Do we generally like the bolded teams winning?

I think we're too far back from Sydney and Brisbane so better for them to knock back a team aspiring for the 8 and another just ahead of us in GWS who we can overtake if we keep winning.

Freo/Geelong is a bit of a win/win but it might be the only chance we get to overtake Geelong. They have 2 games they should win comfortably coming up

Hawks would be nice if they drop away but I have them missing the 8 even if they beat Carlton so pegging Carlton back off our tail would be helpful

We have our destiny almost totally in our hands.

Freo over Geelong helps for top 4.
Sydney lose all 3 remaining and we can overtake them
Collingwood are no threat if we keep winning
GWS are taken care of by us if we keep winning.
Carlton and Hawthorn are no threat to our position if we keep winning.

Pleasure in a Carlton loss would be tempered by Hawthorn being potentially more of a finals threat.

Essendon no threat to us but losing to Gold Coast would cement them to 20 years without a finals win, but leave them with a chance of another finals loss.

Sydney have lost everything , backline is stuffing up everything and the mids have no connection with the forwards.
Amazing turnaround to lose all the team work they had going.

They couldn't defend against a Collingwood side that had very little from Nic Daicos.
Ground level they were really poor.

Essendon likely to score heavily against them and Adelaide have ground level forwards that could feast on them if they don't have dramatic improvement from what they showed against Collingwood.

Surely it would not be arbitrary what is 50 vs 25. If you bring in a 25m penalty you standardise which infractions they apply to.

That's why last night, all the ump has to do is call the player back on the mark - there was no time wasting, Mcartin was running fast and went over the mark for a second.

The original 50m rule was introduced for time wasting and holding up play.

50m Penalty:

50-metre penalties are primarily used to deal with time wasting or unsportsmanlike conduct after a mark or free kick is awarded. Specific infractions which can result in a 50-metre penalty include:

Arguing with, disputing the decision of, or using abusive language towards an umpire.
Scragging the player who has taken a mark; that is, to tackle the player or impede him from taking the kick as quickly as he would like.
Failing to return the ball quickly and on the full to a player who has been awarded a free kick.
Wasting time, deliberately or inadvertently, by kicking the ball forward after one's team has conceded a free kick.
Using unnecessary roughness against a player who has already taken a mark.
Running over the mark; the man standing on the mark cannot move forward, and must respond if called to recede by the umpire.
Running through the mark; other defensive players who are not standing on the mark may not run across the imaginary line between the man standing the mark and the man taking the kick, unless following his direct opponent.
Entering the protected zone; defensive players may not impede an opponent by entering or remaining within the corridor of space extending ten metres either side of the imaginary line between the man standing the mark and the man taking the kick, and extending backwards, unless following his direct opponent.
Impeding a player while he is advancing the ball as part of measuring out a previous 50-metre penalty.

Sydney kicked three goals in 4 minutes when Cox went in to the ruck. In that time he lost 4 ruck contests. One went straight to the Swans, the kick went to Logan McDonald who goaled. Right at the very death Cox, with 28 seconds left contested the throw in and double fisted it straight to Blakey who cleared the ball.
Game over.

I legit don't understand this sentence sorry.

After an outside five, protected area or over the mark transgression was committed then the interpretation is what it is, and if you decide a transgression was committed it would be easy to say it's 25m instead of 50m.

Changing it from 50m to 25m is a simple directive that doesn't rely on an interpretation. I'm saying what you're saying.

But if you want trouble I can easily just agree with Bulldog Joe and start picking on you.

I'm hoping Adelaide are saving themselves for the Showdown and then beat the living suitcase out of Port, for a Port loss in the last round.

If we win all three it's a fifteen win season and already a massive improvement on last year after substantial change at the club. With that sort of form and momentum that comes from a new vibe we enter the finals with a great formline.

Even we deranged softies still love seeing bombers lose the unloseable and long may this continue. Merret should come play for us too, that would be delightfully delicious.

We could have had him, we gave them the pick (26?) for him.

We got Crameri. Pretty sure it was the Bont draft.

Agree, there are some good members at every club. I’ve got a dear bomber friend who used to go to games, but now only keeps eye on score and doesn’t even watch on tv. Pays up membership every year. Was turned off the game by Hird fiasco and harm to players, Dr Reid etc.
I had an ex-teammate who switched to the Bulldogs post-supplement saga. Like, he's a member, full support, etc.
Good timing.

Carlton have been jumped by Hawthorn. What is going wrong there?

Just switched it on, Hawks look like a top 4 team. They'll be dangerous in September.

Gee Carlton are slow even before the injuries.
If carlton hang in to make finals whoever plays them it’s a bye.

Hawthorn is THE form team…their 2 losses in last 12-13 games were by under a goal I think.
Carlton look slow.
Hawks are playing free spirited footy…they are enjoying it.

What has happened to Carlton, they are being smashed.

A few more goals and Hawks in 8 and Carlton out.

Edit; Hawks need to win by 65 points. Currently up by 54

Hawks keys look their weakness.

Chol and Frost! Siciliy is their best and he's my height (188 or something).

Meek is a good average ruckman.

Bruest and Gunstan are ancient.

Not sure how a bunch of smart arse mid size and small players are pulling off this form to be honest.

They have Richmond and North to finish the year

We won a Premiership without great key position players, they're working well to a good strong game style, they attack both ways offensively and defensively and look to be working their arses off, no one wants to play them in finals.

Isn’t it nice to see 9th, Carlton 10th, Essendon and 11th Collingwood

D'Ambrosio is such a key player for the Hawks...lethal left footer who transitions the ball from the back line to the forward line. Rarely misses a target.

I guess Bruest and Gunstan want to play finals for 1 more time before they retire.

What a weekend of footy. The 3 big clubs outside of the 8: Essendon, Carlton and Collingwood.

Scoot seemed to be trying to hold back his rage at the post-game conference with Essendon. If Dodo is really gone, there could be a some players chopped at end of season.

Fremantle continue to disappoint. Top 4 begging and they failed again.

Hawks are the form team of the comp. We were 3-5 after 8 rounds, Brisbane were terrible early on.

Shows how long a season is and being the best team all year is very different to being the best team when it matters.

Hawthorn will be no pushovers if they make the 8. They are fit. They run in waves when they have the ball and when they don't have it. They apply a lot of pressure and they don't turn it over when they have it.

Of all the teams, they are the one I least want to play in Melbourne. I think the bigger MCG plays into their hands against us- I think we will struggle to manage their speed on spread.

Houston out is a big loss for Port. Can?t see him getting less than 4-5, but will they apply the invisible ?finals discount? and bump it down a little to make him available for the big dance if they make it?

From the Vision I saw he didnt hit his head and also looked to try and stop.
He might not get as many weeks as people say.
Head hitting the ground is what will get him.

Zero chance - if you elect to bump, you wear the consequences. He's gone for 5+

That's a 5 weeker. He won't play again this season. Rankine was out cold.

Agree. Also, when you hear Kane Cornes say he thinks it is 4+ when it is someone from Port, you know it has to be bad.
