This is the Round 2, 2024 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once today's game against Gold Coast is concluded post your nominations for:
The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play
Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.
Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

Weightman 6 when Naughton and JUH well held
Libba great tussle with their best player
Treloar can tackle when he wants to
Anchors
Injuries to Coff and Richards
Think we can do better that VDM and Poulter
We always seem to play a bad quarter, don't know why

Weightman catching fire.
Khamis intercepting art will against bigger opponents, very good
Libba didn't get the stats but I had him as our best. Outstanding game against Rowell who is a beast.
Anchors
Coff's shoulder. Poor guy
Marra robbing Dale of a goal. Play the team game son
West should have gotten a CBA or 2 in the first half for mine. Rotate more heavily.

I'll go outside of the more obvious ones.
1.Bramble looks like he could be a very astute pickup, and potentially maybe a pacier upgrade on Duryea long term?
2. Our back 6, some good teamwork that enabled all to get some great impact on contests. Loved the combined intercept work of Jones and Bhuku. If Bhuku can build some core strength without losing his vertical leap, then I think he can really play a nice Joel Hamling style role for us. Big enough to compete when he has to in one on ones against bigger opponent's, providing the rest of the team defense ensures that doens't happen too often in a game. He can then use his athleticism to be a real aerial predator around the D-50.
3. Hope Croft is a key defenders... cause Darcy is clearly destined for a ruck/forward role. And if Bev hasn't sent Naughton back by now, he won't ever be.
Anchors
1. Some of VDM's decisions make your head spin, however I can see why they pick him. He does some good things and he runs and runs
2. Umpiring. I wonder if it is an unconscious response to the ALWAYS spoken about stats having us as being umpire darlings. Not anymore... I mean some of the most basic precepts of AFL were just blatantly adjudicated differently at times today between the two sides.
3. Cursed Injury gods - looks like by Coffield's reaction this is not just a short or even medium term injury. Poor guy deserves a break.

Bankers
1. Treloar must have had a rocket up him for his lack of defensive work last week. He ran and ran and tackled - 8 tackles
2. Weightman was on fire early on and really set us up 4 goals in the first
3. Gallagher, Sanders Bramble - all playing their second game for us, were excellent today
Anchors
1. Western bulldogs club supporters - last week who were already calling for Bevo's head after a dismal showing against Melbourne - need to think of the long game not one game.
2. Injury to Coffield - poor guy can't take a trick.
3. The three women sitting behind me who whinged the whole game about the umpires, plus couldn't work out which player was which - a tad annoying but also funny

Bankers
Darcy - a lock for the season
Libba - his 1 on 1 war with Rowell was a highlight.
JJ - fine running game off half back.
Anchors
Poulter - underdone, wasn't ready
Naughton and Ugle-Hagan didn't contribute much imo.
Selectors - last week it was McNeill before Daniel, this week they had Macrae languishing in the VFL, 47 possessions whilst Vandermeer ran around doing sfa.

The B team: Baker, Bramble and Buku. Really solid contributions across the field in important moments.
Cody 6 goals, lit the fuse.
Dutch Vandermeer poking and prodding and upsetting everyone.
Anchors
Goal in the 3rd from a chain of 3 handballs and no one got close to tackling.
Umpires.
Injuries.

I didn?t mind Laith?s game today. Thought he did some good things. Sure he doesn?t rack up the possessions, but that?s not his role. He contested, pressured the defence and was in the opposition faces. Not sure what the argument is with Laith being selected in front of Jack. Laith played a role that Jack doesn?t .

He started a couple of dust ups. Fwiw I'd have Garcia and Harmes in before him too.

Bankers
- our midfield in beast mode is glorious
- naughton high up the ground at times was a dangerous presence and helps us transition
- bakers run and setup of a goal with 1 minute to go 40 odd points up
Anchors
- injuries. Coffield held together with sticky tape poor guy and Richards and big loss
- fading in and out of the game - still extended periods where we can?t curb a teams run
- some of the umpiring in the second half was atrocious
Bankers:
Liam Jones again. You can BANK him!
Kicking for goal. Gotta call it out when its good!
Cody - shut the gate on Gold Coast pretty early.
(Shout out extra banker is how Jamarra's pack marking is coming along and generally him clamping tougher passes).
Anchors:
Injuries.
Umm don't have much else. Was at the Grand Prix - so was able to watch the game later, quite calmly. I should miss games more often.

Surely an anchor for Ozza giving preference to that Motor Revhead Rubbish over the Dogs (although the Round 1 effort made it hard to get excited for the footy)
