The upside to todays game against Sydney is the young guys coming through. Especially since Aker and Johnno were well held.

Harbrow

How good was young Harbrow today after the threat of being dropped (or did he know he wasn't going to get dropped anyway). Has a lot to learn, but really backs himself, picked up 21 disposals and went in hard all day.

Ward

Terrific first half, 18 disposals 3 goals, went in hard as usual. Dropped off in the 2nd half but then again the whole team did.

Josh Hill

Presents well, starting to show a bit in his defensive side with 5 tackles today. Still picked up his usual 15 disposals.

Higgins

This kid is all class, picked up a lazy 22 disposals, laid 6 tackles and really wasn't as fit as he could be. We all know he is going to be a star.

Picken

Although not too young at age 22, but young in games played, what a find this kid is, tough as nails.

I wonder if Ward is in contention for the Rising Star this week. He was very good last week as well.

Was really impressed with Hill today, did the things he normally doesn't do. (as bornadog suggested)

Worked hard when he didn't have the ball, laid tackles & provided second efforts.

Good to see another side of him, not just the big marks.

Noticed Hill's chasing when we played down in Adelaide a few weeks ago. He really worked much harder than I had seen previously off the ball. With Harbrow down back, Hill is very important to defensive pressure in our half of the ground.

Good thread, and I suppose we shouldn't discount a few others like Addison, Tiller and Everitt who are also pretty young and have been playing good roles, although in and out of the side still a little more than the others you have mentioned.

Ward is coming along very well, his performances the last few weeks have been terrific. With Griffen, Cooney, Higgins and Ward running through the middle with Boyd and Crossy we are looking very, very dangerous at the moment.

We're well placed for the future.

Very happy with the kids yesterday. With all other things being equal it is the 5 or so guys named above who can take us from 3rd last year to 1st this year, so we need continual improvement from them. The best thing is that four of them are real hard nuts, and if anything they enhance our tackling and contested ball winning. Loved Higgo's tackle on Barry Hall yesterday.

I thought our younger group showed a lot yesterday, ewspecially when players like Johnson and Aker weren't getting the ball or doing a lot with it.

I loved the way Higgins played. There was one passage of play where he tackled a Swans player the ball spilled out to another Swans player and he followed it up with a second effort laying another tackle. I was really impressed with his game given he isn't 100% with his aductor.

I think Higgins has got a bit of agro in him, which I like. Really upset Hall in that passage of play and Higgins didn't back down.

Yea I saw that one, he actually missed a tackle to begin with and had he not had the driVe to continue to chase, it would'e been a sydney goal, he was tackling blokes while on his back!:)

Higgins at the moment is awesome, he has lost the puppy fat he had and is just burning.
I remember him as being a little round, still had the class but not the motor to do what he does now.
He is the one we must keep from GC!

These guys continue to develop and play some unbelievable football. How good was Ward on Saturday picking up 33 possessions, and he is still 19 years old.

How true is this since the Sydney game and add Reid as the newest addition.

Harbrow is a bloody star, his run from the backline to set up players further up the field is sensational. Ward is all guts and between him and Reid covered for Cross and had a tackle count of 17 between them. I thought it was one of Hills best games last night, he is growing in confidence and is still only 20 years old.

How much have we missed missy. To slot straight back after missing three games against a quality side was great to watch.

I have also noticed over the space of the season, how much better Josh is at keeping his feet.

Doesn't seem to go ground much, but his opponent does a lot.

Joshy Hill could very well be as important to us as Micky O was for Sydney.

Whoever it was [Rocket or one of the assistant coaches] that suggested Harbrow play in defence is a genius, he showed some good signs before this season, but has just burst out of the pack something wicked this season, even early on when he was getting cut up a bit by some forwards, he just looked like he belonged back there, more so for his rebound, him taking on players is just awesome, been a real pleasure to watch him play.

I know he won't make the team, but wouldn't be suprised at all if his name was brought up by some of the AA selectors as that smaller defender.

It was sort of luck that he ended up in the backline. The first game of the year, Tim Callan was set to play, but there was no match up as Freo went tall. Before the next game Tim got injured and we needed a small to play on Matt Campbell and Harbrow was thrown in. Mind you, he played in that role a couple of times at Willi, last year. The rest is history.

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but i'm assuming Lachlan the son of Mark (Hunter)????

We need to get as many viable F/S as possible in the next 10 years. With the GC17 and WS18 stealing all of the young talent its a must

Are there many others in the pipe apart from Libba and Wallis junior?

Don't forget Wallis and Liberatore.

A general question do you think with the new teams coming in and Wallis and Libba ready for drafting, will we pay over the odds or under the odds for them?
As in will Wallis and LIbba now become first rounders or will they slip to 4th rounders?

That might be enough to put me in a home in 15 or 20 years time.

I actually said, "Go Eagle" last Friday night, I got looks of disbelief from the people around me. My mate (a Eagle fan) reckons I am finally on the Bald Eagle bandwagon.... as if.;)

Scott Clayton will be cashed up and ready to splash

It wouldnt surprise me if his inner knowledge of Libba and Wallis will push forward their selection, which we will pay the price for

Wallis is a surefire first rounder, is going to be elite.

Liberatore might slip a bit further, he hasn't shown as much as Wallis for mine.

Yup, Lachlan son of Mark who played 130 games so qualifies. He's a 15 yo & just won his competition B&F so signs are good.

3 F/S picks in the two years GC17 & WS18 are raping the draft means we could reap more benefit from those two drafts than the teams that bottom out. Makes me smile :)
