For all discussion of Doggies memberships and also to post up the tally when that is known. I’m hoping for 50,000 members in 2022.

Funny story I had to contact the membership department today to update my credit card details.

Two minute wait it said…cool cool cool.

”Sons of the west..bada da da daaa” starts blaring invoking involuntary imaginary scarf waving…..

By the tenth rendition, waves of pain were crashing over me, those smug demons were encircling my every thought I was close to giving up on my loyalty streak !… then..

Hi Bulldogs membership how can we help ?

I had the option of a Beanie or a cap but I’m not sure if it’s related to my tier or not? Surely everyone can get a cap.

I'll be a member next year but need to work out if the player sponsors group and even going to the games is worth the investment.
I understand that Covid has been a huge hurdle in the last 2 years for the club but what really gripes me is that for a number of years prior to that they have been essentially closing access to the club down to the supporters.
For example training sessions are very hard to get to with the club having so many closed sessions.
The East meets West day is also gone. For someone who has been use to going to the club frequently during the off season this is a huge adjustment and the connection to the club is diminishing.

Noticed GA to the two Ballarat games was an add-on not complimentary next year for Player Sponsors.

Not a big deal, but considering we get two less games at Marvel and we’ve pretty much donated over the last two seasons it’s not hard to do little things like that to keep people engaged.

Especially when we are making a profit.

Don’t get me wrong love that we are, but we need to look after our people as well.

I think it’s important to feed how you feel back to the club GVG; Dale is pretty responsive even via text and it can only help them formulate a more inclusive experience using the data we provide.

I believe that will be able to get our same reserved seats back next year that we had prior to Covid assuming everything is back to normal in 2022. I think that you need to notify the club to update that into your account.

Dales great but he can't change the clubs attitude towards training sessions and club nights etc.

Has it gotten worse under Beveridge?

Has it gotten worse under Beveridge?

Substantially. The blinds in the cafe, the number of closed training sessions, the removal of the East West day and the access to club presentations and a number of other fan engagements opportunities have either been diminished or cancelled all together.

For a competition that does it's best to have something of interest for every month and to keep the AFL in the news except for the month of January as a club we have 'managed' the fan engagement to more or less snippets on the clubs website or what we read about in the media.
For many people, I guess 'switching on' in March and off in October is okay but for those of us who have traditionally been more invested the loss and removal of the engagement opportunities just distances us from the club.

Clearly Covid wouldn't have helped but if we look deeper then it's been trending that way well before that.

I agree since Beveridge has taken the helm a few things have started dropping away. I must admit it seems to go against what Beveridge stands for inclusion, embracing the fans etc.

It is the balancing act between chasing the ultimate and keeping fans engaged. I am sure there is a better balance that can be had.

Called the club up today and Lachlan helped me out updating everything in my account.

My silver reserve seat is back and I added the away add on as well continuing the social club for the guaranteed GF ticket if we make it.

Hoping 2022 is a very different year and that we are going to matches normally.

Has there been any word at all about the Social Club Christmas Party? I mean I know it must not be happening since I've heard nothing but at least there should have been some communication. Disappointing from the club and I hope they make up for it since restrictions should not prevent events taking place any more.

Broader AFL membership numbers are just plain terrible. How many 1 game memberships and giveaways are in these numbers???

This year it was revealed that memberships that have no minimum spend are counted by the AFL. A lot of clubs have reported totals and increases that are BS (eg GWS and Norf). You can tell from their financial statements that their revenue figures are hugely inconsistent with their totals and with other clubs.

Norf had about 200 less members than us this year but over $2m less membership revenue and free memberships were easily available on their website. GWS' membership revenue is tiny and totally inconsistent with their 30k total.

I'm interested in our total though as there has been overall consistency between this and revenue in recent years.

I wonder if there is more people on the automated payments now than there was 4 years earlier.
I'd love us to get to 50K as it would be a huge effort by the club and the supporters and despite some accounting differences on how some clubs measure the total number of members, 50K gives a great base to keep building from.
I don't like reading that only GC, Brisbane, North and GWS have less members than us.

Until all clubs have the same system of counting memberships there will never be a true membership ladder. $$$'s from memberships is the only indication.

