Noticed in another thread that Mantis was in a Super Box to watch the game yesterday.

I've never been in one, but don't really feel like I have missed something either.

Have you watched a game from the confines of a Super Box? How did you get access? What did you think of it?

I was in one for the Essendon MCG game in 97.
Its great to have a free drink and food but its sterile and non passionate as they come.
No one inside is really interested in the game.

I have been a number of times with both Footy and Cricket and you have to remember that the people inviting you there want to have your attention. Unless it's a spare ticket via a friend, most are trying to pick your brain or are trying to gain a better deal somewhere down the track.

To combat this I normally get there early, park myself up the front near the window and other than saying hello to everyone put the headphones on and concentrate on the game. At the meal I will talk until the footy starts again.

PP was always a good one to go to as you could slide the windows open.

I have been probably 8 or 10 times over the past couple of years. A mate owns one and he is a mad keen Dogs fan so I get an invite to quite a few games each yaer.

I don't worry about socialising that much during the game, only in the breaks. He normally has a few kids in the box so I try to re-frain myself from 'going off'. Although I gave Lake a fair spray when he tried to outmark Burton from behind instead of punching which resulted in a goal.

Interestingly enough all the young Bulldog players where in a box just down from our's yesterday. And no they weren't getting stuck into the grog.

My idea of a superbox is the one you used to stand on at the western oval to see over the crowd, if it lasted all through the reserves and seniors it was a super box!
Seriously, nothing like sitting with the crowd and getting involved.

Was in a box for the Essendon game last year. The Dogs Bollocks arranged for a group to bid in a blind auction held by the past players as a fundraiser. Had a great night with all but one Doggies fans. Need to have the window open to let the atmosphere in or else it is very sterile and doesn't feel much different to watching the game in front of the TV. The compulsory first goal, quarter by quarter margins. Reasonable food and the drinks make for a great night, occasionally.

I've been invited to a superbox a couple of times - both times were underwhelming. The worst was at the SCG about 15 years ago. The Swannies were playing Essendon. Nobody was interested in the footy at all - a couple of blokes were watching the NRL at the back of the box on tv. A big yawn fest to be honest.

Fortunate to have been about a dozen times over the years.

Great experience, but as they are generally business related, plenty to drink (need a chaffeur or the car stays at home), the food is generally 'up market', but lacks the crowd atmosphere - an open window does help to some extent.

Worth the experience, but would honestly prefer to be in the crowd with family and friends, enjoying a hot coke and cold pie.

I was in one at a game last year at Telstradome. The fact I cant remember which game describes how memorable it was.

he best thing is we were right over the coaches box and I could see the timeclock winding down. But Rocket thumped the desk and it fell off and when they put it back I couldnt see it anymore. I briefly thought about yelling down and asking to put it where I could see it but decided that it wasnt the right time.

Been in one once, Dogs v Pies 2000 in between the Carlton and Essendon games - atmosphere inside wasn't great as everyone has noted but the lack of dogs fans meant I won the quiz and so a couple of bottles of wine (the Q was: who the player who debuted in 89 with 8 goals). And then from the 2nd Quarter onwards we got given great seats on level 2 so it was worth it. Was right behind the goals when Hudson sealed the game with a cracker from out near the boundary.

I have been in the super boxes on quite a few occassions, but the one I enjoyed most against the Lions in 2005 (I think - when Robbins took the specky).

My mate won the box on 3AW, so it wasn't a corporate event, just a bunch of bulldog loving mates. The box was right behind the goals, at the end where we kicked about 20 goals in the 2nd and 4th quarters, and Robbins took the mark. I can assure you there were plenty of Crownies drunk that ngiht.

Reminds me of the same year in the spicer box for that infamous game against Adelaide
on Prelim final day I stopped drinking free grog at half time.

That was Geoff, stood between the two stands at Whitten Oval he even placed the emties back to maintain an even surface which he really needed if it was close in the last quarter as he would go troppo.

I sat in one at a Preliminary Final at the MCG (can't remember which year it was now) between West Coast and I can't even remember the other team - that's how exciting it must have been. Personally, I prefer not to sit in a super box and if the opportunity arose for me to sit in one at a Bulldogs game I would gladly pass up the opportunity. I prefer to sit amongst the crowd and yell my head off! The super box didn't have the same atmosphere but then again perhaps my experience could have had something to do with the game not being a Bulldogs match?

A couple of times a year we sit in the Super Boxes work related tho, otherwise mainly sit in the sponsors area home games.

I saw a blue in a superbox when we were at Princes Park.

One bloke had hold of the other guy by the tie and was belting the bejesus out of him. We watched it all up close through the glass without any chance of copping a stray punch.

The game was Tigers v Western Bulldogs, I think back in 1995. We lost and I was on my best behaviour, politely clapping as Leon Cameron's long bomb dropped short and was marked on the line just prior to the final siren to give the Tigers a win!

2nd time was the 1997 first final against the Swans. This time I was a client of my previous firm. Was a little more relaxed as I'd come at the invite of my ex-boss who was a mad keen Swans supporter. Out big opening quarter pretty much killed the game but meant I could sit back and enojoy the day!

Last week I ended up at a corporate hospitality event at Tottenham Hotspurs v Chelsea. Was awesome. The day begn with some obligatory drinks and canapes and then a tour of White Hart Lane including the dressing rooms with the players kit all hung out ready for them (no we didn't et to see the players before the game). We had some pics with Spurs legends, Martin Hurst and Alan Mularry and floating around the room were guys like Pat Jennings and David Pleat. After dinner we went to out seats, which weren't in a box, but in the stands....it was like the best of both worlds....corporate hospitality and being able to sing to Chelsea fans......"your gonna win f*ck all".
