In 1983 (21-May-1983) Footscray played Fitzroy in the centenary match out at Waverly Park in front of 22,336 fans. It was never billed as the match of the century or given the publicy of a Carlton, Collingwood match.
Here are some memories of the game I have scanned friom the Footy Record that I kept.
Scores:
Footscray: 6.3 10.4 15.9 22.13 145
Fitzroy: 2.5 5.11 9.16 13.21 99

Good old Al he lived with me for 2-3 years, along with Darren Grant if anyone remembers him.

Ian Williams (5) and Brian Royal (33) are the other players. Royal front and centre of the marking contest as usual.

Does anyone remember the player Anderson? I can remember all the other players but not him.

Robert Anderson from Canberra. From memory he had two stints with us.
Something else I noticed is that their entire half back line ended up at the bulldogs in one way or another.

Yep, sure is. He's the only one who actually played in the backline-I dunno why Galaxy or Ossie were named there.

I went to that match but can't remember a thing about the game. The only thing I remember was I took my wife along and she was bugging me the whole match for a thick shake. I finally went and got her one and within minutes of giving it to her, it was all over her jeans:D

So your single now, or you refuse to buy her milkshakes?

That photo of Alastair Ford was used on the 1984 Season Tickets.

The Fitzroy Football Club retains possession of the Darlington Investments Cup pictured on the front of the footy record although I think they lent it to the MCC Library for display.

If we won the game how come they have the trophy?
It's not like we have such a massive number of trophys that we can afford to be careless with them.
