Thank you Coon Dog, as I wipe the tears from my eyes, I remember when in 1960 I was 15 years of age and we were playing St Kilda at the Whitten Oval, E.J. picked the ball up on the members wing and ran towards the Geelong road goals, an opposition player stood in his way and as he got closer that player stepped aside and let Teddy run past, he went on and kicked the goal. That was E.J. he did that every week, I know I was there, this one is for you big man where ever you are.

WOW what a man EJ was, just feel so blessed that EJ was a part of OUR club. I have to admit a tear was shed from watching the footage.

What impressed me most about the footage of E.J was how skilled he looked. I wasn't around when E.J played. Dad said he was the best he had seen and he saw them all (Skilton et al.)
The way he would mark and play on and dummy in that video makes me think that he played like a modern footballer might, rather than how they did (or how I suspect they did) 50 years ago. One might say he was well ahead of his time.

Simply the best player to play the game.

Brilliant and ruthless, all in one.

To watch him in state games when he had class all around him was something else.

Captain Coach at 24 and for the most part, playing with an ordinary team, he took the opposition on seemingly all by himself

If I was rocket I would just have to play this to the boys tonight and ask them how do they want to be remembered. leave it at that I say.

Never seen him play but one thing I can say he was football and he was bulldog.

Looking at the AFL now no one has the personality or charisma that EJ has. No wonder blokes followed him, even as they come together from other clubs to play for the Big V.

He was mercurial in the air, clever as hell on the ground and gave a wicked backhander or three each game. His flick passes were lightning, his skill coupled with fast thinking vision drew oohs and aahs from the crowd. He would suprise you with what he could do.
His heart was as great as his skill. He was a leviathan of the game all right. Best ever player for mine, followed a discreet distance away by Ablett snr, Matthews, Carey and Grant.
