I'm guessing you got Cooney in the last half of the year. In the first half he averaged about 120 points. As Hujsh said, Ablett was just in another SC class last year, and there is usually one player like that, the year before Bartel dominated in SC (his brownlow year).

Heath Shaw was a good defender for me last year, and Griffin seems cheap.
Heath Shaw scored points when he was picking up cheap possies running around the backline, but the points dried up when teams wised up and started tagging him with a forward. He never quite found out how to break it so his points were pretty dismal in the second half of the year (which is reflected in his price this year).

Heath Shaw was the main reason I didn't win a game in the last half of last year - he was crap!

I too had Heath last year and while he was good for most it is like everyone saw, tag him and it's over. I believe this won't be easy to shake as he's never had to work for it, so where is that going to come from. Not picking such an easily tagged player again:), I hope.

Just selected my side...hopefully I start better than last year, where I think I lost the first 8 games straight. Still managed to creep into the finals, but those early rounds are crucial, because no one really knows who is going to have a break out season, who'll get a long term injury etc.
Anways, a bit of fun.

I came out really strong and then started fading, too many injuries and not enough dollars for better players. I think some of the top priced players usually start to get cheaper after a couple of bad games, and you can trade up for them if you have managed to pick some smokies that improve rapidly.
The year before I had the good fortune to pick Rodan who I had always liked and I made a killing on him, same with Rioli last year. Not too sure who to pick out of the young players this year.

Someone hasn't been paying attention. What went wrong was just about the worst knee injury I can remember. ACL tear, knee discolation and I think a break in the knobbly bit at the top of his lower leg.
He's lucky he can walk let alone play footy.

I wasn't aware of the knee dislocation/break in the knee. I remember him doing the ACL though, it looked very nasty and was at a terrible time from an individuals point of view.
Did it all happen in the one, or did he sustain some of the other injuries after the ACL?
Bad news, I liked watching him play. Is he even able to train?

Blue Chip Investment
Daniel Cross - Super reliable midfielder who won the 4th most disposals in the comp 2008. #5 For Hardball Gets #7 For Tackles Averaged 105 lat year well worth $546,100
Bank Em
Cooney - Brownload Medalist will cost $575,600 but price soared to $620,000 by end of last season
Lindsay Gilbee - Led AFL effective kicks last year and averaged 98 supercoach points, safe bet at $526,100
Buy Em (I had these 2 as my first must haves)
Shaun Higgins - $223,400 ($100,000 under 2008 starting price) and available as midfield or forward
Jarrad Grant - Dogs draft pick in 2007 - Will make his debut this year as a marking fwd and a bargin at $94,200
Bury Em
Brad Johnson: Was a supercoach star last year but injuries and age catching up, too high of a price tag at $468,100
Dale Morris: Brilliant defensive player who sacrifices his game for his team. Admirable, sure but no good in Supercoach too much for $390,600
Good little summary there, get the book to read more..or i can be bothered this weekend ill scan them into a couple of pages..each team etc.

So how did everyone do this first week of competition Supercoach? Surprised no one has brought it up already.
My team is only starting to recover from the idiocy of round 1 when the server was frozen, had no captain and couldn't change my team thus forced to keep essentially three non-scoring players in my 22. Finally getting the team I originally wanted (minus one player due to my own stupidity/carelessness in trading last week) and getting up to nearly 2300 now (2292 -- and if I had not made the mistake and actually clicked the player I wanted I would have gotten an extra 113 points).
No chance for the major prizes now, but should still be pretty fun playing against WOOFers!

Yup. Was already planning on getting rid of him (overpriced), but wasn't expecting him not to score at all this week!

I came 4th overall last year (*toot toot*) and am 448th at the moment. My cash cows are going but unfortunately a lot of premium players are struggling which is really bad for two reasons. Obviously it hurts my score but it also means the guns who are cheap to upgrade already belong to me. :(

Interesting little quirk according to Kevin Sheedy in the little paper today. If your player scores 0 (Brent Harvey & David Hille) then the computer assumes they did not play & your emergencies scores count instead.

After a promising start my team is starting to struggle.
I think I got less than 100 points combined from 4 players which makes it bloody hard. To make things worse I got rolled in my league by a good mate who's team is pathetic (doesn't say much about mine)
Atleast I had a win in the WOOF 2 league and sit 2nd on the ladder..... Yippee!!

Haha im shattered in that sense because Petrenko from Adelaide was on about -1 early 4th term, ended up with only 11pts. Would of preferred he stayed -1 or 0, then Emergency Jarrad Grant with 30 and wouldn't have lost by 9 measly points in one of my leagues

Very impressed. Must become your apprentice. Ended up around the 900th mark last year, my first year (less than 100 points from the winners, but that's an eternity in SuperCoach) and was pretty pleased, considering there were over 300,000 entries, but 4th is bloody impressive. What's the name of your team this year?

Yeah, sideways trades are the worst. So many sides waste trades on trading out one gun for another. Trades should only be used for long term injury replacements, cashing in cash cows and upgrading players.
I must say I had a shitload of luck last year (getting on Ablett, Harvey, Bartel etc at the right time) but if you do the right things you should finish top 500 or the like.

How do you go about picking your team?
Do you load up on guns and then fill out the rest with rookies? Looks for mid-priced players that can improve? What's your secret?

I really too many mid-level players as they don't average enough to stay in the side long term and don't make you much money when you're looking to upgrade.
If there's a rookie that I think will get a lot of games, get decent scores and make a bundle of cash I will get him, no matter how many rookies I have. I am starting 2 rookie centres at the moment.

Trumpet blowing time!
Okay, three (THREE!) non-scoring players in my 22, and 4 scoring below 50 (Jared Petrenko scored a measly 21!), but still broke the magical 2000 point barrier.
Two of my non-scorers were Leon Davis and Shaun Higgins, both who have been scoring pretty heavily in the past few weeks, so would have been pushing for a nice score.
Thank goodness for Selwood, Riewoldt and Steve Johnson (all 140+), Corey (130+) and Juddy and Coxy. Taylor Walker, Tom William's nemesis on the weekend, also did good as my only scoring emergency...
There have been a LOT of injuries this year haven't there?
LostDoggy
13-05-2009, 12:53 PM
Huh, I haven't won a game yet, and my total score is one of the best. It didn't help not having Higgins and Leon Davis in the weekend with Rance injured early and Hodge being terrible - I think I better stick to the Dream Team.:(

My first year of playing SuperCoach and I've been sucking! I keep getting so close to cracking 2000 points but just never get there! Now Bock is out this week and I don't know whether I should just leave him or replace him. I've already used 1 trade to bring Grimes in this week.

I plead guilty to the above crimes.
I'm looking to rearrange my midfield this week - getting in Gablett and Muston for Griffen and Rich. And then I'll have about 260k still leftover to upgrade Muston to Hodge later down the track so that my end midfield looks like this:
Ablett (C) - Brownlow favourite 3 years running, Judd - Brownlow medallist and premiership captain, Selwood - Rising star and 3rd Brownlow favourite, Dal Santo - Superstar with sublime skills, Cooney - Brownlow medallist, Hodge - Norm Smith Medallist
with rucks
Cox, McIntosh
Wouldn't you love that in a real game:D

can't break 2300/2400 this year. very disappointed. strangely enough, my team is probably better than last year's, but the whole team hasn't fired at the same time, while last year I had two or three weeks where everyone scored above their average. that's how it goes, i suppose...
