Been thinking about this since last week.

Is Callan Ward the first secondary schoolboy to debut since Dustin Fletcher? I reckon either Fletcher of John Georgiou from St Kilda is the last schoolboy to debut. Can anyone think of any others?

Is it that rare that the last three go back 25 years?

Gee, i was thinking about this and it definately isn't a regular event.... goes back a few years, as most like to finish school these days, and concentrate soley on that for the year.

Can't believe Callan Ward is the same age as me, and playing AFL. Nice effort!

I think Ben Hart was still at school when he made his debut for the Crows.
It probably doesn't happen so much these days, because players have to be at least 18 years old on/before June 30 the year after they're drafted (I think that's the rule isn't it?), and a lot of them may have already finished school.

This is going back a fair way but Tim Watson was also a schoolboy IIRC.

Isn't Fraser Gehrig still at school? Don't knock him, form 3 is tough...

Tom Hawkins might have been in year 12 at Geelong Grammar last year as well, not sure on him though. Correction, Hawkins completed year 12 in 2006

Dont knock it kid. Before you know it you'll realise you're so old that Callan's mums older brother was in the same class as you at Footscray High 25 years ago.:o

Correct. Primary school-I think he was 11 years old when he debuted.

What about Luke Ball?

Thought the Saints allowed him to play school footy for a year after drafting him.

Isn't Patrick Dangerfield at school.

Could be a chance when they play in Victoria next.

Another correction. He was at Melbourne Grammar not Geelong Grammar. Although his mum and 2 sisters went to Geelong College(We could have done with the boy and not 2 girls on our footy team). Not that it's relevant the slightest.

You had 2 girls on your footy team? That would make tackling practice more fun.

I got to captain the school cricket team once. We lost to the girls. Didnt matter that they were State champs and we lost in the first round-I was never called upon to be captain again.

So you can sympathise with Gia after the NAB Cup last year?

Jumpin Jack Hawkins always said the eldest daughter would have been a great footballer. Which is funny...but also a little strange because he didn't smile while saying it(mentioned it a few times). I think he was a little disappointed she was a girl. Anyway, look out for Charlie Hawkins, he'd be about 9 now...I'm sure Jack has him carbo loading already.