So many 3 or 6 or 9 game memberships now. The 9 gamer for $145 saves you $98 compared to buying at the gate just with the admission benefits so not sure how much the club really makes on these. Think its all about media coverage and sponsorships and being able to count people as a number in what exposure they can offer sponsors

It's a Christmas special, with the normal price $205, so hopefully the club still makes a bit from the majority of GA members.

Clubs generally make most of their net revenue from reserved seating and high end or coterie memberships and packages rather than these low cost GA products.

The AFLW record has also helped the Club to its highest ever overall membership tally before Christmas, with more than 35,000 members already signed up for the 2022 season.

Memberships pack will be lodged for sending from our Melbourne Warehouse in early December with a priority to send our AFLW membership packs out first. We anticipate these packs should arrive late December.

AFL Membership packs are slightly delayed. They are in the process of being packed and shipped from our Melbourne warehouse. We expect these to hit mailboxes over the coming weeks. This current COVID outbreak is causing staff shortages both internally and with our suppliers.

AFL membership packs should arrive end of January.

You will need to make your member choice (cap, beanie, $20 shop voucher or donate) prior to membership packs being sent - you can let the membership department know via email at membership@westernbulldogs.com.au

You will receive communications once your membership pack is on its way.

If you are still waiting on your membership beyond your expected arrival date, please email us at membership@westernbulldogs.com.au or contact 1300 GO DOGS (46 36 47) and we will provide you with an update.

Got over 45K last year

In last year's membership thread, Axeman commented on 25 February that "An email from the CEO today puts the current membership figure at "almost 33,000" so we are still very ahead in comparison.

I get the uncertainty of Covid and early season form, but we should comfortably pass the 45k figure.

35-38,000 is about the true number of Bulldogs diehards out there that will always buy a membership regardless. We are in a time of uncertainty not only around whether we will get to go to games but also whether people want to risk going to places with large crowds.

We always gain about 10k members through the season anyway so the fact that we are doing this well in a pandemic that has hindered the club's ability to grow in terms of revenue and support is a massive plus.

It's such a shame that they cannot get the membership packs out before Christmas. I used to buy Young Scraggers his for one of his Christmas presents ... not anymore. By the way, Covid isn't the reason. It is cheaper for them to produce/package/mail en masse than it is to send when they membership is purchased. They have been doing it this way since 2018. I rang and asked why we hadn't received the package 2 months after we renewed ... that's what I was told. Most clubs do it this way now.

The cost of my kids membership packs are a cost of doing business that I am happy to pay (ie making sure they are Bulldogs supporters). They arrived today, a month out from round 1, so I am fine with the current process.

Something to note; as per other sports like the A League your plastic card is not used for entry.

I'm actually surprised we still got one.

I have my A League membership in my Google Wallet (Android Phone), iPhone users have the same in their Apple wallet and you simply scan this at the gate.

Looks like Dogs will use the Bulldogs App, but I'm sure you'll be able to add to wallets too.

From membership email :

You may have noticed that your 2022 membership card does not include either your membership barcode or Reserved Seat details (AFL Reserve Seat product holders only) and we acknowledge that this has caused some confusion relating to match day access arrangements.

Your membership card acts as an important identifier of Club membership and is a great way for members to show their loyalty and support at all home games. It does not, however, enable access to the game itself and in the way membership cards were used prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Clubs will be required to deliver a digital scan-in approach for home games in season 2022, meaning that all Western Bulldogs reserved seat and general admission (Bronze) members will require a digital barcode to access games. This digital membership card will be available via the Western Bulldogs app on your smart phone device prior to each home game and can be used to enable your walk-up entry.

Got this email from the club yesterday:

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to the Western Bulldogs as a member in season 2022. Your contribution to the Club remains critical to our success as we embark on an exciting period of growth, both on and off the field.

We can't wait to welcome you back to the football and to once again hear your voice in the stands.

Today we're excited to launch our 2022 membership campaign with our sights firmly set on breaking our AFL membership record and pushing beyond 50,000 members for the first time.

We would love for you to share the campaign video to help encourage all Bulldogs fans far and wide to become part of our special Club.

In the meantime, we know many of you have questions about your access arrangements for the 2022 season. We hope the information below helps answer some of these and in preparation for our first home game against Carlton at Marvel Stadium in Round 2.

