I reckon this is about as big a danger game as we will face. Essendon should have won the ANZAC Day clash. Pies don't kick straight or the Bombers kick straighter its a different story. They also match up well on us.

I'd be surprised if we don't respond to some degree, but in simple terms I see us being the hunted as opposed the hunter. Historically we suck at being the hunted.
I just don't see where we get enough score from... Then again, they're hardly any better.

For mine, Dunkley goes to Parish this week and shows the Bombers what they missed out on.
Weightman to play at the top of the square, ready for whatever free kicks come straight in front of goal.
Need a plan to stifle Draper. He is their most influential player. Is it something special for Zaine?

Use his knee for the good of the team and take out Draper that way because that's about the only way he'll be able to tackle Draper's athleticism.

I think our best bet with Draper is to not have anyone go anywhere near him. That way no one can get hurt by him “clumsily” throwing knees or round arms in tight, and he will hopefully get more of the ball this way too.

I’m worried that if we bring the same level of “defence” to stoppages as we did last week that Essendon’s one way midfield will only have to ever run that one way.
Martin in the ruck has me so mad that I fell asleep looking at hitout totals from the WAFL last night.

I was very happy with the 2nd half. The last 5 minutes was a let down but overall they controlled the Bombres and they could barely get the ball past the centre square. Pressure was intense, they were looking over their shoulder every possession, that was terrific. We kicked a very accurate score as well, YES!!! I was thinking the repeat entries over and over but no scoring, we got them on the board though. It was against a team with 1 win on the board though, you can only beat who's in front of you but I'm not getting overly excited yet. Great win against those scumbags!

Was not able to watch all the game. I saw a few things I liked and a few I didn't. We won against a desperate team who performed pretty well in their last outing against the Pies.
I liked the defenders particularly Richards, Daniel and Dale. Williams was much better this game and Gardner and Tim O'Brien chipped in.
I didn't like our delivery into the forward line at all. Just bombing it in again and again. And when there was a leading forward we over kicked it and gave the defender as easy spoil. I liked that we kicked straight for once. I saw a few occasions where players were reluctant to snap for goal but hand passed instead - for no result or even a turnover. Our forward pressure was really good with Weightman outstanding in this part of the game. McNeil had his best game and goaled from being awarded a free kick for an excellent tackle. Naughton was well held. His normally vice like hands let him down a couple of times but he never stopped trying and gifted a goal to Weightman.
I thought Dunkley was terrific. He tackled superbly. His set shot for goal in the last was very ordinary. He needs a goal kicking coach.
Bont showed a welcome return to form and used his explosive power to good effect.
Overall, I was happy with the win and thre spread of contributors.
I liked the way the midfield performed especially as we were well beaten in the ruck. Treloar was terrific and covered a lot of ground. Libba was under every pack. He is very competitive. He applied a lot of pressure when they had the ball
I thought our effort was really good. We need to keep the momentum flowing

Yes, looking back it is a bit harsh to say "well beaten". I'll take a look at the replay and pay attention to the ruck contests. We probably halved quite a few of them. They certainly didn't get a lot of clean take aways from stoppages.

Martin’s lack of height sees him nullify taller ruck men with strength rather than win decisive hit outs. We had excellent midfielders today in Libba Macrae Treloar Bailey Smith and Dunkley which was a big factor in the comfortable win.

100%. He did some nice Bont things today that no one else can do, especially when he went into the centre and got some crazy good clean clearances. He had five centre bounce clearances. Gee whiz we have been missing that.
But still playing really sore. Bag of ice on the ankle after the game and said to Tom Browne that he is still playing with some pain. Bont last year was like cheat mode with some of the influences he was having on games.

Treloar looked like he has some speed back in his legs today, he has been solid this year but today he was able to break the lines and use it well.
Generally our pressure was excellent( Dunks lead the way), but lets be honest the Bombers are bad, really bad. What the hell is their game plan? They still don't play team defence, I can't believe it.
Really liked Richards game, we need more of this from him while Dale has quietly become one of our best players.
Overall we have a long way to go, we still have a number of VFL players playing roles( can someone explain how VDM is best 22?), we just need to scrap a few more wins in a row and gain some momentum while English and Keath come back in.
Anyone know what's wrong with Naughty? Definitely NQR while the Bont under duress showed glimpses today but still is well off his best form.

Did anyone else feel like today was the first time we've seen "the real" Bont?
It was so reassuring to see him cruising around again.
It was a very good game compared to earlier in the season. He is someone who can turn a match.

