I liked Gardiner’s kicking last night. He normally gives them a lot of air but last night he was drilling them. He seemed to have confidence like I’ve never seen in the guy. It was a joy to watch.
Also like Hannan’s ball use out of the back half. He looks quick.

I scored the game in the record last night. Haven't done it since I was a kid.
I'm not superstitious but I guess it's my new thing.
Good distraction for the nerves too.

Hope your 4 yo is ok EW. My youngest daughter and my 5 mth old grandson in Melbourne have just got covid. My daughter for the second time. What's your itinerary on your trip?
Thanks B4L, she was tired for one day and full of beans for the rest so we were pretty lucky.
We've been through Mt Gambier, Adelaide, Wilpena Pound, Coober Pedy, Uluru, King's Canyon, Devil's Marbles, Daly Waters, Mataranka, Darwin, Kakadu, Katherine, Kununurra, Lake Argyle, Bungle Bungles, Derby, Barn Hill (south of Broome), Port Hedland and are currently at Karratha. Next is Exmouth, Monkey Mia, Dongara the Freo and that's the end of where we're booked to. We'll see what the motivation and money is like before we decide to go south west or cut back across.
Sorry to hijack thread, how about that Jamarra guy?

All the best to those woofers right now either directly or indirectly suffering or recovering from the virus.
Hopefully the win last night made the discomfort at least momentarily fade.

Sounds like a great trip EW. Jamara's game was superb. As his confidence grows his marks stick even his goal kicking gets better. He said he is spending time in the gym too which is paying dividends.

Not to be critical but there should be a different color used for each quarter. :)
You also need to work on the picket fence for 5 goals. Bottom left of the first goal to top right of the 4th.
I also list the players who start the quarter on the bench....but that's just me :)

Just a question for everyone is it a tactic that all our our tall defenders jump and try and spoil the same ball or is it a lack of faith in our ability to win a contest that see us continually give field advantage to their smalls when we fail to kill the contest?
Not to bring the chat negative still on a high last night, but there just seems to be a lot more improvement left in this group we gave up quite a few cheap goals last night.

I’m no expert but for mine it is a lack of faith. Hopefully if Khamis can become the 3rd man up to kill the contes rather than have everyone go up.

There’s a lot of blocking and jostling in a pack situation. You need multiple players involved sometimes to compress the pack, otherwise the forwards will pretend to fly for the ball but protect the player marking from your one man going up

Just read the best players from the match report. Just about Melbourne’s best 6, certainly their best 6 on the park last night. Petty and Weideman the fill ins were good as well. We really beat them at their best last night. It really shows how much centre clearance tactics and fatigue from our players in last years finals contributed to us losing the GF

How good was Garcia’s goal to hit the front?
It wasn’t a regulation kick and let’s be honest; I thought he was 50/50 at best.
Amazing composure and didn’t look like missing.
I read a post from an Eagles fan who saw a bit of Garcia's junior days. He said Garcia loves kicking a goal, and saw him kick 2 in a game from the back pocket.
I think we will see a lot more in the future.

Dunno if we beat them at their best, well, at least if Goodwin's presser was anything to go by. He made a point of playing down Lever being out, but then made sure everyone knew Lever was out and how important Lever is and good Lever is.
It was really interesting that he also talked about massive momentum swings being a trait of Bulldogs games.
But I'm with you, put Lever in and they're better, put Daniel in and we're better. Both teams fielded were extremely strong.

Yeah agree, there is definitely something about Garcia, he has some strong traits. His finishing on Saturday night was so crucial, and yet I still wonder whether if he has that same shot 10 times in a row, maybe he misses 3-4 times?
That's where if he can grow as a player - within that 'reliability' area of the game - he could really be a big-time player for us. If he improves his likeliness to make that shot to an 8 out of 10 chance, or develops the awareness to be able to see and use a teammate who might be better placed to capitalise, then he's going to be a success.
He's got a lot of energy, and loves the physicality of the game.

Like who really cares... He owned the moment. There was no hesitation from Garcia after he took the mark. He simply steadied and from a tight angel put it straight through the middle.
It would've been easy to blink in that situation given the state of the game and look for the pass, but he knew what he was doing and nailed it... I like the confidence to execute under extreme pressure... and I like his hardness.

The club must have seen something in him as it's more than a bit strange to select a player coming off a knee injury and still bring him over. I'd say they were of the belief than one of the WA clubs would rookie list him so that why we took him on our main list.
On face value this was another good list management and recruiting decision.

