Brian Lake
I don't know what Brian's stats were, not too concerned anyway.
When Richo went forward Brian picked him up & beat him. That's no mean feat given Richo's form over the past few seasons against us.
When Richo went further up the ground Brian played that floating role down back that he is managing to master. Reads the play so well & males many vital interceptions, today being no exception.
He is prepared to venture further away from goal & run & carry the ball which he did really well today.
Another top display today from the man I reckon is about the most important player in our team.
Copped a knock to the nether regions late on & came off as a precaution.
A ripper game by big Bryza, gave him 3 votes in our WOOF B & F.

As with the coon dog I'm unsure of Minsons stats.
Thought big Minno had his best game of the year yesterday. Was providing nice tapwork in the ruck and crashing packs up foward. Can remember a small period in the 3rd quarter where he crashed 3-4 packs in a row. (1 or 2 he might have marked it if he stuck his hands out) He took a contested grab up forward from a higgins kick which i got excited about. One glaring mistake was trying to sheppard the ball through goal when he could have easily marked it only to have it spoiled. Sure he'll learn from that though.
Overall. Good game from the big man and hopefully he can keep it up and improve as the year goes on.

Adam Cooney
10 Kicks
11 Handballs
4 Marks
1 Goal
2 Behinds
And 1 knee that still is not right
Again an average game compared to what we saw last year from our Brownlow Medallist, but now we know why ... we are off to the surgeon again this week and will miss the trip back to Perth to face the Eagles.
Here at Scraggers' Player Management (inc.), we are not concerned with the up coming visit to the specialist ... this is a routine procedure (just a little clean and scrape to get the last of the cartilage fragment off the knee), and we should be back out on the park for the round five clash against Carlton

Everitt was very good for Williamstown, yes he may have been playing against skinny 17 year olds but we look at the positives here at Future Stars Managing Group

Shaun Higgins.
24 possies and 2 goals.
Great game for Missy, was the only bloke on the field who could actually kick early on. Kicked a couple, got plenty of the ball
Out of his 3 outings thus far, he is making the #7 proud and so long as he continues to get the hard ball gets he will be a superstar.
*** Must also add, played very unselfish football. Set up goals on several occasions when he could of just blazed away.

Dale Morris
The usual solid per
Dale Morris
Another reliable performance from Dale, with a bonus goal taking his career total to 2! Very nice to see. There is something about one of our defenders kicking a goal that gives this supporter a warm glow. There was also a lovely goal kicked by ? (can't remember without watching the replay), that could be tracked back to a wonderful spoil by Morris in the backline. He usually pops up with one of these each week.

CALLAN WARD - Round Three vs Dead Men Walking
Match Statistics:
- 13 Disposals (7 kicks - 6 handballs), with 69% effectiveness (ranked 18th amongst the chosen 22, with 3 clangers)
- 2 Contested possessions, 11 uncontested
- 2 Marks (uncontested)
- 2 Tackles
- 2 Clearances
- 4 Inside-50's
- 1 Rebound-50
- 0 goals or goal assists
- Incurred 1 free kick against.
Match Review:
In part a product of his use off the bench, Ward was one of our least involved players on the day, his 13 disposals superior to only the Bulldog ruckmen or stay-at-home defenders, with no particularly noteworthy passages or highlight reel candidates.
In many respects it's unfair to criticize a player who's evidently still learning the game and how to best utilise his obvious abilities, but it's also pertinent to try to assess what he's doing right and what areas need work.
Ward's demonstrated willingness to ply his trade in heavy traffic is an admirable one, but going in is only one half of the equation and he must improve his ability to get either himself or the ball out of the fray. When in possession Ward appears to linger a little too long with the ball while scanning his options, inviting contact and being forced to dish off with an increasingly signature over-the-shoulder handball, the accuracy of which is too often affected by him being slung in mid-tackle. This propensity is further evidenced by Ward's rank of 17th, 22nd and 18th amongst the chosen 22 for disposal efficiency thus far...less than ideal for a midfielder.
A bigger body, and both faster hands and mind are what's required...easier said than done, but one assumes all three will come with time.
His current place in the team isn't under immediate scrutiny, but unless he can begin to make his touches more effective ones, he may justifiably see the odd spell for Williamstown to help maintain his touch and confidence.

Ryan Griffen
Ryan came back down to earth with a thud this week after two excellent performances in the operning two rounds.
Down in all departments, from possies, effectiveness, and skill execution.
Normally a great kick, Griff missed two shots on goals, one was an absolute gift only 15 metres out in front and the other a more ambitious snap on the left foot from about 30 out in traffic.
His normallly very good skills went missing (only 60% disposal efficiency) as he both put balls out on the full under no pressure, or just plain missed gettable targets upfield.
The only positive for Griff on the day was his workrate, which didn't drop, as he got to enough contests and was able to lay 5 effective tackles.
He appeared to be well watched by the opposition and was rarely allowed the freedom to gain clear possession. Usually a high uncontested possie winner, Griff had the equal 2nd highest amount of contested possessions for out team 11, out of a total of only 15 total possies. Perhaps confirmed he was being heavily sat on by the Tiges- who no doubt would've been well aware of his damaging abilities in open field.
Stats
Kicks 8
H/B 7
Marks 1
Goals 0.2
Tackles 5
Hopefully Griff can rebound well in Perth next week against Wet Toast!
Clangers 3
Contested Possies: 11

Aka had
23 posssies
13 kicks
10 handballs
4.2 goals
Has been playing well and this week it showed on the scoreboard. Really happy with how he is playing and his class has been vital without the class of Murphy up forward. Ended the game with his accurate set shots and took a very good mark in the last quarter. Doesn't seem to have let his pre-season worry him but the real test will come later in the year to see if he can finish this season (and BTW his career) off without fading away.
Nothing would cap his career off like a premiership or Norm Smith medal to add to the collection at home.

