I really enjoy playing poker but a $300 buy in plus additional $100 buys ins are on the high side for a good night.

I agree. Very steep for a fun game of Poker with the guys..

Id def play if it was $50-$100 as I love poker but even I dont play for that much.

Bah, I'd play but a $300 buy in is way too steep for me. I'm only a poor student with no job at the moment :(

Why is it so much though? Surely if was even $100-$150 buy in there would be a lot more people signing up!

I’m assuming it’s not cheap to hire tables at Crown for private use, but $300 is a touch steep, considering the prize money is only $5000.

However, I love me some poker, and I love the Bulldogs – pretty much a ‘can’t miss’ opportunity for me.

Hopefully the Bulldog guys are as bad as some other AFL players I’ve come up against.

A few years back when I worked in the city a group of us from work would book a table on a Friday night and play tournaments there. I think it was $30 to $35 per head with $10 going back into prize money. They threw in a drink voucher as well.
Now Poker wasn't as popular then as it is now but I think the Friday night challenges still occur for about $50 per person. You can have multi table challenges as well.

With that in mind, $100 to $150 would make for a great night. The buy ins wreck things for the more serious players.

With the small prize money on offer it definitely does – though I can still see some donkeys re-buying.

If it was a bigger kitty (and therefore worth it), buy ins can allow you to ultra-aggressive early, and help build your stack.

Have you ever considered having a WOOF poker night, GVG? Maybe link it in to sponsoring a player/helping fund a rookie?

Hard one to organise during the footy season I would have thought. Perhaps later in the year.
In keeping with the online theme I think Pokerstars have given me the option of hosting tournaments.

Maybe even try and organise it at a Pub if someone knows the right person and a part of the rego fee could chip in for some poker tables and chips. Woof Poker League haha :)

I think I'd better give it a miss seeing as I'll be 11 days too young and have no idea what this 'buy in' business is. ;)

Can't decide if I will go or not. $300 is steep but I haven't been able to get to Crown in ages so it would give me an excuse to play some live poker again. Have you booked yet Comrade?

Received an invitation in the mail today signed by Mitch Hahn for this event.

Just wondering do the footy players have to pay to enter as well?

Really want to play, but like most $300 is a bit steep for someone with Rent, Mortgage (House being built), Baby and a Wife. All on one salary :S

Ok so I paid 10 days ago and received the following email straight away.

Your credit card has been processed today for $300.00 (inc GST) for the purchase of
WB Members Tickets x 1
to the Poker with the Bulldogs event
to be held on Saturday 18th July.

A confirmation letter will be forwarded to you shortly.
The letter will include details for any additional information relating to the event.

Has anyone received this letter yet? The event is in 2 days and I have no idea what I am supposed to do. Emailed the club 3 days ago with no response and calls to the guy whose name on it have gone unanswered and with no call back. Seems like this event was put together in 5 minutes with no one actually in charge.

I've received a few emails from Jared Hanks at the club about the night, might be worth giving him a bell.

Who went?

Who was the big winner?

Mitch Hahn was the big winner with Eagle coming 2nd. What I thought was a non thought out / planned event was actually very well organised and a great night.

Boydy is a very geniune bloke and has a good sense of humour.

A few of the guys will be waking up with a headache this morning.
