Apparently Callum Mills has just been ruled out of the GF. On form they aren't actually missing much - he was just going since his return. I wonder if that opens the door for Taylor Adams to come in, or will they go Robbie Fox as a more versatile sub/option instead?

It will depend on if they want defensive support in Fox or midfield impact which could be Taylor Adams.
Brisbane biggest weapons are in the forward half of the ground. I think they would go in with No Change and keep Fox as the sub.

I agreed with you (I think it was you anyway) on playing him being a free hit, because either he does his string again immediately or was probably gonna be fine, but apparently Swans have some pretty bad PTSD from playing unfit guys in 2016 and 2022.
But yeah OMac is a much bigger out.

I said that about Oscar Mac and him popping his shoulder again, which goes to show how little I know about footy. I thought they could just load him up with elephant juice and pop it back in again - easy for me to say!

I think if Oscar Mac didn't pop out his shoulder the second time they may well have taken the risk.

I was kinda hoping Swans win as I don?t like Dunkley (for unknown reasons I didn?t warm to him that much even when he played for us, and especially so after he wanted out to bummers). Also the whole Hawks alleged racism saga make me a bit meh about Brissy coach.
However I really like Daniher who seems to have a happy go lucky attitude with good sportsmanship and is fun to watch when not playing us. Also most of the Lions players seem reasonably likeable.
Also think Heeney appears to be a really good role model/bloke too, plus an out and out gun player, a bit like our Bont.
Great for Fitzroy & South Melbourne fans to have an exciting week too. So I?m now hoping it?s a good, tough, high skilled GF without a blowout (if it is to be one of those one sided affairs hope it?s Swans), and am not too fussed who wins.
Interested to hear which team, if any, woofers are gonna barrack for & why?

Not Brisbane. Yes Dunkley is there but more importantly Fagan in there. Swans are deserving winners this year. Might stop bitching about 2016 if they win too

Prediction time....
Swans by 10 points after being behind all day.
I reckon the Lions are the better side however they've come from fifth and it's impossible to win from outside the top 4.
Grundy will own Fort too.
Norm : Heeney
FG : Joe!

Sydney are such sooks and for one of the most advantaged teams going around they love to talk about how hard done by they are. Plus Papley.
So Brisbane I guess.
However, Fagan and Zorko make it hard. And I do think the idea of Dunkley having 3 GF losses to his name is appealing.

Interesting stat
Luke Parker: this will be his 5th GF, but has only 1 Medal
Dunkely: This will be his 4th GB, but has only 1 medal.
Really hard to get into one, instead of 4 or 5! But win a GF, is near impossible!
Not sure which player is more likely atm.

Flew back to Australia this morning and transiting through Sydney, obvious lot of swans supporters on board, but a lot with the price tags still attached to all their gear.
Been on the fence about who to go for. Brisbane has more punchable players, swans more punchable supporters.
Maybe a draw and during extra time the lights break?

I only watched it casually on & off but from bits I saw Grundy looked ok. Did Fort go close to evens at centre & around ground, and/or was it that Lions mids sharked Grundy’s taps? From what I could see Grundy got it to Swans mids enough but they fumbled or looked very slow & were overwhelmed by Lions mids. It’s like the Swans mids had eaten a stodgy pie before the game. Also Swans’ forwards were so putrid.

Can't believe Sydney lost with Grundy being so dominant in the ruck. :)
Brisbane just had them on toast on the outside, incredibly bad performance across the ground from the Swans. That's the type of performance that should see the coach and the players absolutely lambasted. No excuses for it, at all.
Not at all shitty about Dunkley winning a premiership, would maybe have been last year but he's dead to me. Happy not to have Bloods Culture gushing in my face for six months. They're establishing a culture alright.......by and by.

It's crazy to look at the smaller to medium forward half attacking options in the Brisbane side versus ours, and then contemplate that a ****wit like Cornes could possibly suggest we have the best list in the game.
Imagine having all of Berry, Bailey, Rayner, Cameron, Ah Che, McCluggage and Lohman at your disposal. Put that against Weightman, VDM, McNeil, Harmes and Gallagher, which are who we essentially fronted up with against Hawthorn.
Chalk and cheese, and indicative of where we're going to continue to struggle.

