I find his beard very amusing. The way he played yesterday - he can grow whatever facial hair he likes - such a game he played.

As mentioned in another thread - this appears to be the rock beard look that Ben is going for, and I give it some major thumbs skyward. Neil Fallon of Clutch, yeah.

There's a long-standing NHL tradition (which other North American sports have since adopted) of 'playoff beards', whereby players whose teams qualify for the playoffs, which incidentally last for up to two months, boycott shaving resulting in beards which continue to sprout the longer their team progresses, often culminating in the Stanley Cup being awarded to something akin to a tribe of wookie-like neanderthals.
Here's a few memorable examples, amongst which Ben wouldn't look out of place:

Im not sure if any of you caught the Western Force vs Wellington Hurricanes Super 14 rugby game on Friday night from Subiaco. The Hurricanes team had just finished their 2 week tour of South Africa where they had been partaking in a best facial hair competition. The award went to Jason Eaton - who has a bit of a record for growing a hell of a beard (see below). Last friday he had basically shaved off all the inner part of his beard just leaving 2 lines going around the edge of where his beard extended to. Hard to explain but it looked even more weird than it sounds.

One scary mother_____ Nicknamed "l'Homme des Cavernes"—the Caveman.
At the last world cup, I was told he would only answer questions on French, just looked it up and found this.
France’s Sebastian Chabal: when in France, speak French
In a good English accent, French rugby star Chabal refuses to answer a question in English at a press conference, glared: ‘No. We are in France. Speak French please.’ No-one dares to challenge him, and he promptly skips off
Classic grumpy (and likely stinky) Frenchman

A QUICK WORD WITH ...
BEN HUDSON'S BEARD
You've been copping a fair whack these past few weeks. How are you holding up?
Oh, can't let that rubbish get under your whiskers. As Oscar Wilde's forelock used to say, It's better to be talked about than taken to with a razor, or something. We're sticking together, growing through it. We'll come out longer and stronger for the experience.
But you're getting so much stick you might as well be on Osama Bin Laden's chin. "Shocking", boomed the Her-ald Sun. "A bigger joke than us", ranted The Footy Show. "Who's he think he is? Ned Kelly?" thundered Bushranger's Monthly. Surely Ben's gotta be having his doubts?
That's what I love about him - he's a man with conviction. Doesn't bow to trends and social mores, doesn't listen to the critics. We're privileged to be warming his cheeks, really. And besides, we're getting rave reviews out there in cyber world. They love us on beardcommunity.com, and some discerning Doggie has set up "The Ben Hudson Beard Appreciation Society" on woof.net.au.
Yes, well I see some of the younger folk are actually starting to follow his lead. That Logan bloke from Port Adelaide seemed to wear his well on Saturday.
A man of fine taste in facial adornment, young Tom, even if he's got a long way to go to reach our full and fibrous magnificence. And good of you to notice it hasn't exactly taken the wind out of his sails. Whiskers give you wings, you know.
Hmmm. So, has Huddo got anything else planned that you know of? A banjo, perhaps?
We're trying to convince him to give a headband a whirl. Something a bit Willie Nelson would really get them talking.

Lovely work...it's got to be that last one for mine with the tried and true combination of slogan and drool.
Please excuse if you will, but have taken the liberty of arty-fartying that pic up with the aim of producing a more print/tee-friendly graphic image, some of which seem to bring out an almost prophet-like quality to our bristled Ben...either that, or a charming 'don't f*ck with me' aspect.
Anyway, just throwing them out there, discard at your leisure.

Happy to take suggestions - I like the iconic b&w one, however I think once it stops being a photo you lose the intensity of the beard. You just get the idea of the beard. Rather than THE BEARD, but whatever. We can have more than one version.

Maybe a kid waitijg for Christmas morning would have been a better choice of words. In my experience there aren't many VCE students hanging out for their results. In fact that gap between the last exam and getting your results is the best, you can't feel guilty about poor marks and not studying, and any questions about your grades can be given the deflective "I'm not sure yet. I think I did well, but you never know".

