All the more reason for us to come away with a win this friday. I get the feeling this will turn into the biggest upset of the year.

He certainly hasn't aged at all since then, but he sure as hell has grown up.
Interesting stat: we have won 1 of our past 1 games where a player has played his 150th game:D

Our milestone game was the week before v Collingwood. It was all emotional with us needing to win to get Smith a 300th the next week.
The West Coast game was always going to be a big letdown.

I thought he got front and centre, about 15-20 metres out from goal on the end of the Adelaide Oval thats on the left of your TV screen
Regardless if we win it will be the biggest milestone victory of my lifetime

No, it was a handball over the top from Granty.

Yep, it pissed down rain all night. Grant put on a clinic for all the Adelaide feral's (not including the fine poster's on this forum from SA), think he kicked 5.

Wasnt it @ Football Park vs the Crows as well?
I went to a meet the players function after the game
Some little kid came up to me and said "Hello how are you"
I said "sorry mate; i have no idea who you are"
He said "Daniel"
Lucky I had read something about Giansiracusa a few days before re growing up in Altona etc etc, had a long chat, was a really nice young guy. Always had a warm spot for him ever since!
ALso made a point of chasing him down (after his first game; also in Adelaide) and saying hello again.
But he didnt remember me, much to my mates glee :D

Grant kicked 5 in one quarter (the second); he has since described it as the best quarter of his life
PS we have discussed this games many times before
PPS I can't remember that it rained
PPPS a Crows Feral hit me in the back of my head with his thermos as he was going home at half time

I thought Gia this week was fantastic, one of the best games I have ever seen him play. He went in very hard in the first quarter and had racked up 22 disposals by half time. I read some where he may even have cracked ribs.
Come on posters some praise for Gia, he is usually the first to be bagged by many of our supporters and I haven't read that much praise for him after the Adelaide game, even though he was voted second best on field.

I agree he is always first to be put down but I thought on friday he showed his hardness in packs and really stepped in for Boyd so that the side did not miss him at all

I think Gia showed (again) that it is not due to lack of application that he doesn't rack up more possessions, but because of the role he normally plays when Boydy is in the side and he isn't asked to go in and get the ball himself.
He is such a smart player, and would be an elite onballer if he was played there, but he is too valuable as a distributor to let him get hammered in the clinches. I'm a massive Gia fan. Always have been.

Wel, I'll put my hand up as someone who can be less than flattering in my assessment of Gia.
Daniel stood tall on Friday night and won the contested ball and played an inside mid role I've not seen him often do. Gia set the win up from the stoppages - we needed someone to play Boyd's role and who would have thought it would be Gia - not me that's for sure.
I am currently eating my hat and happy to do it: well played Gia!

I didn't expect him to play that role either, so kudos also goes to the coaching staff.

his hardness stepped up admirably in the absence of Boydy. Keep it going Gia this week he needs to lead from the front in a truly big game

The question begs, could Gia spend more time in this role?
Could he share it with Boyd and swap positions on the field.

Quite a few on this site have lamented out lack of running depth so I don't see why we can't throw Gia in a few times a match to increase the depth of our midfield rotations.

Correct me if I'm wrong .
Can't remember the year , I saw him at Subi oval against Freo in a Pre-season cup match, believe it washis first run.
Schell took one of the all-time great hangers for freo and went down-hill from then on.

Thought he would make it but his AFL career seemed like it was over before it started but he is still kicking around for Centrals in the SANFL. Has been excellent for them and can play forward or back. Would have about a zillion premierships too.

I mentioned in my (4) votes that I think his role change should be permanent. I don't care what we need to do to make it happen - send Cross to defense, make Higgins the forward assist specialist, drop Ward/Picken/Moles etc.
The game he played on Friday was better than anything I can remember from he or Boyd.
The thread I started a couple of weeks ago lamenting his lack of involvement was perhaps misdirected at Gia himself, and should have been targeted at the coaching staff to make this move earlier
It's a very similar argument to discussing where Griff should play - put simply, you want your best players involved in the play the most.
I think I'll spew up if I see 15 possessions and 1 goal from him again on Friday. It's like waiting until day 2 before bringing Glenn McGrath into the attack.

Gia is our cleanest ball user in traffic so I can't say I'm surprised.
Unfortunately in football whatever a player does in their first season will stick.
Gibbs shirked a contest once in his debut year and the reputation has unfairly stuck, and I think the same is the case with Gia. He goes when he has to and is willing to take a hit if it means disposing the ball cleanly, but people tend to ignore that.

Interesting bump BAD.
I think with Gia, is that most supporters believe he should be capable of turning in performances like he did on Friday night, more consistently. We know he's good in congestion, he makes good decisions and his ball use by foot and hand is very good. We know he's a leader, and is apparently one of the hardest working players on the track. Because of all that, we expect a lot from him, and when he doesn't deliver he is given a bit of stick (which is warranted some of the time, but some of the things you read written about him are quite off the mark).
At this stage of his career, I expect consistent, high standard performances from Gia on a weekly basis. We expect that of Griff, we expect that of Cooney, we expect that of Higgins - so I think it's fair enough that we expect that of the more senior player, in Gia.
Hopefully as a result of his performance on the weekend we can see his role redefined so he is able to spend more time in the guts, and continue to influence games in the manner in which we know he can.

Also eating my words.
I have been very critical of Gia lately.
Best way to to shut someone up is to have a blinder.
And that he did.
Another one this week please.
Also, Cooney, Griffen, Cross and Higgins.

Why? Because of your supercoach team?
If Gia's role is on a flank and he gets 15 touches, 1 goal and a few goal assists he will have more than done his job.
Dogz-21

But we should utilize his ability and give me more midfield time as others have said our running depth was questioned, particularly against Collingwood, with Gia as yet another midfield rotation this problem shoul be lessened.
LostDoggy
28-04-2010, 02:49 PM
The reason that Gia plays that forward role cause it is prob the hardest position to play on the ground and he does it better then anyone else does, Therefore for team balance he must play there instead of midfield. Could you imagine Cross, Boyd, Picken or Ward playing the Gia role up forward? They would stink and cop a bagging on this forum. IMO only Gia and Higgo are smart enough to play his role