Yes, looking back it is a bit harsh to say "well beaten". I'll take a look at the replay and pay attention to the ruck contests. We probably halved quite a few of them. They certainly didn't get a lot of clean take aways from stoppages.
I took another look at the entire game and we did a lot better than I initially thought. When Cordy was asked to step up he more than held his own and our midfield were all over them like a cheap suit.
I really liked the games of our small forwards. Easily McNeil's best game to date. He kicked goals and applied a lot of pressure. Likewise, Cody was manic and it was nice to see him give Bomber supporters something to go on with as I suspect he copped a fair bit of abuse from them during the match
Our midfield group had its best game collectively for the year and Bont moved a lot better this week. Libba was constantly at the coal face, Treloar and Smith covered mure ground than Ludwig Leichhardt, Dunkley was a very strong and menacing presence and Jacko was his typical reliable self running all day, getting back, linking up and driving the ball forward.

Great reading because it is like mine:)
Cordy Is a professional in that he applies himself as best he can. Loves a goal, imposes his presence. Can ruck. Bulldog legend.
McNiel from the first time I saw him seems like he runs hard and creates opportunity with his reading of play.
At least when we are creating play. I have not noticed his defensive side.

Thanks for this. I now know what Cordy was doing in his 5 games this year. He’s had 37 disposals and 15 hitouts. That’s an average of 7 disposals and 3 hitouts per game. Maybe he should get more of both instead of those other things.
Seriously, he has been very poor and I don’t know how he stayed in the team after his 3 disposals in round one.

Traveling for work, just managed to watch the first half.
Knowing how the second half goes I can see exactly why it went the way it did. Our full ground pressure was excellent from the start, and our skills until the last mile were as well.
The entries forward weren't bad, though we didn't let our key forwards get a clean run at it to the extent they should have.

It's also OK to admit that while he was a touch interfered with after a second grab Naughton should have been more solid in his marking.

I thought our forays forward in the first half were driven by the half back line in Dale, Richards and Daniel.
In the second half our midfield got on top and our forward connection was so much better and we eventually hit the scoreboard.

Heard Bevo say after the game Naughty was quite sore during and after the game but hopefully will get up for the Port game. The 5 days between games not ideal.

Ever seen the We are Essington account on YouTube? It’s hilarious. He/she splices footage of all the woeful mistakes in each game with quotes of what they claim to stand for, and music. A recent one cut between the captain my captain scene in Dead Poets Siciety, and vision of Heppell. It is cruel but undeniably funny for those who suffered through Essendon’s domination years. When supposedly your best distributor by foot has 36 touches, but only 25% of these are kicks you have to wonder what the *!*!*!*! is going on.
I thought we defended Merrett really well and didn't allow him the space he requires to hurt you with his kicking skills... which I feel are over-rated anyway.

I don't know why we get so stuck on possession count. A midfielder should be getting plenty of it, it would be more surprising if they didn't.
Bont's 20 would be twice as valuable as Parish or Mitchell's 40.

I didn’t think they got punished enough for the saga but I see a real connection between their current plight and what happened..and why it ever happened in the first place. Their arrogance plus their inability to accept that any rules applied to them are still on display with their continued emphasis on quick fixes. And I reckon it’s irretrievably damaged their culture. How can you as a player seek to give your all to a club that was prepared to mount an experimental not to mention illegal drug regime? Their players are the most passionless and robotic in the comp and their much trumpeted acquisitions inevitably go backwards. The fans were complicit in their deluded defence - the same fans who are now threatening to never go to a game again in protest at the clubs weak efforts were the ones loudly “donning the sash” and seeing only afl conspiracy instead of calling for real change and real humility from their club.
In fact the club’s core is rotten. I’ll never forget the club itself placing Stand By Hird signs on seats for the golden boy who brought their club into such disgrace.
So yeah… every win against this mob should be savoured, I was only disappointed that when we were 50 points up we didn’t turn the screws even harder.

If you watch them, it's not even the fact that they handball more than they kick - it's more that the handballs are often backwards to a player under just as much pressure as they are.
The "We Are Essington" ANZAC Day video on you-tube shows it perfectly.
Imagine 2016 - Essendon's midfield are the guys that failed handball club.

Any time you weave bourgeois into a sentence is also quite an achievement SOS!
I'm heavily into history and Ian Kershaw is one of my favourite historians specifically around 20th century Germany.
One of his beliefs is the holocaust was allowed to occur on the back of an indifferent bourgeoisie in Germany at the time.
"Auschwitz was built with hate but paved with indifference"
It takes leadership and courage to create change and speak out.
(disclaimer not relating dons to holocaust rather human behaviour in general)