I know he doesn't exactly give the stats team RSI but McNeil also in our forward mix just looks better than having the rotating mids down there. We won 6 on the bounce early last year with McNeil and Scott as our pressure forwards, and with West/Garcia added to the mix in recent weeks it works even better.
If we can just tweak our centre clearance work (which to be fair we did after half time this week), we are a potent team. The rest of our game was 7 goals better than Melbourne on the weekend. This is why I hate the idea of giving up on 2022 - we are a very good team who should have been performing better than we have so far this season, and this week showed what we are capable of.

Weightman had 6, West 9, Garcia 11.

I guess we care, and Garcia has been guilty too, when one of our guys misses similar defining moments.
So kudos for Garcia for nailing his lines this time, because collectively this has been an ongoing issue and its cost us on a number of occasions.

With just over 6 minutes left Melbourne did not score again.
With 4 minutes and 38 seconds left Garcia kicks a goal and we hit the front.
The entire team held onto a 4 point lead for over four minutes of actual game time.
Considering how shaky our back 7 have been, how much our midfield brigade defensive efforts have been questioned.
Honestly, it was a remarkable effort.

What you have stated is the most frustrating part of our team... when we are committed to the cause we are an extremely good team who can lock down & beat anyone, but we only see it in spurts.
The challenge for the team, and in particular the midfield is to play with a hard defensive edge each & every week... if we can do that we become very hard to play against us.
Let's hope the light bulb has gone off for the group because there's lots of fraudulent teams sitting above us on the ladder.

I was thinking about this both in the context of the fact that of late, we haven’t managed those situations well, but also as I rejoice in how terribly the Bombres completely stuffed up yesterday and it never seemed to occur to anyone to swamp and crowd the wings and backline. Gee they are a rudderless club. It’s heartbreaking. :):):)

Nothing for either ruck, both in the top 4 for both DT and SC. I guess they were involved a lot but didn’t beat their opponent by enough to help their team

Just finished the replay......some observations:
- That was probably the most technical and skilled game of home and away football I've seen for a long time, or ever. Plus, both sides had a lot going for them at different times of the game and it genuinely reminded me of the Dogs vs. Cats games of 2009. Two excellent sides, each well coached and set up just going balls to the wall with one or the other deserved winners on the day. It came down to just a few moments we took, and they missed
- I just can't see how anyone could say Bevo isn't difficult to coach against from a technical standpoint. In two weeks the guy has rearranged our defencive half and gotten the team to play tighter between the arcs than we have all year, and Melbourne had to play out of their skins to beat it outside of the obvious clearance lapses we had in the first two thirds of the game - which are as far as I'm concerned on-field leadership related. Look out if we get someone half as good as May playing for us, and likewise Lever
- If we jag off on the outlet and allow uncontested marks we get picked apart. There's a lot of focus on what Melbourne did to us out of the centre, but we already knew that. If I can think of examples of how we have been ripped outside of that it's the Sydney game at Dockland from last year and at times this last week against Melbourne. If we are going to make any sort of run this year we need to make sure that doesn't happen, we'll get eaten alive on the MCG or any other wide ground we play at
- Josh Bruce was responsible for Bont's first goal due to his leading intensity into the zone and out clearing space. He was also and almost player about five more times throughout the night and with a bit of luck may have kicked one or two with better delivery - or at least given a chance to have a shot. I was massively behind him playing the past two weeks, my view is we now need to go back to Schache as he gives us cover all over the ground and might snag one or two
- The players seem to like each other again. There seems to be care. I know it's easy to see when you're winning, but it really is showing right now
- Cody didn't fall over. Impacted when he needed to, showed exactly why he is dangerous in the air and on the ground
- Garcia is a tough little bugger, great finish after getting one in the guts
- Mitch Hannan isn't great, but he's very useful and seemingly versatile. He stays in for mine until Doc is back
- I've not mentioned the prime movers or the obvious ones, we all know how and why we won on the weekend
- Nobody plays like we do when we are playing well, and we are amazing to watch when doing so. Melbourne were genuinely rattled, and probably thinking about how lucky they were to get us last year in the GF after being kissed on the dick relaxing in WA whilst we were touring across the nation eating shit sandwiches. It's edge of the seat stuff, but Jesus Christ it is enjoyable
