Ok, the Bulldogs have commissioned you to pick 5 players only from any of the other 15 teams to join the Dogs in 2009.

Mine are -

1. Jonathon Brown
2. Matthew Pavlich
3. Luke Hodge
4. Gary Ablett Jnr
5. Brett Kirk

Who would you pick?

Those 5 might just squeeze into the salary cap, pity you have to delist everyone else to fit them in! ;)

In no particular order

1) Gary Ablett jnr (he and Cooney would be sensational in the middle)
2) Matthew Pavlich
3) Dean Cox
4) Nick Riewoldt
5) Nathan Bock

A top class onballer in Ablett, a FF in Pav, a CHF in Riewoldt, the best ruckman in the comp in Cox and Bock as a key defender.
I'd be tempted to go with Franklin instead of Riewoldt.

Looking towards the next 5 years..

1. Ablett Jr (pure class - and brownlow medalist-to-be)
2. Buddy Franklin (anyone who will kick 100 goals is welcome at my club)
3. Dean Cox (Who wouldnt want the best ruckman in the comp)
4. Nathan Bock (In career form and only 25)
5. Joel Selwood aswell.. (Just excites a team, and has played so well for a youngin)

Matthew Scarlett
John Brown
Matthew Pavlich
Garry Ablett
Dean Cox

All great players but Brown aside, are they really deficient parts of our team? For Scarlett we have Lake/Harris, Pav is covered by the likes of Hahn/Murph, Ablett plays the same role that Coons and Griff do, and for Cox, Huddo and Minnow aren't really a deficiency as such, are they?

Not saying that I wouldn't want to pick them up though!

With Ablett, can you ever have too many quick, skillful and consistent ball winners?

Was thinking the same as you with Pav/Cox

1. Buddy Franklin
2. Nathan Bock
3. Jason Porplyzia
4. Shannon Hurn
5. Joel Patfull

I went for a few different names. Patfull is like a Morris type. Franklin as a quick/agile forward, would fit in perfectly with our open, small moving target forward line. Bock is a gun utility who can basically play anywhere, Porplyzia a hard at it, small midfielder/forward with great hands. Hurn a booming kick, strong bodied, defender/midfielder/forward.

Not out an out stars (besides Buddy) - but guys who would do a job and add a lot to the mix.

i can't believe most of you haven't picked buddy?

i think you need to pick 5 players that would suit our type of game.

1. buddy
2. ablett
3. goodes
4. jonathan brown
5. chapman

i haven't really picked any defenders but i would re-shuffle the side around a bit.
goodes could play as a hbf running defender, bob murphy could also play in defence to allow chapman in. Brown in the goalsquare taking minsons role.
buddy leading up to 50. ablett in the middle.

There wouldn't be a side that would come close.

Why would we move Murph to defence to let Chapman have a game? Murph is by far the better CHF in that sense. In the vein of this post, wouldn't we rather then recruit a gun CHB rather than move Murph there for an inferior player?

Oh, right, we already have Tommy Gun and Everest in the CHB roles.

No Chappie for me.

Deficiencies/fantasy players to recruit - upcoming players that will fill the void in time anyway

A. 50 goal a year presence in the goalsquare: J.Brown - Jarrad Grant
B. Top-line wingman: Goodes - Hill/Ray
C. Classy KP utility/back-up full-back: Bock/Roughhead - Tommygun, Everest
D. Cover for pending retirements in the next few years (West/Aker/Welsh/Johnno): Foley/Deledio/Cyril Rioli/Cloke - Ward, Reid/O'Keefe/Grant/Harbrow

While most of my fantasy names would be nice, with the exception of J.Brown and Bock/Roughhead I think we have recruited very well with needs in mind and will have cover in most areas. Grant's development will be key, but he will not be able to cover for the loss of Welsh AND fill the need that Minnow is admirably filling at the moment, so a nice big full-forward will be nice. And we are just one injury (Lake/Harris) away from the backline structure struggling, so a classy KP utility like Bock will potentially be the one-size-fits-all answer to our needs in both goalsquares (as he can also play forward).

So, perfect fantasy player to pick up: Nathan Bock.

How old is the bloke?

Buddy would be the leading CHF. Then Chapman would do what he does.