Membership Packs

Our 2022 Membership Packs have started to hit mailboxes around the country and we’re loving seeing the many pics being posted to social media. If you are yet to receive your pack, it should be arriving in the coming days. If you selected a Bulldogs Shop voucher option this season instead of a member cap, beanie or scarf, these voucher codes will be sent to your email inbox over the next couple of days.

AFLW members should have already received their packs and we encourage you to contact our Membership Services team if this is not the case.

Membership Cards

We will communicate more information prior to our first home game against Carlton in Round 2, including detailed instructions on how to access your digital membership card via the app.

Pay as You Go (PAYG) Membership Products

Gold (Level 2) and Silver (Level 1) 3, 6 or 9 game members on our Pay as You Go model will be able to redeem their match ticket via the Ticketmaster website as part of the member exclusive on-sale process. The same $10 Adult and $5 Junior stadium fees will apply to these ticket redemptions.

We are also excited to announce that guest passes will again be available to purchase across all PAYG product types.

General admission members will also have the opportunity to reserve a specific seat on Level 3 and purchase guest passes as an alternative option to the digital scan-in process outlined above.

Exclusive Member Content

We know how much you value exclusive content and insight, and we’re committed to delivering even more to you in season 2022. Where possible, we will always ensure important news and information reaches our members first, just like the 2022 leadership group announcement that we shared over SMS last week.

Our weekly in-season ‘Bevo’s Brief’ email will also return, and we’re excited to be introducing regular member forums and Q&A sessions with key club figures to help provide a deeper insight into key activities happening around the Club.

Further Information

If you are missing something in your membership pack, yet to make a member choice selection or have further questions, please contact the Club on 1300 46 36 47 (GO DOGS) or email membership@westernbulldogs.com.au.

My a league club digital membership card is a QR code.

It works fine at the AAMI turnstiles. Only issue I've found is positioning your phone under the stationary reader so it hits the right part of your phone and ensuring your brightness is up.

I was with my elderly mum and her sister yesterday who are 50 plus year members and both were really put off when I told them the situation.

So we don't have the same seats anymore? I went through the app and it's putting my 8yr old son 2 sections over in different seats. I hope I'm doing this wrong because if this is what we have to put up with I'm cancelling now.

I wouldn't mind seating my kids 2 sections over at times.

I've had my young kids seated by themselves on flights, I laugh and the airline fixes it.

Surely it's something that can be sorted out, there's bound to be some teething problems with the new system.

Perhaps give the club a chance to fix it before you microwave your membership.

I'm going back through old emails and it says you need to fill out some form to renew your seat. I can't even remember if I did? I've been so busy I've possibly overlooked, I do remember speaking to someone at some stage and they did say that it was all the same. It's just another obstacle on top of another day in day out. I'm fed up with it all. :(

My recollection is there was a date by which you had to contact the club to get your exact old seats. I only know this because I look after my mum's affairs.
I wouldn't panic though, I'm sure they'll be able to sort you out with seats close to where you previously were.

To be fair it was pretty funny.

I would be surprised if you can't get your seats back or close too. Despite all the who haa about our membership numbers when you remove the aflw numbers we are pretty much same as last year. There has certainly not been any big rush of new members to sign up even after playing off in GF.

I just signed in and pressed for tickets for next Friday night. It automatically allocated me 3 tickets , 1 adult and 2 junior (I didn’t necessarily need the kids tickets) in 3 very seperate sections of the ground. I’m assuming it’s just allocating random seats as it’s GA, but I can see it leading to confusion if that’s the process.

So the outcome was that I lost my seats. They were taken up and the guy on the phone was so quick to point out it was my fault, I should have followed this up by Dec 10 and I'd been reminded numerous times. They managed to get me in the same Aisle, 2 rows closer. Still not pleased, I found the original email which was an oversite on my behalf, I'll take that but the numerous follow ups are nowhere to be seen and I guarantee you were not sent. I'm disappointed, my Membership won't be nuked but I certainly won't be as generous as I have been in years gone by. Our Membership department have completely lost their human touch which always made me feel wanted.

I'd like to thank those who tried to help calm me down on Friday. I've had an awful few weeks and this, while may seem small to others and really it is, was like the straw that broke the camels back and left me in a very dark place.

A little birdie told me there will be a solution in place for those without smart phones by rd 2.

No idea what it is.

