WOOF Player Awards - RD 5 vs North Melbourne 2022

Welcome to the WOOF Player Awards for season 2022, Round 5 clash, Western Bulldogs vs North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium.

There are two awards that you can vote on once the game is completed.

Voting closes this week at 8.00pm on Tuesday. As always, Shop Early and avoid the rush

The first award is for the Joe Marmo Medal for the best players on the ground.

There are 4 votes allocated and it's a 4 for the best and of course 3, 2 and 1.

The second award is for the Ron James Medal for the best 2 pups on the ground.

2 Votes allocated - 2 being for the best pup and 1 for the runner-up
Remember the cut off age for a pup is 22 as at the 1st of January, 2021.

4. Macrae. Really gutsy, output would've been even higher, had he not been off the ground being assessed. He seemed really dangerous with his ball use tonight, some super lovely kicks to the best spot. Tackled hard, and was super good in tight. 10 clearances

3. English. Thought the timing of his leap was much improved at centre bounces this evening and some signs of finesse with his tap work as well. But gee his work around the ground inside and out is really starting to be a consistent weapon that other coaches have to start thinking about.

2. Bailey Smith. Had 43 touches... question the effectiveness of quite a few of them, but nonetheless a herculean effort and was heavily involved in the chains of play that we did get right. Spent 94% time on ground - more than any other Bulldog. Gardner was next with 92%. Also led all players with 642 metres gained and 9 score involvements.

1. Naughton. Kicked much better, and loomed just as dangerous, on the ground as in the air. And his forward pocket ruck tap, which he roved and then snapped for a goal... top shelf.

Without his huge output at the stoppages I suspect it could have been a much closer game. The Roos would be happy with how the clearance battle unfolded, but Jacko was a thorn.

3 - Naughton

What can’t he do? Brilliant and well-rounded game.

2 - English

We’re all going to have a lot of fun watching him tear it up this year. His impact around the ground is Dean Cox level right now.

1 - Smith

43 touches, immense contribution. Created so much space with his running. Marked down for some costly errors - right now opposition teams would much rather he have 43 touches than most of our other midfield stars.

Lack of love for Duryea in here. Very combative, desperate, courageous & physical game. Last line of defense, where angels fear to tread stuff

Weightman with 4 in the first quarter really got us going as well

Smith had a ton of it and did use his breakaway speed but his delivery wasn't great. The idea of running with the ball is to give yourself time to assess your options and break the lines, it doesn't help without good delivery
