Andrew Phillips?

I find it hard to believe after 12 years and in a year where he has actually looked like he was ok he pulls the pin.

Could he feel he is endangering a position of Eker Legend if he continued and actually played a few more noteworthy games.

Isaac is an honorary Bullgod.

Who could forget his after the siren miss in the 2016 qf that took the Cats to the other side of the draw.

God bless you Isaac. May your footy career rest in peace.

Really sad to hear that, he was a phenomenal athlete. Missed out on the 2018 West coast granny. Just bad luck with injuries

some interesting bit of footy trivia : Many media commentators believed that Naitanui was in contention to be taken as the number 1 pick in the 2008 AFL Draft.[6] The Melbourne Football Club, who retained that pick, had looked at Naitanui, but raised concerns that his family connections in Western Australian would prevent him from succeeding for an extended period as an AFL footballer in Victoria, and instead selected Victorian Jack Watts.

we all know how that turned out, poor Jack, he went at number 1 instead of nic.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nic_Naitanui

Did he go for 1 year to long ? kinda hard to say when he got AA in 2021 playing 22 games.

Conversely I sometimes wonder what kind of career Rack Watts would have had without the immense pressure of number 1 being lumped upon him.

I am glad we nurtured JUH and made him earn his games . Also having Naughton as number 1 forward and Josh Bruce before him , shielded JUH from the scrutiny.

thats a common theme with much maligned forwards, there is a long list
Wright(5) , Daw(4) , Weidemann (3) , +Watts, Zaine Cordy(2) , come to mind.

Drew Petrie ( he kicked 47 goals against us) - he wasn't that bad

Jack Riewoldt to announce retirement today. Has been a champion of the game.

Pick 13 in 2006, and to think we went for Everitt at pick 11 - what a miss, plus he is Rocket's cousin on mothers side (not nick's side)

Great player. One of the great key forwards in the game.

It's amazing how views change over the years. I absolutely hated the guy and thought he was a complete knob. He's been a great player for the Tigers and has been a huge positive for them on and off the field. Times catching him and has pulled the pin at the right time. Bravo on a great career.

You're right he was more than a tad annoying in the early days and didn't he once jump the fence in his footy gear and catch a train rather than have to deal with a couple of reporters?
I liked him on the regular AFL 360 segment and whenever I heard him on the radio.

He gets brownie points for that act-good lateral thinking and a bit of an environmental flavour-bravo. Don’t mind him but hated it when he and Dusty took us to the cleaners. Might be a good assistant.

Jack is definitely smarter than I ever thought he was and loved how selfless he was in the second half of his career and got his just reward.

I think a few doggies players could learn a bit by listening to him, the majority in our group right now aren't prepaid to sacrifice themselves for the benefit of the team even our role players don't tackle at the Kennel.

Must not be much interest in Bonner, not even bothering to try and get some free agency compo.

Teakle has fallen out of favour quickly having be selected ahead of Lycett at times this year. A possible free Sweet replacement? 204cm and about to turn 24.

*Pick 1 in the mid season draft.

Not sure what happened with Edwards because at the time I recall North had supposedly done well grabbing him before the national draft where he was going to be in demand.

Young isn't surprising, never quite looked up to the level.

Well that depends on the content of the post.

I'm not sure why but ok? (Note HUN, he's not a midfielder)

Popular midfielder Trey Ruscoe took to Instagram to reveal the news he had been cut by the Pies.

?Wow what a journey it has been,? Ruscoe wrote.

?I?ve met some amazing people along the way that I am just so thankful for and I?m just so happy that I got the opportunity to play at such a great club.

?The friendships I have made will be forever lasting and I will miss everyone from the club so much. Everyone has played a massive part in my career and I have learnt many lessons on the way which I am so thankful for.

?To the Collingwood faithful fans you have been awesome and I couldn?t have done it without your support the whole way through.

?Thank you Collingwood Football Club.?

Ok thanks axe. When you said social media post I was more thinking he'd posted something unsavoury on social media and been sacked for it.

Thoughts on Trent Bianco?

Just an average player based on what we know, I'm not sure he would be an upgrade on many of our boys but perhaps he might.
Happy to hear other views though.

I’d be interested in Ruscoe. He looked really good in the one and only game he got this year, surprised they’re cutting bait.

Hawks have cut Bramble, Ned Long and Fergus Greene.

Fergus a bit unlucky with 15 goals from 11 games, I guess the return of Gunston sealed his fate.

Fergus a bit unlucky with 15 goals from 11 games, I guess the return of Gunston sealed his fate.

Time for a Ferg homecoming then.

But surely he would go back to local footy now, after having two cracks at the AFL. Just go enjoy your footy mate.

Yes, clinically so. And I was a Fergus fan. No time for sentiment in the caper. Time for some fava beans and a nice Chianti. Grrrr, rowf.

Back to Madame Jekyll mode….It’s sad to see players dreams shattered after a young lifetime of preparation and playing. I hope he gets another go at another club but I doubt it.

