Gilbee would have to be a bit stiff.

Good recognition for our players.

Would love Cooney & Griffen to play with & against the elite in the comp. (as long as they don't get injured). Great experience for them both.

How did Johnno get a game???

In all honesty you would have to say he's very lucky as his form certainly hasn't warranted selection, likewise Aker is stiff not to be selected if form is a criteria.

Full squads (thanks A39!!).

5 too many.

Don't worry, at most, Johnno and Cooney will play. Griff might be an outside chance if he keeps going as he is. Johnno on current form would be there on name rather than form, as will a few others.
Be glad we aren't Geelong, they've got 13 and many of them will get a game.

I know they are only squads but there's some wierd calls in there, Leuenberger??, I mean he's going to be very good but now? And as for the awesome form of Jeff White.

Don't discount Morris. With the way he played against Riewoldt and the lack of tall timber (only seems to be Scarlett and Fletcher) in defence he may get a gig/

Thomas is a bad call for me. I HATE HIM SO MUCH. If Cooney performed as well as Thomas he couldn't dream of being chosen.

Yeah like what TUD said, the Cats have 13! So in fact, we have it quite lucky in that regard.

Here's my attempt at the best 22 for the Vics.

B: C Brown Scarlett Fletcher
HB: Shaw Milburn Lappin
C: Power Judd Goodes
HF: Chapman J Brown Murphy
F: Lloyd Fevola Ablett
R: Hille Bartel Hodge

I/C: O'Keefe, Mitchell, Dal Santo, B Johnson

EMG: S Johnson, Harvey, Morris

Morris won't get a game. He's nowhere near a sexy enough name (sorry DG 38). You don't think players for this are going to be chosen strictly on merit do you? Lloyd's barely played for a year and done bugger all this year, but he'll be there on the day.

I guess your right with it being a one off game which will serve the main purpose of making money. However it will be bad if the Vics loose.

I wouldn't be surprised to see none of our players play in this due to niggles

Then they wouldn't be allowed to travel to Freo.

I think most of the guys they have named will be able to make pretty convincing cases

Cooney - ongoing management of OP
Griffen coming of a dislocated kneecap, twisted bowel
Johnson - general wear and tear having played 300+ games
Murphy - knee reconstruction and soft tissues injuries in 07

Morris is the one who the case is not as easy for but he is perhaps less likely to be selected

But didn't the AFL say that if you can't play for the DT/Vic then you can't play the week after regardless of the reason?

I tried to tell my family that Dale would get picked for the squad and they wouldn't have any of it, so I'm just happy that he was picked for that...I doubt he'll get a game, like you said, these games are about flash and that's just not him.

I was also really pleased he was picked DG, as I was when he made the Australian squad vs Ireland - hes a great footballer and even when he plays a down game, his commitment and application to the task are incredible.

Not that I give a stuff who in the squads but some of the picks are ridiculous. You can see Sheedy has gone for mates in a couple of instances.
Hille & Fraser surely aren't the two best VIC rucks.
Stanton is an obvious Sheedy pick.
There are few media hyped Pies players - Shaw, Swan, Davis & Thomas.
What has Alwyn Davey done to deserve a game?

...for his handful of touches.

He will get a game, mark my words. There will be a high Indigenous player ratio, or the AFL would be RACISTS!

I wonder how much influence Sheedy has over Thompson's selections, being his old boss. Players like Davey are Sheedy esque for the style he's chosen for the International Rules.

Perhaps he's trying to generate a legit gameplan that involves forward pressure which Davey provides in spades. (just for discussion sake) Instead of just choosing the seemingly best players.