While I appreciate the sentiment behind the G.E.T.A. movement, I am someone who prefers to support all of our players, even the ones I don't like. I reckon anyone who goes out and does what the players do every week, regardless of whether or not I like the way they do it, deserves to be treated with respect. Or at the bare minimum they don't deserve to have a public campaign mounted against them - I am not convinced that would be helpful.
Of course if I DID do a G.E.T.A t-shirt it would be hilarious and would no doubt result in Eagles expulsion from the team in no time at all. I am simply that talented.
Unlike Mantis I choose to use my powers for good rather than evil!

Now we have sold 25.
Unless you think it is a bad idea (I should have done this at the beginning...) I am going to raise the price by $3. Then when we have sold enough (say another 6 or so) I shall use the funds to buy one for the great hairy man himself. And then put the price back down.
So if you were thinking of getting another, this would be a good time!
I assume he would be an xxl - but then, maybe he wouldnt. Any idea?

He was at the VFL today with a few others*
* By a few others, I mean Cross (raining B&F), Johnson (Capt), Griffen amd Murphy (both stars).
The short has had such a poweful effect Hudson was the only player that drew glances from the crowd. The other guys should consider growing beards.

It was canberra, remember, only chance to see it was indoors cos you have about 5 layers on outside and I didn't get the XXXXL.
A few people asked, I directed them to woof.

I think the vinegar sets the printing at some point. For future purchasers:
You will need to wash prior to wearing unless you have no sense of smell.
Do not tumble dry as they will shrink or burst into flames.
Got mine today, it looks awesome and smells funky.

Finally got around to ordering one for my father.
I wont try and push him in for the "T-Shirt On Field 22" though. I'm not even sure I'd put him on the coaching staff. He'd make one helluva property steward though.
:D They are not the best smelling t-shirts. It went straight into the washing machine and i will be wearing it tomorrow night.

*** NEWS FLASH ***
A mate at work lives NEXT DOOR TO BEN HUDSON!!!!
Granted he doesn't know much about football (Who's that Bulldogs Ruckman? No not him, the hairy one?") but he still is within reach of greatness.
I'm going to try & get him drunk enough to agree to get my shirt signed (dad's hasn't arrived yet, and 1 shirt will be less intimidating for him the first time round).

I was having a quiet chat prior to the game with Rocket near the race. He then noticed the t-shirt & pointed in out to Bob Murphy who LOVED it & wanted to know how to order a couple.

I love how the bearded behemoth has taken it upon himself to become the teammate defender.
Cal Ward was manhandled and Ben was straight in there to look after him.

Hopefully Coon Dog will update accurately, but he said that apparently Robert Murphy saw the shirt tonight and loved it! He is going to order a couple! Eek! There was something about a restraining order as well but I'm not sure what he meant as I wasn't listening after the first bit.

He wanted to know who designed it & I said it was FDOTM. he looked horrified & asked is he the guy that is stalking me around Seddon when he goes to the shops & then blogs about it. He then mentioned something about a restraining order.

It is usually "spelled" but can also be "spelt"...and yes, it is a type of grain. Here endeth the lesson;)
How about "There is no chin behind Ben Hudsons' beard. There is only another fist." courtesy Chuck Norris, that would be mighty funny :) I wouldn't mind buying one that said that. :D

You know that trimming it only makes it grow back thicker and longer than before? I have it on good authority that Ben is planning to go into the finals series completely covered in facial hair. He will be the first player in AFL history to register a stat for "hairballing".

I kind of forget what he looks like without the beard now?
He has to keep the beard until for a few more games at least, until everyones won their shirts at least a few times!

That idiot Walls came up with one of the season's most stupid statements (again?).
RW: Travis Johnstone has the best beard in the AFL
SQ: You're kidding! The big Bulldog's is 10 times better!

Are you sure he didn't say in the QAFL?
I wore my shirt last night which I'm pretty sure was a small contribution to the win.
