I wept when Footscray solidly beat Carlton at Western Oval late '70s with Buckley trudging off spent and the faithful roaring joyously, the perennial underdog followers powerful and triumphant.
Nowadays it is great to confront their precocious coach led revival and I think we'll beat them because we are on the rise.

I started the week with the viewpoint this is a classic 50/50 game the dogs usually loose but I'm now connived we will win.

Our defence has improved a lot, Carlton are Curnow/McKay or bust atm and we have handled the big forwards well this season. We have also just been doing enough the last few weeks and think we are due for a better performance. With Bont, English and Jones going really well, I think we have more depth in our supporting cast to get the chocolates in this one.

Just wish I was there. Still one of my fav games is when Garlic kicked 6 at Princess Park in 2000 and we were one of the few doggies supporters in the new legends stand that day supporting loud and proud. We copped a lot of stick but it was such a sweet victory that one.

Arty was fantastic in the last and I thought English turned it around in the contest and contributed a lot to our win.

Bailey Smith really lifted and Weightman too. Anthony Scott with three goals was very important to the win.

Our defenders stood up under a lot of pressure. Richards was immense and at times heroic. JJ gave us a lot of run. Consider that we kept two of the best forwards in the game to two goals between them. Good effort.
