Similar to previous reports I've copied an update from yesterdays session on the Unleashed board as read only.
This will allow all WOOF members even the ones who aren't making a contribution to discussions to have a read.
Enjoy
Friday 12/1/24
Okay some snippets from a different sort of session from our normal Fridays
Time Trial
I can't be sure of the distance but the times to the finish line ranged from about 6.40 to 7.30+
Bedendo the clear winner with Weightman and Bramble right behind him.
The field was well strung out rather than being a more competitive bunched up run but perhaps I shouldn't expect that as it's a very different style of running when compared to match sims and footy drills.
What caught my eye with Bedendo was that he was in a small group of runners 15mtrs behind the leaders which were mainly Weightman and Bramble. Bramble took the lead for a while before he was passed by Weightman and then into the final lap Bedendo surged to the front and put a bit of distance between himself and Weightman and Bramble with the fast finishing McNeil right up there.
I know BT is more list management than talent identification focused but his early call on Charlie Clarke being the bolter screams of insider trading information that wasn't communicated with all of us shareholders until now :)
Clarke was right up there in the running today and while I can't be sure where he finished, it had to be top 6 or 7.
When I think back to 12 months ago that is a massive improvement and Jamie Maddocks and the club should be well pleased with the way the development academy is progressing.
Other prominent runners included McNeil, Richards, Bontempelli, Scott, O'Donnell and Ugle-Hagan and then Vandermeer, and Poulter.
One other that stood out not so much from where he finished but more focused with the the effort that he put in was Busslinger.
I think it's fair to say he was a long way off with his running when he arrived in fact and given now he was able to compete with some of the more midfield players within the group is an impressive level of achievement and improvement.
I agree with PR0408 in that time trial results aren't the be all so please do not read in a lot more than it's a just one of many tests the players are put through and that doesn't necessarily suit a lot of players. It's more about PB's than pure times or in what order they finish.
Some of the players who struggled were Darcy who was a long way last, Khamis who was probably 30tmrs ahead of Darcy but a long way back. Harmes was at the back of the group as well and really appeared to be laboring which surprised me given Melbourne apparently do more non football type running than we do so it might actually debunk that myth. JJ, Duryea, Lobb and Gardner.
Rehab/MIA
English not on the track, Keath only there for a little while. Draftees Sanders, Croft, Freijah, Smith and O'Driscoll all at an AFL programed event. Treloar running 100mtr drills with Naughton. Liam Jones doing some specialised training before joining the group in the skill drills. Garcia mainly doing the running along the Hawkins wing. Bramble dropped back into this group when the more contact drills were happening.
Skill Drills
A number of short sharp sessions today of about 8 minute durations.
2 way and 3 way kicking drill Starts off with some very short range kicks but before expanding out. Players kept changing their kicking foot and there was a mixture of high and ground ball kicking.
Ground Ball Drills which seemed to be part of the early focus and warm up session.
Keepings off pitting 5 v 5 was a spirited session
Rock around the Clock seemed to have a particular focus on low and flat precision kicking to players running at close to full tilt. It looks sensational when executed correctly and of course near embarrassing when it goes wrong but the positives thrashed the negatives in that regard.
Zoned Handballs had 5 v 5 type set-up.
Zoned defence where players tried to defend a combination of a zone and the player but mainly to clog up the area where players might lead to.
This will allow all WOOF members even the ones who aren't making a contribution to discussions to have a read.
Enjoy
