This week's ESPN pod claims that the Roos over the past 5-years are the AFL's worst ever team. During that time, their win % is just 13% - lower than Fitzroy in the lead-up to that club being kicked out of the AFL (aka merged with the Bears) and lower than University between 1910 and 1914 before they withdrew from the comp never to return post WW1.

There was a further comment that since 2018 they have had 95 players through the footy club...I have no interest in verifying that claim but it seems like a LOT.

They have the worlds greatest coach/racist/misogynist steering the ship - at > market rates it's fair to say - and have been receiving priority picks etc from the AFL. What happens next?

How is this viable in any way???

It’s not.

They should've been the club to go to Tasmania. The conp shouldn't be expanding. We'll be left with even more basket cases.

Not sure how they can justify paying Clarkson the dollars he is on.
The results aren't coming. In fact they were pretty non competitive in a game against the other worst side.

I know there is a bit of angst with the additional picks that North received last year but while the return was never going to be immediate they're still a long way off getting a solid team on the park. They really need to try and attract a couple of good experienced players to compliment their younger guys.

They need to stop attracting the wrong ones (Polec, Corr), not to mention throwing the kitchen sink at the likes of Gaff who is now stinking it up in the WAFL.

They try to attract experienced players every year but have only managed to attract middling types such as Greenwood, Stephenson, Corr, Stephens, Fisher, Logue, and Coleman-Jones. Nobody very good wants to go there and it's hard to see that changing until they start to improve.

St Kilda still has the title of "Worst Team Ever" - over a 6 season span from 1897 to 1902 they won only 2 games and finished most years with a percentage in the 20s. 6 straight wooden spoons, 4 winless seasons, and routinely lost by 10 goals plus when teams in other games struggled to get to 50 points most weeks.

I can’t see Clarkson or Hardwick having success.

Dimma will. That’s a good list.

On field, or their bank balance and retirement?

They never should have gotten rid of Tom Campbell. 2023 clubman at the saints. His the type of senior player they want.

Also they ruined his chances of threatening the eker award from Currie.

Isn't BTC still going around with the Saints?

2018: 1 retirement (Waite), two traded out, seven delisted plus three rookies. Traded in four players (Polec, Pittard, Tyson and Hall), drafted four (Tarryn Thomas among them), rookied four, took BTC as a pre season selection. That's 13.
2019: Two delisted, two retired, three rookies cut. 1 MSD, 1 Free Agent, one traded in (Aiden Bonar), three drafted (earliest pick was pick 31). 6 (Total 19)
2020: 8 Delisted (Didn't count Majak Daw as he was re-rookied), two rookies cut, Two traded out (Higgins, Ben Brown). Added 1 FA (Aidan Corr), Five Drafted, added two rookies. 8 (total 27)
2021: One Traded out (Tarrant) five delistings , three rookies out. Two MSD, One FA in, One Trade in (CCJ), Five drafted (Horne-Francis at 1) one PSSS. Polec moved to rookie list. 10 (total 37)
2022: One traded out (JHF), One retired, five delisted (Polec among them), two rookies cut. One MSD, two traded in (Logue and Tucker FFS), four drafted (Sheezel/Wardlaw at 3/4), 3 rookies added (Kayne Turner moved to rookie list). One PSSS (Shiels). 11(Total 48)
2023: lost 2 FA (Goldstein, McKay), four retirements, five delisted, two rookies cut. One MSD, three traded in, Five drafted, one rookied, 1 PSSS. 11 (total 59).

The math adds up. 59 players in/out plus the 40-odd already on the books. Thats an average of almost 10 new faces at the club every year for six years and they easily have the worst list in the league. That's as damning a period of list management I've seen for a long time.