Considering we just launched our 3 yr inclusion program it does seem odd to exclude those without smart phones, especially when many of them are elderly (a fair portion).

Watch this space I guess. Not sure why they did a hard cut over and didn't phase it in over a few years.

If the QR code is static, like it is for my A Leagues membership it should have been an option in your membership to have a plastic card with it on.

It's not rocket science right?

If you go on Ticketmaster to get your GA tickets for the Carlton home game it does not give you the option of getting a ticket at $0.00 but it asks you to upgrade at a minimum of $10 per ticket. I stand so just want the GA ticket. Last year when you used your barcode to get GA tickets it had the option of $0.00. It is not there this year even though on the Membership site it says it is. For GA you don't need to do anything in advance I don't believe. Just scan your digital membership card (in the app) at the gate.

From the club email:

General Admission members will be able to scan into Marvel Stadium using their digital membership card. Unlike 2021, members won’t be required to redeem a seat via Ticketmaster for home games and therefore do not need to participate in the Rounds 1-5 member on sale from Tuesday 1 March. If you do wish to upgrade from general admission to a reserved seat, you will need to do so via the Ticketmaster and using your member barcode.

I've actually just seen some verification elsewhere that Silver and Gold members have to pay a $10 stadium fee per home game.

This seems absolutely insane to me, was the membership cheaper due to this? Was it communicated before people purchased their memberships?

Crazy.

Edit : Apparently this is for stadium cleaning. It gets stupider. I don't blame the club this seems to be an AFL mandate. This is from direct comms with the membership department. I really hope this is all a mistake and not true!

If you select the ticketmaster account by mistake you will need to purchase tickets etc.

What is a Silver 9 membership?

Updated

In 2020 the Silver 9 membership had been introduced to navigate through the possibility of reduced stadium capacities, social distancing and contact tracing restrictions being in place.

- Members will have access to our 9 home games at Marvel Stadium in 2022
- Silver 9 members will have first priority to guarantee tickets on level 1
- Members will have the option to secure a seat by paying an upgrade fee of $10 adult or $5 for a junior
- Members will be able to book with other Silver 9 members by using their barcodes during the ticket purchase process
- Silver members will also be able to purchase guest passes for friends and family depending on the demand for tickets for the particular game they are looking to attend
- Members will be able to redeem level 1 tickets from the Western Bulldogs level 1 member allocation (between aisle 16 and 41)

Received this last week

Dear Michael

As the 2022 Toyota AFL Premiership Season fast approaches, we can’t wait to welcome you back to the footy and into your beloved Reserved Seat at Marvel Stadium.

Ahead of our first home game on Thursday 24 March against Carlton, we wanted to provide you with detailed information regarding your match day access.

Reserved seat members will be able to scan into Marvel Stadium using their digital membership card. Unlike 2021, reserved seat members won’t be required to redeem a seat via Ticketmaster for home games and therefore do not need to participate in the Rounds 1-5 member on sale from Tuesday 1 March.

Your digital membership card is located in the Western Bulldogs Mobile app, and you can click here for a step-by-step guide on how to set this up. On your digital membership card are details of your reserved seat location, along with anyone else connected to your account.

Members should be able to see all home games within the app ahead of time, with the barcode appearing on the ticket within 72 hours of the respective match start time. You can then add these tickets to your Wallet on your smart phone, to make for easier access and a smooth entrance into Marvel Stadium.

Members will not be able to scan into Marvel Stadium using the traditional plastic card. These cards have been issued as keepsakes, with all stadiums moving to digital ticketing and scan-in for the upcoming season.

Members with away game entitlements will have access to these games by scanning into the MCG or Marvel Stadium on the match day, using your digital membership card in the Western Bulldogs app. If you wish to upgrade from general admission to a reserved seat, you will need to do so via the ticketing agent and using your away member barcode, which will be sent to eligible members via SMS on Monday 28 February. Upgrades for Rd 1 v Melbourne at the MCG will be available via Ticketek on Tuesday 1 March at 2pm, with General Public tickets available from Wednesday 2 March at 10am.

We understand and acknowledge that not all members own a smart phone device and will be concerned about how to access the Club's home games at Marvel Stadium. If you are a member who requires additional support, or if you are experiencing difficulties accessing your digital membership, please don’t hesitate to contact our membership team at membership@westernbulldogs.com.au or on 1300 46 36 47. Our membership team will also be on hand at all home & away matches in Melbourne to provide support & assistance.

