As we are on sponsors, can anyone think or come up with all our major sponsors over the years and when sponsors really started taking over naming rights?
I remember Pyrox was one, that would have been late 70s i think.

Actually ICI might have been our first big one.
They were pretty good to us over the years and i think they got taken over, thats why they didnt continue.

Vodafone (99-01) and the 05 TAC campaign circa 88-89 were others.

That'd be 'Orica'...they're a big chemicals and mining mob.

I think you'll find ICI became Orica. The business that had once been into chemicals and explosives transmogrified and Orica was created. ICI / Orica were our sponsors directly after the failed 1989 merger. They were with us for some years but when Smorgo came to power or shortly thereafter he said they were not paying enough as our major sponsor. I think he expected them to kick in a bit more, but they walked away, amicably it has always been claimed.

East Coast and ICI spring to mind.

The tie up with Eastcoast was through a former player who was either an executive with them or a partner. He had, blond hair, I can see the head in my mind's eye but the name won't come. At one stage they offered the players a big cash incentive to win games and make the finals.

Robert Percy was an executive with Eastcoast IIRC.
He played a few senior games in the late 60s. I think he's your man.

Was 'Go West' one of our sponsors in the mid to late eighties?

I'm sure I recall them sponsoring us

Does anyone remember us being sponsored by KB Draught. Shocking gear.

Pyrox was the first I can remember. The players even "starred" in some TV ads for Pyrox.

Apart from a song by The Pet Shop Boys and The Village People it really isnt anything. The club just sort of made it up before the '83 season when we still didnt have a major sponsor and after a good start to season on the field and lot's of publicity Eastcoast jumped on board abot four or five rounds in.

Mid-Metal were also the major sponsor at the same time as Pyrex and they were our first ever jumper/main sponsor between them. They were added to the jumper about May or June in 1978 not very long before the game we kicked 33.15-213 V St Kilda in.

You're thinking of Nola Sherwell.

She once had a chihuahua named Beaser.

Found this:

'Another supporter was 79-year-old Nola Sherwell, who was there with her jersey-clad chihuahua. She has been a member of the club since she was 5 years old and has survived 3 other chihuahuas who all accompanied her to games.'

That in all probability was a little league jumper, seeing they were sponsored by Big M.

sure was, I got a pie and big M given to me for kicking a goal with my only kick in the little league in 1980 against Richmond at VFL park. (I still have the footy record with my name in it)

Sure did, the club came up with the idea and sold the cloth badges for $10.00 each They also sold heaps of local sponsorship to the Western Suburbs Companies and raised the required funds, I think from memory Noel Delbridge had something to do with it.
