Pretty ugly first quarter Dees v Tigers

How was that not a holding the balll or insufficient intent to get rid of the ball against Gawn. Seems like you can pretend you have taken a mark and just lie there and umpires are sympathetic to that action

No greater sight than Steven May getting burnt upfield by a turn over and then throwing his arms up in the air complaining to his teammates!

ANZAC Eve is quickly turning into the second biggest event on the calendar behind ANZAC Day. It's so significant and such an honour to be kicking off such a significant round of football with two very proud clubs.

Look at everyone staying behind to recognise the significance of the post match ceremony. Great dedication from the supporters of two Victorian institutions.

Concussion is a huge challenge for the AFL but I wonder what percentage of concussions are because of high marks?
I hate to even suggest it but perhaps the competition will have to reluctantly accept some concussions will happen in otherwise fair marking attempts.

Dunks is a good player. But if he was influenced to leave because he was spending time at half-forward and moments in the ruck, well...welcome to the new normal. Patrick Cripps did some ruck work for Carlton last week and he's a lot more critical to the blues than Dunks was to us (or is to Brisbane).

I still like to think his reasons were honorable (cold, hard cash!!!) but you never know.

Our loss to Essendon probably needs to be reanalysed, in light of the fact that they only had one mulligan all season to date (against Port) and have been highly competitive in every other match this season. What they did to hold firm against Collingwood's onslaught 5 mins before half time, and then honestly be the better team for most of the 2nd half, was impressive.

We were definitely crap on that Friday night but perhaps not as crap as we all thought straight after.

For me it was less about the performance and more about that we lost to Essendon which is the worst loss we can have from a moral standpoint and it makes me the most sad. If we can't be genuinely good we have to at least beat them.

I think expected score has us beating Essendon and Geelong and sitting in 4th place going into this week.

It has us above Geelong who would have lost to us and Adelaide had things gone 'as per the probabilities'...As they say, good teams kick goals.

They also kicked 15.6 that night. They kicked them from everythwhere. Straight kicking and some dubious umpiring kept them in the game early. We also had a couple of chances to put some serious scoreboard pressure on them and failed due to our own innacuracy or some terrible decisions going inside 50m.

They blew us away late, which was the dissapointing thing.

Ross has built relationships with the 'main players' in the media though and they protect him/stand up for him. He HAS upset a few over the journey who fired shots when he was sacked by Freo...but in the main, he is protected by the 'club' because they like him.

Bevo has not gone out of his way to build relationships and when people come to his defence - in the way Luke Darcy and Ameet recently tried to - they just become further subjects of the anti Bevo crew.

I was glad the CEO stood up for the coach last week but the outcome from Cornes, Wilson et al was predictable...
