Thought I would dedicate a thread to this and start it now.

How should we go about the game plan for season 2024?

Would like us to play with more flare chaos much like how Macrae at the Pies has and Hardwick at the Tigers in recent years underpinned by a solid defence which the premiership sides have.

Will be interesting to see woofers views on this.

1. kick is the first option.
2. don?t get stuck next to the boundary.
3. Daniel up forward.
4. kick-ins aim for the logo.
5. Ruckman is standing on the logo.
6. No-one under 8 foot tall tries to outmark Naughton.
7. Display the increase in running speed developed over the summer at every opportunity.

No time to list the other 10.

Ability to run back without the ball and cause Turnovers to win it back.

Defending throughout the ground has not been our style for a while and we desperately need to get this back. Some of our tackling pressure recently certainly has not been good enough.

We can tinker all we like but short of trading in Kossie Pickett & Charlie Cameron we desperately need a fresh plan for a forward line that's such a trampoline it stresses virtually every other other aspect of our play.

I find it strange and accept it may be just me however. Back at Bevos early days we invented the chaos game plan which has been adopted by Port, Tigers and Pies.

Remember back to 2016. We had Bont, Dunks, Cordy all third man up in the ruck hit the ball forward and all our mids run onto it and clear the area with handball. “The handball club” we actually got ahead of ourself and tried to invent another game plan after 2016. I know we had tackle beasts with Libba, Boyd, Morris, Smith, Biggs, Bont and Dunks. But fail to see why we can’t go back to this type of game. We were hard and tough to play against.

For me it’s summed up by that Saints guys got suspended for a dangerous tackle. He was asked would he not tackle next time in the same situation and he replied NO as Ross would drop him if he didn’t tackle. Sums up our problem right there for me.

We were the 3rd highest tackling team in the AFL for 2023.

Before people jumped down my throat, yeah some players need to hold tackles better.

Need to get better at this because I saw this way too often with us this year.

That is strange, because Footywire has different figures

Either way we are up there

If you chase a lot of ball you are going to lay tackles. Lets be honest though there are tackles and there are effective tackles.

Exactly. Then add the fact we play a horrendously congested game style with slow ball movement. Will of course lead to more tackles.

Then why complain we don't tackle enough

Then why complain we don't tackle enough

Because we don't tackle effectively enough.

We are ok when it is tight and congested, but that only leads to more stoppages.

We need to be more effective to create turnover.

Beveridge et al actually have and implement a plan when the opposition starts a run on, not after they have kicked 6 or 7 straight.

First up . When running into the forward line if no forward is Free or leading kick it to a 50/50 contest not straight to their best defender who is 20 mtrs on his own.
Also avoid kicking to where the opposition ruckman is when kicking out from a point or running into the forward line.
With 3 to 4 talls available in our forward line we kick to the players who do not have the best backman on them.
Our tall forwards should not compete against each other (see Hawkins / Cameron at Geelong)
Lead away from each other with the roving forwards working out which one to follow for the spoil. Eg Weightman under Naughton . West under Jamarra.