I'm not saying English has been good in a final. I'm saying if he played like Fort did today he'd have been pilloried.
My view is ruck numbers and influence is almost always largely overstated depending on the outcome of the game. I'm on record as saying that outside of 2022 and this year there have been mitigating issues with Tim's finals performances, and that's on the club, but his past two finals have been ordinary and unacceptable.
I'm was also the first around here or one of who suggested we should have taken on Grundy when we had the chance. I've been clear in how Tim needs to be handled and how he needs to improve. I also don't get caught up in who should or shouldn't be our first ruck or whether Tim should be second ruck. Everyone knows the latter is true, but what's the point in worrying about something that isn't going to happen?
But I can't dress up Fort's performance beyond it being relatively serviceable just to shit on Tim. Again, Tim would have been shat on if he put up what Fort put up today, even if he did walk away with a premiership medal. It's just how it is.

Grundy was fine, certainly didn't dominate but also not even remotely the reason why they lost.
Second quarter stats:
Brisbane 7.4 to Sydney 1.2
Gulden 3 disposals
Warner 3 disposals
Blakey 3 disposals
Heeney 7 disposals at 50%
Grundy 9 disposals, 7 hitouts
Meanwhile
Neale 9 disposals
Ashcroft 9 disposals
Dunkley 6 disposals
Lohmann 7 disposals, 1.0
Ah Chee 4 disposals, 2.0
Lions only had four players with 3 or less disposals in the second quarter. Swans had 3 of their best and most important playmakers offering nothing. Grundy did all he could but the midfield and forward line were dominated from the start.

The belief IMO all came off the back last years GF, it was the first time during Fagan's reign that the Lions were more than just out the back flat track bullies.
They played sensational against the pies and backed it up again and this time against an inferior opponent, I'm happy for them they deserved it just for consistency across 6 years of footy but they were more than that yesterday.
The small high half forwards were at it again woofers, they have so much quality in that space If only Lohman made it to the kennel off the back of the Dunkley trade. Plenty of food for thought for us in this space and I'm sure Hannaford and Berry will be high up on the board come draft night.
While I'm on Dunkley he has changed their midfield, has added substance no doubt we just haven't seen the lions apply pressure like that and I think he lead it all finals series while Ashcroft become the cherry on top.

This is also the second time, after the Bulldogs in '16, that a club has beaten Sydney for the flag after coming from outside the top four.
It will put renewed focus on the pre-finals bye, introduced in 2016. As the Lions built up a head of steam with three-straight games ahead of the Grand Final, Sydney had the week off after winning their qualifying final.

Sydney and cats get a great home ground advantage but so do other interstate sides.
Sydney got a leg up with academy picks and Geelong has the COLA(cotton on living allowance).

Buddy & Roughy kicked 3.7 in the 2012 GF in a 10 point loss. They kick straight (alone, Hawks blew their chances) and Swans lose that too. On top of the last four losses by 57 points on average.
Maybe they’re just not made/coached/set up for the big game? It’s one thing to get there and another to win. They’ve had incredible players over the period too. It’s not a cheap shot, per se, but the Geelong sides that lost four with GAS and a host of very good players couldn’t get it done either. Some good sides historically just couldn’t get the job done when it mattered.

Brisbane 13th prior to finals, finding form thereafter, Sydney sitting pretty until being exposed by us, Hawks and ultimately and badly in the GF.

Best part about this pre-finals bye HORSE shit that Leigh Matthews has now jumped on with sycophant Bartel is the Swans actually lost the first week in 2016 and never had another break.
The reality is their form was poor for the latter part of the season and they took injured players into the GF.

Heeney post-GF injury news is the ultimate losers limp. There was no talk of this in the first 2 finals (he had the same injury in both games) where he was literally the difference-maker in the end result. I suppose Longmire referencing this was to publicly protect his marquee player who played yet another sub-par GF, but it reflects poorly on him to highlight this so quickly in the post-match presser. He should have said something like "we had some sore boys but so did Brisbane, so no excuses whatsoever" instead of going into specifics on Heeney.
Neale and Hipwood have been carrying significant injuries for months and simply got it done.
