RETIRED Western Bulldogs champion Scott West has chosen emerging forward Shaun Higgins as the player who will wear his famous No. 7 guernsey next season.
West, who called an end to his decorated career in September after 324 games, mentored Higgins in his early days at Whitten Oval.
"He's helped Higgo along for the last couple of years and Higgo's a good young kid who's hard at it," assistant coach Leon Cameron said on Thursday.
"He's got a lot of natural ability and he's starting to realise he's got to work pretty hard like a Scott West to get to where he's got to get to.
"I think Westy sees that in him, so that's a good choice."
Higgins has played 32 games since his 2006 debut, but added just seven this year after breaking his ankle in round two.
He has worn guernsey No. 19 for the last three years.
West will be a part-time assistant coach at Melbourne in 2009 after accepting a position late last week.

Good choice.
Hopefully Higgins can actually have an injury free year, he's been very unlucky to date. He was pretty impressive in the last two Finals, hopefully he can continue on.

I think that higgins is a great choice for the number 7. Hopefully we will see him play every match in 2009.

Great chioce do the jumper proud Missy
OK. Can we now officially BURN the cursed number 19 in the centre of the Oval?
No supporter would be against this. Please. It should never be allocated to a player EVER again.

How about showing some respect to Gary Merrington.

Higgins with number 7 mmm I see a bit of Doug Hawkins in his movement at times.
And Darren Stanley and Zeno Tzatzaris!
Burn the jumper. Number 19 should NEVER be seen again...it has already led to 2 broken bones for young Shaun - please - let's prevent any further damage!

Sockeye probably wants to hand it to Cameron Wight.

I wish no ill will on Cam Wight. It's just he no more belongs on an AFL list than I do.

Makes it an interesting thought, we had posted before the best performed jumper numbers, i wonder which are the worst?
19 is the worst. Burn it. Burn it.

Gee the club didnt think much of Higgins then looking at that list, "Here you go son, no idea who has worn this before but its getting dusty throw it on"
On the upside at least he doesnt feel he has big shoes to fill.

That jumper stinks to high heaven,
Always thought Terry Love would make it though. He was amazing playing for Spotswood.
And as soon as Higgins is in another jumper the better. I regard him as one of the thoroughbreds on our list. Up there with Cooney, Griffen and Skipper.

Just as Bob showed us from the first time he ran out that he could really play this game I think the same for Shauny (not missy bloody higgins, he's not a flamin poof ya know as alf stewart would say).
Time - in buckets
Balance - (Robert Harvey's hips) put simply KEEPS HIS FEET. The amount of times the ball can be won purely by keeping your is invaluable.
Speed - not the quickest but refer to the previous points.
Goals - knows where they are,can and does finish.
Melon (a little too ben cousins but can't be helped)
