Apologies to half the team, Sockeye and I were having a very tough time deciding votes toward the end of the last quarter

Marmo

4. Griffen. Class, pure class

3. Morris. Gave Riewoldt the mother of all baths.

2. Hill. Had one bad mark against his name, we all know which. Was superb otherwise.

1. Addison. As I mentioned in another thread, his tackling and ballwinning were the best I've seen him produce and his kicking was superb. It seemed like every time he went near the ball we benefitted. Apologies to Callan who I easily could've slotted into this category.

James

4. Griffen - Best game he's played for the club. His explosive speed, core strength, lovely skills and goal kicking were all on display. A sign of more to come, going to be an absolute star.
3. Hill - Once again just used the ball so well, made good position and ran really, really hard. He's a complete package this kid.
2. Cooney - could've been much higher, his work rate was fantastic and he's definitely having the start to the year he needed. Finding consistency.
1. Morris - Bar the first Qtr, did the job exactly as I'd hoped. Cut off the lines to the ball, spoiled hard and generally made life particularly difficult for Reiwoldt.

2. Griffen
1. Hill

Unlucky to Addison - who again improved his week. I think he has turned the corner as I noted last week, from being a depth player into a reasonable player. Continues to find the ball, to the hard things and was pretty handy and important last night for mine.

If Morris does not take away the 4 votes, I think it will be an absolute travesty. Read all of the comments pre-game about how Reiwoldt was going to destroy us etc etc...his ability to totally shut him down changed the whole nature of the game.

Each to their own. I gave Hahn 4 votes as I thought he provided the spark that everyone else followed, others will suggest we took charge in the midfield making Dale's job a hell of a lot easier, even though Dale put in an outstanding effort, stopping the best player on the ground does not make you the best player on the ground. Neither Hahn or Morris were in the six best in any of the papers.

Marmo:

4- Griffen: So exciting, the teflon man who refuses to be tackled, got clearnaces, kicked goals - just great,
3- Cooney - Just in great form, consistent 4 quarters of good footy and 2 good goals.
2- Morris - Shut down their best player.
1- Hill - was great in the first qtr when we were terrible and gave us plenty of spark.

Honorable mentions to Hahn, Gia and Crossy.

2- Griff

I thought Morris did very well, and made sure I included him in my votes. However he was helped a LOT by our midfield after the first qtr and as such, the ball was not coming in as consistently and as well, and his job was made a bit easier. I'm not trying to undersell his influence, as I certainly had him in our best 3 players, but he benefited a lot from the harder work further up the field, and as such I didn't think he was worth 4 votes.

Defenders get a bum wrap, don't they?

When there's no pressure from the midfield it's the defenders fault his opponent kicks 6 but when he shuts his forward out altogether it's because of the midfield pressure.

The way the rules are no defender stands a chance without midfield pressure but even when the midfield pressure is there being a backman is still a tough gig.

Yeah, I wouldn't like to be a defender, that's for sure. Like I said, I wasn't trying to undersell his influence, just thought we had a few better players on the day.
