays for their membership does not affect me in any way.
The club is a business and this seems like a reasonable attempt to grow our membership so that our club is still around for many years to come.
I do agree with YHF that the club could do a better job of looking after its members at times though.

It probably does but I'm not sure they would represent a large portion of the membership base. If people are very price sensitive they probably know by now they can wait for an offer via the SEN membership days they have every year. I think it's worth the risk from a business point of view to try and lock them into an ongoing membership that takes effort to cancel.
That's just my layman's interpretation, I only did one uni subject on marketing so I'll trust that people with a tad more knowledge than I came up with this idea.

A special Netflix trial offer might last 30 days and the service gets cut off. In this scenario I’m getting the exact same product/service at a significant mark up for no additional benefit.
A friend of mine signed up to do a course recently. She paid full price, a month in advance of it starting. She then received an email from the course provider (they obviously don’t segment their email lists properly) advertising a ‘last minute’ offer of 50% off. She was rightly very pissed off and demanded a refund of the difference which she got.
This scenario is no different. A good business would offer discounts/lower price to those that sign up early or on a recurring basis, not reward those that hold out or need a bargain basement price to be tipped over the edge. Or at the very least, be given extra benefits to reward those that pay more.

You're probably right and it only bumped up the count by 1000 or so? However if you were to read a trend on social media (which I know is a cess pit) there's a pretty negative vibe surrounding it in most posts I have seen.
I'd prefer an incentive to get in early or loyalty rewards (maybe 10 percent for 10 years?). But - as you say and YHF say it isn't bad idea to get new people involved, and it doesn't affect my membership but I know some who do struggle with the cost each year and have been very loyal who get 0 reward in comparison.

The issue isn't about buying a membership, or whats in it for me; it's should people who hold out get an incredible deal over those that don't? We were talking half price.
My view is loyalty should be rewarded and that's certainly not mutually exclusive with caring about what you get or buying a membership to support the club.
I agree they're virtuous motivations and I'm in the same boat.
I gave my mum the difference so she thought she got the deal anyway after she found out. (she's very trusting ha)

I totally agree. Otherwise we’d demand refunds in bad years, or opt out in years like the past two seasons when we saw so little live footy.
That said, the club could do a lot better to reward and nurture those of us who keep patiently coughing up. Better and more real content - some social media stuff is inane, meanwhile opportunities for more interesting footage go begging. I was none too impressed about the club failing to renew my 3 Bulldog for Life memberships but even more so, how hard it was to rectify THEIR mistake, and the disinterested response. “This happened to a lot of people” was the offhand message I got.

There's been a few amateur hour moments this pre season.
Still no word on a Dale Morris replacement in terms of coteries and although the staff are great and helpful they're clearly under resourced as response times have dropped considerably.
Hopefully just some cobwebs post major covid interruptions.

Biggest thing I took from it was that with the stand rule and kick out rule coming in we’ve altered our defensive setups this season as compared to last.
75 percent of the playing group has had covid, but was happy with how we ran out the Lions game and that he will pick a side based on fitness.
Richards stand out over pre season.
Thinks weight of inside 50s in trial games was great and just need a tweak to convert them more effectively.
Jones, Naughton and English stayed in WA otherwise they wouldn’t have been able to go back for Xmas, said they were pros training away from club and returned in great shape. Labelled Arthur a firecracker and naturally fit/has good endurance.
Transparency in leadership program so there’s no secret as to how the decisions are made. Happy Macrae is going through the group.

Example of how bad it's become at the coterie level. We didn't get our paid for entitlement last season (signed framed photo). I usually wouldn't care however because it was Marra's first season I think it was a significant item.
Didn't happen last year. I asked for it again in Feb. This is from the 21st of Feb.
"In terms of your signed gift from Jamarra, these are currently being framed and we’ll be in touch in the coming weeks with arrangements for sponsors to collect these or have them distributed."
Haven't heard a word since, nor have we any photo.
I'm over hassling them, reduces me as a human so I won't anymore; but ffs is anyone monitoring how members are being dealt with? We are literally not getting what we paid for whilst the club banks profit.
Dare say it's my last year as a player sponsor.

Further update - apparently there aren't guest speakers before the game because TWO more people would've meant that player sponsors would've been locked out due to room size (it's probably the same if not bigger).
"Regarding the players and MC, with room capacity constraints in the Quill Room (not based on covid, just size), we wanted to monitor ticketing uptake for our initial home games to ensure that we could safely get all of our Players Sponsors back to the footy and we wouldn’t initially end up with a situation where we had guest speakers, but a significant number of Player Sponsors being denied entry into the room."
Two people, a player and an MC would've led to a SIGNIFICANT number of player sponsors missing out.