Gold and Silver seating are subject to capacity on level 2 and 1 respectively. Members will be required to redeem a ticket during their designated priority window as a cost of $10^ per adult and $5^ per junior. Tickets will likely go on-sale the week of each home game with members being communicated on the booking process.
*Access to seats, in each tier of membership, is general admission and is subject to capacity. Based on current advice, it is expected that games in 2022 will be fully ticketed with members required to pre-book a seat for each match they wish to attend.

Dependent on your membership tier, a booking fee per seat will be applied (unless you have opted in for your reserved seat). These booking fees were previously included within the cost of memberships. To create greater value and flexibility they have been removed, such that you only pay this amount for only the matches you choose to attend.

Tickets for the Western Bulldogs’ first five rounds of the 2022 Toyota AFL Premiership Season will officially go on sale today for members and fans.

Unlike 2021, reserved seat & general admission members won’t be required to redeem a seat via Ticketmaster for home games and therefore do not need to participate in the Rounds 1-5 member on sale from Tuesday 1 March. Members will be able to scan into Marvel Stadium using their digital membership card.

General Admission members can enter their member barcode online and upgrade to a reserved seat if they wish. These members will receive priority access before the public on-sale.

Pay as You Go (PAYG) members, can redeem tickets for both Rounds 2 & 3 in the home club member on sale window from Tuesday 1 March at 11am using their membership barcode.

Membership barcodes were sent to members who hold this product on Friday 25 February via e-mail and will be sent again via SMS on Tuesday 29 March.

Tickets will go on sale to the public on Wednesday 2 March at 10am.

Access to Away Games Melbourne & Round 5 v North

Members with away game entitlements will have access to these games by scanning into the MCG or Marvel Stadium on the match day, using their digital membership card in the Western Bulldogs app.

My best guess is the website has not been updated, which is causing the contradictory information. I would think the recent emails from the club would take precedence.

I found this example still on the website that I am sure is incorrect since walk up general admin access to games has been confirmed:

Unfortunate for sure. Would cut down their service desk tickets by a fair bit if they had a decent faq and removed artefacts.

They might be able to answer the phone then and not hang up on you ! (After 35 renditions of Sons of the West).

It sure is hard to get to the footy these days!

That said, sounds like most of us have worked out what we have to do.

Ok - I went to the top and reached out to the Coterie Manager.

------

In terms of the reserved seat upgrade fee, that’s correct, the member is charged $10 per game they wish to attend.

The reason for this is that the base product has actually come down significantly in price, meaning you only pay over and above this for the games you wish to attend.

This means that you save money and only pay relevant to the games you go to.

Hopefully that makes sense, but please let me know if you’ve got any further questions or if I can provide more clarity on the process.

Based on the email, I can't see that is true?

Reserved seat members will be able to scan into Marvel Stadium using their digital membership card. Unlike 2021, reserved seat members won’t be required to redeem a seat via Ticketmaster for home games and therefore do not need to participate in the Rounds 1-5 member on sale from Tuesday 1 March.

How do you pay the $10?

If your membership was cheaper, the club would lose a ton of cash if people don't pay I guess.

My head hurts to be honest, I've gone back for more clarity and cited the information you refer to.

Imagine an octogenarian trying to work this out ! xD

Well I have my tickets for the away games, ie Melbourne, Richmond and North on good friday, using my AFL membership, and guess what I had to pay $9.90 plus handling fee. Last year I didn't pay, just booked.

We will see what happens with the home games when I front up with a digital card

There was 2 parts to membership. The gold/silver membership and then the gold/silver reserved seat add on if you didnt pay for that extra bit then you will need to pay for the seat upgrade per match. ( i think)

Ding ding ding we have a winner. What does he win GvG? xD

It depends on how your membership is structured as the Snakeman said.
-------

Reserved seat members who elected to “opt back in” to the reserved seat they used to hold will be able to simply scan their digital pass to access games, however those that have continued with the product that was introduced last year, still have to pay as they go which is covered in the below paragraph.

'Pay as you go (PAYG) members can redeem tickets for both Rounds 2 & 3 in the home club membership on sale window from Tuesday March 1 at 11am using their membership barcode'

-------

Over and out.