Brad Johnson
Not a leadong light in this game, but he didn't need to be. His two goals were a tibute to concentration, application and skill. One was a third effort at the contest. For a time he picked up Richo when he went forward (for us) of the centre and Richo wasn't greatly effective. The incident with Johnno and McGuane and mate reminded me of another at the other end of Johnno's career when Danny Southern put a stranglehold on Sumich?, when West Coast was tying to intimidate the 17 yo Johnson. On Monday Johnno showed he now doesn't need any protection even when two take him on. He had 14 kicks, 9 handpasses and did a few other things besides.

Daniel Giansiracusa
Another relatively quiet week for Gia. Bobbed up and kicked a couple of goals and finished with 17 disposals. Not sure if he is playing some sort of role the last few weeks, or if he's even being sat on a bit, because after starting the year like an absolute fire cracker he's dropped off a bit.
Made a few uncharacteristic errors moving the ball inside the F50 at times on the weekend, and just couldn't really get himself heavily involved in the game.
Hopefully he can turn it around quickly, as with Cooney out possibly for a couple of weeks we need some experience around the ball to help out Griff and Higgins.

Mitch Hahn
K 5
HB 9
M 1
G 1
Mitch struggled early at CHF when the ball was delivered erratically into the forward line. The position is not natural to him because of his wide turning circle and plays better in close-in duels.
Not one of his best games but he still did some good bullocking work
An important member of the side

Matt Boyd
21 touches
7 kicks
14 handballs
6 tackles
2 clearances
Boyds quietest game of the year to date. Down on contested possessions and clearances, but 3rd highest in tackles with 6 (Eagle with 9, Cross with 7).
A solid contributor but not as damaging this week, perhaps as a result of:
a) a more even team contribution
b) Cross and Higgins having their best games of the year
c) our dreadful first quarter
d) more midfield rotation in light of heading back to WA this weekend
Mantis

Ben Hudson
0 kicks
11 handballs
1 mark
19 hitouts (1 to advantage)
On those stats you would think Ben had a poor game as these stats are the 'normal' key indicators for a ruckmans influence on a game. However when you add in the following stats you find his game was pretty influential:
8 first possessions (next best for us was 4)
5 clearances (next best 3)
4 tackles
From that I guess you get the picture that Ben's effect on a game can't be measured by kicks & handballs it has more to do with getting his hands on the ball at clearances which is where he comes into his own.
Another good game from Ben, but he faces the biggest challenge in the game this week (for a ruckman) so lets hope for another solid effort.

Im still have to double take to remember it is Higgins not West out there. I guess Higgins kicking on his right foot from 50 should remind me...

Josh Hill
17 Possies (9 Kicks 8 Handballs)
8 Marks
3 Tackles
1 Goal 1 Behind
Josh is flyyyyyyying and gunna make me a rich man. Clubs have been contacting me like crazy to ask about his contract status. Even Scotty Clayton gave me a buzz..know what I told him? Sure. Josh is very interested in going up there here is his number. I then proceeded to give him Andrew McDougall's number, Scotty wasnt impressed :D
In all seriousness he is playing very well and is impressing me every week :) Especially his confidence to spoil and outmark stars like Richo and his ability to go down back and play a defensive role aswell is great..becoming a very solid contributor and although he only kicked 1.1 he setup a few goals too.

Lindsay Gilbee
28 disposals @ just 68%. 21 kicks, 7 handballs, 5 marks, 5 clangers.
Gilbee was good, but could have been so much better. The last few weeks his ball use has been down on what we would normally expect.
His role has changed somewhat. He's playing further up the ground, presumably to give him more room to deal with his tag.
He's still winning plenty of the ball - and the screamer from outside 50 notwithstanding - his ball use is nowhere near last year. One day very soon it will all click and some poor mob are going to get seriously torched.

Tommygun
Played well without being brilliant, which is about what we expect to be honest. Managed 10 disposals with 8 of them being kicks, and took 6 marks. Played on Jack Riewoldt IIRC, who had a minimal impact on the game.
We're still yet to see Tommygun sent forward, but he's making our defence look very settled and well balanced. If he keeps his form up I'll be very happy, and so far he hasn't shown any sign of being injured (touch wood), mind you anything could happen, he might be knocked unconcious by a Lindsay Gilbee torpedo at training today.

Could Gilbee's kicking be less effective because he's playing further up the ground where there's more pressure on his kicks and the teammate he's kicking too?

Perhaps, but he has missed quite a few shots at goal this year that we would all have expected him to kick.