Bonner looked like he could’ve been anything. Shame for him. Hopefully he goes to the VFL and gets some runs on the board for another crack. Like Schache in a sense, he has the tools but can’t put it altogether yet.

So Essendon delisted Voss and Snelling, I’m quite surprised on Voss from what I read coming from supporters during the year.
But as always as soon as he was delisted he was rated as no good by the same supporters calling for him to get games.
What’s the thought on Voss seems to have been pretty good at vfl level.

If he gets fit that seems like a good pick up.

Orazio has been injured for most of his time at PA and a fair chunk at Essendon

Carlton must see something in him or have faith he can get his body right . I doubt it though, does not have the durability at AFL level . As a small forward requires fast twitch muscles and be able to get onto park for long periods.

I'd actually totally forgotten he existed until this thread.

The Western Bulldogs confirm duo Hayden Crozier and Roarke Smith will not be offered contracts for 2024.

The Western Bulldogs confirm duo Hayden Crozier and Roarke Smith will not be offered contracts for 2024.

Crozier arrived at the Kennel during the 2017 Trade Period, playing 73 games across six seasons for the red, white and blue.

In total, the 29-year-old has played 142 games at Fremantle and the Western Bulldogs.

The defender played four games in 2023, suffering a hamstring injury mid-season that sidelined Crozier for two months.

Smith joined the Club through the 2015 Rookie Draft at Pick 5, playing 47 games during nine seasons.

A versatile team player, Smith played a variety of roles throughout his time in the red, white and blue, finding a home on the wing for the past few seasons.

Due to a plantar fascia issue, Smith was unable to play at AFL level this season.

Bulldogs’ General Manager of List and Recruiting Sam Power thanked both players for their service to the red, white and blue.

“Both Hayden and Roarke have made a significant contribution to our playing group, both on and off the field,” Power said.

“The pair always had a team-first attitude and would play any role required for the team and we thank them for their dedication to the Western Bulldogs.

“We wish Hayden and Roarke, as well as their families, all the best for the future. They’re always welcome back at VU Whitten Oval.”

He's done exceptionally well. He's a good club man and gives them some insurance to cover the ruck role.

It's thinking like that that has made me glad we held on to Sweet.

Hawthorn have delisted Chad Wingard and Cooper Stephens (a year after they got him as part of the Tom Mitchell trade from Geelong), but have committed to redrafting them in the rookie draft.

I know Wingard has done his achilles and likely won't play until the later part of next season but would a contender take a risk and swoop in? Could he be a handy addition to a forward line going into finals, or is he cooked?

Geelong maybe , they like older players with experience who can influence a game sometimes.
Teams could pick him up to teach young kids eg North.
Interesting gamble.

If it wasn't the achilles then maybe a club would, but I don't think anyone would even consider it at this point.

He's a player who should have been so much more than he was. Looked unreal in his first few years but never evolved and as a result went backwards.

Hawthorn would love a do over wouldn't they, keep Burton and draft Rozee.

It would be a big contract to pick up for a year without getting much of a return on it. I think he's probably still got some good footy ahead of him but it would be a risky addition and I'd pass.

Could Chad Wingard, despite Hawthorn’s pledge, become the latest player to shift clubs after being delisted?

The Age’s Michael Gleeson reports Wingard met with Collingwood on Friday. However, it’s reported that his preference is to remain at Hawthorn, who have committed to redrafting him on the rookie list later this month.

The Hawks delisted Wingard on Thursday despite re-signing him in September. He’s set to miss much of 2024 after tearing his Achilles earlier this year, yet the Hawks have remained faithful to the 30-year-old.

But by delisting Wingard, the dual All-Australian could be taken by a club in the national or rookie draft before he’s picked by the Hawks.

The Age reports Wingard underwent a medical at the Pies on Friday and met with Craig McRae and footy boss Graham Wright, both of who worked with Wingard at Hawthorn.

North Melbourne midfielder Hugh Greenwood famously walked out on the Suns after he was delisted, blindsiding Gold Coast by moving south in the delisted free agency window.

The 2023 free agency window closed on Friday afternoon. Wingard has played 218 AFL games across stints at both Port Adelaide and Hawthorn.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see someone back Wingard in. Assuming he’s able to get back to fitness, as a clever forward line player (and he’s very clever) he could be a great addition to a side at the pointy end.

I think I heard Wingard is liking Marra’s posts on Insta, so he’s a sure thing to come to us.

Excited.

I have not rated Wingard as highly as some due to his inconsistency through his career. Now passed his best years

Scott Lycett retires with 146 games
Fair effort , his last 2 years at Port were injury prone.
To get close to 150 games for a ruckman is a good achievement.

Premiership under his belt too

His had a good career. Nic Nat being a good comparison , as they both at west coast at their peak. LYCETT is very fortunate he won a premiership, but thats more to his credit.

Just goes to show , good ruckman ,in form during premiership window is very hard to find.

We were blessed to have Boyd play out of his skin and Roughead with great support in 2016.

Where we could have gone in 2021 if Martin had some more youth in his frame , who knows ???