I wouldn't have thought so since it explicitly says the capacity constraints are not covid related.
Overall it sounds like a very disappointing effort by the club. Surely this area of the club is not affected by the soft cap and should be back to pre covid staff levels and performance expectations? Fair enough to have cut them some slack the past 2 seasons but it's not good enough now.

Amazingly round 2 wasn't an issue with room capacity and the dam walls breaking because a player would talk.
Every player sponsor would have expected a player to speak prior to that game. As they've done for every game for the last 5 years I have been there and many more I expect.
What a lame excuse.

Aza, most years I get sent 2 or 3 surveys from the club and I take the time to highlight opportunities to improve based on my on views and feedback I hear from others. I think there is also a box where you can tick that says would you accept a call based on your feedback and I can't say I've been called to clarify anything.
There was a coterie manager years back when I first joined called Michael who really worked with what was an emerging sponsors group. He was proactive, reasonable and flexible and if you were going interstate to watch a game he would lead you in the right direction. Then we had Chris who I also rated but over the last few years with the numbers growing to capacity I think there is a chance things have been taken for granted and it's now very much a take it or leave it approach.
This is not having a go as I don't have a bad word to say about any of them but it might be the price you pay when you have a group that is at or near it's capacity. It just doesn't suit now and I'll look for an alternative solution to get my footy fix.
They will not lose me as a paid up member though.

Anyway, I'm guessing we'll hear something from the club tomorrow about breaking the record.

I'm pretty certain they do and that the count is the number of memberships not persons who hold memberships. The AFL and the clubs are all keen on having the totals as big as possible.

There would be some experiencing lifestyle changes such as moving to Melbourne from overseas, interstate or the country or persons suddenly being able to or think they can afford to buy one by getting a job for instance. Five games adult access for $95 which is currently available is good value really.
Auskickers get complimentary memberships for their club of choice and the club no doubt hands out a few through its community programs. These would steadily increase the total for the next couple of months or so.

What would be interesting would be a complete table of all clubs’ memberships broken down by membership type. That would give a truer reflection. It’s not fair to compare a three match membership with a full membership and then even a pet membership. Memberships are in part so high because of the increase in membership categories.

But even that is difficult as those clubs with their own stadiums manage to package up higher returns per member. But you’re right in that it does better reflect the economic strength of clubs.

When you pay $300+ for an 11 game Docker Membership (just to get a seat), the numbers would also be skewed. I know the Eagles are the same (plus they have a waiting list that you pay annually to remain on). You would also have to look at Sydney, Adelaide and Port. Not sure about other interstate teams

If we beat Geelong we’ll get over 49,000.
Even though we got belted in a granny, just the fact that we played in one and the fact that we have been getting plenty of prime time games has been enough to get a couple thousand more members on board. Imagine if we won another flag or two. Would probably get to 60k in a short time if that happened.

Playing at the MCG and still getting more AFL Money than the Bullies at the Docklands, which is harder to generate a Profit from, as well as playing two games a year in Ballarat. (Don't get me wrong, playing in Ballarat is a great initiative from a Club that represents the West).
My point being, as Bulldgo4life implied, you can make the numbers/memberships what you want, especially when you are getting more handouts from the AFL with all the advantages of playing at the MCG. Hence the "tack-ons".
Pre-Season, the AFL justified the Bullies getting less for generating more of a Profit. Understand what they are saying but as a Club we can't budget for guaranteed blockbusters each year. Therefore the Revenue is more volatile and thus, stifling the Clubs ability to invest in the footy department to the same degree and hence, having more control of your destiny and success.

I don't believe we have had a few thousand new members sign up in the last couple of week. Also I personally count members as 1 person a member no matter how many memberships you have. While financially 1 rich bloke buying 50k of memberships is the same as 50 thousand individuals i know which would look better in the stands. Just all too convenient reaching the 50k as the deadline is about to hit. Call me cynical.

I wonder how inflated the final number is considering I was given a membership by the club when I did not pay for one.
I find it disappointing that we like every other club, play this game of trying to manufacture bigger numbers. The AFL are the biggest components of this by allowing it, so total membership is increasing so they can all line up for another bonus.
