This is the Round 9, 2024 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once this evening's game against Richmond is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

Bankers

1. Jones. He still has amazing closing speed for a 33 year old.

2. Naughts, he set the tone up forward and really is starting to show he's stepping up leadership wise. His conversion so far this year has been a real positive. I think he's kicked 13.3 from set shots tonight this season. He's either hitting way above his expected outcome and going to have a massive course correction at some stage, or he's improved.

3. Treloar. For a guy who I expect still is Black and White under the hood.. he is a 100% professional and not just in the tangibles, but invests in the intangibles, and that shows heart, desire and buy-in.

Anchors.

1. Marra. Something is off, he's either trying to hard off the back of a new contract, or something is on his mind that isn't allowing him to just play unshackled. Hope he comes out of it soon.

2. A bit concerning is that whilst it was a very big win. It was worse than the margin suggested. That was a 130-140 margin kind of difference.. we just weren't able to deliver the coup de gras Mortal Kombat move. Our forays forward were still a concern.

that will do.

I keep reading this re Treloar but what is it based on?

Surely he's proven he's RW&B.

He was sour on Collingwood as was his wife and fair enough but I haven't heard him really mention them for 2 years.

Reckon we need to stop finding ways to give him backhanded compliments.

1. Harmes, played his best game for us, hopefully can go on with it

2. West has really taken on the role as a small forward - his pressure was really good tonight

3. Ed has taken on the mid role and is excelling- just needs to hit his targets better going into F50

Anchors

1. 19 behinds - lots of set shot misses

2. ****ing Seagulls really spoilt the viewing and one decided to shit on my jacket

I didn't think I was giving him a backhanded compliment. It sure wasn't my intent.

I reckon I'm not saying anything Adz hasn't outright said himself.
When he retires, short of a flag with us I think he will have no qualms saying he's a Pies man.
Maybe not a Nathan Buckley one perhaps!

Many hands make light work - clearly had buy in from the whole team tonight with our pressure and used teammates well to share the pill around without overusing it.

Richards - great to see him bank a good midfield outing, that will help with his confidence in the role. We're all excited by his pace through the guts but how about some of his defensive work tonight? Some really important smothers and tackles at the stoppages.

O'Donnell - similar story, hadn't really clicked for him this year up until now. Perhaps having Keath in the side freed him up, either from a match-up perspective or just psychologically. His coverage of the ground and ball handling was very impressive. Hopefully this can be a good foothold for him moving forward.

Anchors

Missed shots - some very simple shots were missed, sometimes with a slight arrogance late in the game. Thinking of the West banana from 40m, Williams toying around in the goal square.

Inconsistency - a big win like this really does highlight the massive gap between our best and our worst this season. Four teams now would say that their worst performance of the season came against us. None of those sides are in the top eight but the brutality of those wins should leave us in no doubt that our best is very good. We need to break the duck and win a close game against good opposition. The coming week against the plastics is the perfect opportunity.

Balta - complaining to the umpire while your teammate is lying on a stretcher next to you is the height of distasteful.

B
1. Maintaining effort and pressure right to the end instead of settling for a scrappy win
2. Treloar spoke this week supporting Bevo & saying the loss to Hawks was on the players. Then he walked the talk in a brilliant performance that had it all.
3. Sam Darcy. He could be the best player in the comp very very soon.

A.
1. Seagulls. It was like a horror movie.
2. Richmond injuries were awful. Though why poor Tim got booed I don’t understand.
3. Bramble. Enough please. Those mistakes against poor opposition, under no pressure. I’m over it.

Treloar played five seasons with Collingwood. He played 94 games.

He his now in his fourth season with the Bulldogs and arguably is playing his best footy since he crossed over this year. He has said a number of times he wants to play 100+ games with the Bulldogs. His support of the club and Bevo this week was great. He showed great leadership.

He is currently on 67. I hope he gets there. He still looks like he has plenty of footy left.

I do too. His comments concerning the players ownership of their results and support for Bevo in the media last week, in the aftermath of the performance against the Hawks were what I wanted to hear from the group. I also wanted to hear it from someone other than the Bont.
I bet he's a ripper of a teammate.

1. Treloar - he was everywhere
2. Naughton - covered more ground than Ludwig Leichhardt and avoided the tragic ending.
3. Harmes - got plenty of it and kicked 4.
ANCHORS
1. Goalkicking - both set shots and snaps
2. Marra - just wasn't in the game enough and looked like he was mouthing off.
3. Injury to Van der Meer

Here here re. Adz not sure what more he can do he's proven himself again and again.

Loves the club.

Will probably win a B&F this year and solidify that.

Marra will refocus he's had a big month I'll just say that.

4. Treloar
3. Bont
2 Richards

There is a number of our supporters who haven't embraced him and I'm not sure why. They will quickly call him out when we lose.

Naughton just keeps presenting and making and making a contest. We need to bury that backline talk.
Treloar is a hear and soul player and we need to embrace that hes totally invested.
Richards bounced back from an average game and was a key reason for our impressive and much needed win.

Anchors
Hard to see a lot that went wrong
Felt a bit sorry for VDM but if he misses some weeks todays Footscray game might open the door for someone deserving.
Gallagher might need a couple of weeks at Footscray. He was okay but missed some chances.
Marra hasnt been right for the last 2 weeks. It was very noticeable again that hes struggling with form and perhaps with effort.

Young and inexperienced guys like Garcia, Cleary and FJ were very good or at least competent.

Treloar, Naughton, Richards and Jones were excellent amongst the senior guys

Watching Darcy develop and perform is great fun. There will be a point in the near future when he passes the King brothers.

Anchors

The injuries on both sides, especially Rioli.

Not sure whether Bramble and VDM should be in the side.

JUH not quite himself.

Bankers;

Darcy - so exciting to have him coming through.
Treloar - I don't often give him a lot of love - but there was real purpose in his game. Long may he continue to not just give the 1 metre handball and use his run, carry and be more agrressive.
Naughton - work rate and leading up at the footy.

Anchors:

Hard to give anchors when its a 100 point win and felt like everything went our way when the game was up for grabs (bounce of the ball, umpires, opposition making glaring errors).

All of it doesn't mean much if we don't bring a good level of play to western sydney this week.....which I'll be going to, so please let us play well.
