In the email I got from the club it had this to say:
Special HERITAGE Guernsey Available Now
The Western Bulldogs players will be donning the Heritage Guernsey and shorts this week and YOU too can have this special edition Guernsey.
$110 - Adults / $75 - Youth
Here is what the jumper looks like. You can buy it from the club shop on the website.

Strange, I thought that they had gotten rid of the heritage jumpers for this year.

Trouble is which era are they representing. Over the year we have had many different jumpers:

A tough one isn't it?
The stripes look smaller than previous 50's heritage jumpers we've gotten around in before, I think it's actually closer to the actual 50's jumper we wore (looking at photos of EJ and the like from this era anyway) I might get it anyway (and then hide it from my wife - if she finds out I've bought this after having a top she'd say 'looks exactly the same' she'll flip! :))

While I love that guernsey I don't suppose there is any mention of why we're wearing it. I didn't think it was heritage round. Maybe they have a heap of old stock they're trying to get rid of.

The club is wrong.
It's round 19, it's called the Tom Wills Round. Old Scoth play Geelong Grammer, Melb play Geelong, and it is heritage round as well.
Here's a link to the fixture - http://www.afl.com.au/Portals/0/afl_docs/AFL_Fixture2008.pdf

They've been advertising Tom Wills round all week on tv, so they must have brought it forward. Clearly the fixture is evidence enough to support Aker 39's contention - strange one

Pay TV or free to air.
I haven't seen any ads on free to air for it.

Does this mean Carlton will be using their original design of navy blue featuring a big bag with a dollar sign on it? And will their former presidents wear a white outfit with blue arrows on it and a ball and chain, the away strip as it were? (Sorry I'm labouring the gag a little)

Black shorts??

We've worn this one - or ones very similar - the past few times. Although the basis of it is a decent jumper, of which I have (the 54/04 thing) I'd like to see us wear something different.
I suppose this one's a little different with the stitching and certainly black shorts though. I can't say I'm a fan of what looks above, but it's alright for one week - I quite like seeing the older jumpers brought out once a season.

On the website it says that we are wearing the jumper because it would have been Ted Whitten's 75th birthday this week
LostDoggy

It may have somthing to do with this.
On the day club legend EJ Whitten would have celebrated his 75th birthday, the 2008 Bulldogs will take to the field in a replica uniform that EJ wore as he graced the turf of the Western Oval in the 50’s and 60’s.

Good question - pay tv I imagine, I watch very little free to air (that sounds awfully elitist - I'm not, I just like Simpons, Family Guy & Fox Sport Channels too much)
Bill Hunter is in the ads (quality)

otherwise it would have probably been a clash jumper (I won't start) and I do reckon this jumper more closely reflects the 50/60's era jumper than the heritage ones we've worn previously (red & white hoops skinnier) I'm convinced I'm going to get one now.

Which jumper do you like? I actually like the current one but with a royal blue, not so bright as the current one.

That makes sense. This was used in 1946 - to 50 and 1952 to 1970. 1951 jumper was slightly different, ie with no blue between the red and white.

Totally agree, the royal blue gives the jumper a more classy (classic) look as well as linking it to the club most successful period. :)

Just wondering if we will wear the same jumper for EJ's 75th birthday this round as well as when Tom Wills round rolls around in round 19?

Just saw the Tom Wills round ad again - it hasn't been brought forward, they're just promoting in advance.
Not sure what era that round will represent. Looking forward to seeing the jumper (and buying it) Sunday

Pay TV is elitist? Boy we have a low estimation of the 'elite' in this country. Cable and Pay TV is the bastion of middle-class entertainment, and as low-brow as it possibly gets, as Fox "News" (and I use that term loosely) attests to.
I really can't imagine any true 'elites' coming down out of their ivory towers to watch the Discovery Channel now, can you?

Well I liked the jumper and the shorts today. It was a good change. I'd prefer to see the red and white stripes a fair bit thicker though.

I know I'm getting old and the eyes aren't what they were, but I had massive problems trying to work out who was who.
And the clown who decided we should wear black shorts when their major colour is navy blue deserves a kick up the arse.

Evidently it is a fair reflection of the middle class entertained, I'm watching.
My family gives me sheet for constantly referring to Foxtel when they don't have it, was just tyring to save that sort of response. Whatever

I totally agree. It was all good that each team wore different coloured shorts, but it didn't help that the black shorts were so similar to the navy blue tops of carlton, especially when the carlton players had their jumpers untucked.

I battled a bit from L3 occasionally because of the shorts. I'm certain Cooney did as well at one stage!

Agreed. Twice Cooney spotted up a Carlton player by foot where there was no Bulldog target within cooee - I find it hard to believe they were both skill errors of monumental proportions. Griffen also handballed directly to a Carlton player as if he was a teammate running to receive.
This whole clash jumper issue has been appallingly handled by city hall. There should be two away strips per team, and they should both be substantially different from the opposition on the day. It's not rocket science.

Same here. A few times I thought we were away after a quick handball only to realise it was in fact a Carlton player we dished it off too.

Personally I loved the black short / vintage guernsey combo.
I also agree it was confusing for the players. What about Farren Ray hand balling straight to Murphy running into an open goal? I think we could be the first club to reclaim the black short tradition. Only worn against appropriate teams of course. And only in home games where the other team has to wear white.
I wish that was our permanent jumper too and just stick with it forever from here on in.

I take it you were watching on TV?
Just out of picture was a Bulldog player waiting for the ball. Ray's handball would have gone to him. That wasn't a jumper clash mistake, Ray simply didn't see Murphy coming in from the side.
I saw the replay on the screen and it looked like Ray meant to handball to Murphy, he didn't.
