Just wondering if anyone has heard the rumour that we have offered Matthew Lloyd a 2 year contract?:confused:

Patrick Smith mentioned it on SEN this morning.

Said it was the reason Lloyd has delayed his decision at Essendon

I believe this is a plan B in case Hall goes to another club ie Collingwood who would be looking to replace Rocca.

He would be my forth choice behind Hall, Bradshaw and Dowler.

We need to end up with at least one of these guys IMO.

Don't do it.

He isn't the type of player we need.

On top of that I absolutely despise the guy and could not support him.

OK. See thats the problem at Essendon, can only have 1 high pants wearer between them.

Fatrick Smith suggested this is plan A, Barry Hall being our plan B!

Howabout play Lloydy close to goals, and Big Bad roaming around half foward, if they chose a Premiership chance over $$$?

That said, we might need to add a retirement village into the re-development plans for the likes of Johnno, Aker, Hall & Harry High Pants.

If Lloydy was still any good in this role he would still be the starting FF at Essendon.

No he wouldn't, Knights has already stated on many occasions that playing youth in the key posts is the way to go with the likes of Gumbleton, Hurley & that big fella.

Even when Sheedy played Lloydy up the ground a few times when he was still at the top of his game, he looked half the player he was at FF.

Neagle? Absolute gumby.

If Lloyd was still capable of kicking 80 goals at FF he would still be playing there.... Coaches want to win games of footy and will pick the best suited to team to allow this to happen.

Knights has chosen youth over experience as a way to say that Lloyd's output wouldn't be much better than the young guys anyway and perhaps the young blokes will get better whereas Lloyd is only going to get worse.

LostDoggy

His kicking is getting worse too. His accuracy has dropped off so much its not funny.

Still, for a 4th round pick and him on a near basement salary, I wouldn't say no to him. Even if he only played 12-15 games during the year.

Interested to know why you hate him so much?

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Lloyd because he was in yr 12 at my school when I was in Year 7 - so he was a bit of a hero to everyone! Lloyd and CHF, Lucas and CHB and Jude Bolton on a wing made a pretty handy side.

He always got back down to the school for events and to give us a talk etc.. always seemed like a terrific bloke.

I hate Lloyd but I love what he did for his team against Hawthorn in the last round. A player who wants something that badly and is prepared to do what it takes to acheive it would be a welcome addition to our list.

For me there is a fair bit of difference between cheering for a player you dislike compared to having someone you dislike sitting in the coaches box.

If it's performance based sure, $350,000 or so.

Min. 20 games, min. 60 goals, NO suspensions plus other caveats.

Agree performance based but i would start it at $250.00 with incentives to $350.00 plus caveats to suspension.

Like dropping the word 'Mission' everywhere you can.

"Im on a MISSION for a Premiership with the Bulldogs"
or another quirk like "The MISSION is now not impossible...with me on your side"

I am pretty sure Rocket dropped the "M" word in just about each & every presser, i remember watching the after game press conference about the time we signed with Mission, he would have dropped the word at least a dozen times, and you could see him have a bit of a chuckle with Fantasia on the way out.

Imagine we pick up BOTH Loyd and Hall, two aging Gorilla. We can put 1 (Loyd) in the goal square to play the Kosi/Alastair Lynch role/Bradshaw role and the other 1 (Hall) roam around our attacking 50.

This would be ideal as Loydy will drag a defender or two away from the hotspot and so will Barry if he starts to dominate. This will leave ample of space for Acker and co to run riot. Imagine the delight on Gia/Higgins face when they look up and just need to Bomb it in or kick to advantage of our 2 power forwards.

I've always had a soft spot for Lloydy, he was always good with the kids (son is an Essendon supporter (sigh) Different story with Hird who was always up himself. He was well past his prime and we would not be that stupid to pick him up - but I wish him well.

Now Barry on the other hand. He wants to go out of football on a high, he has something to prove, he loves the dogs (his team growing up), he was previously coached by Rocket and Rocket knows how to get the best out of him.
He doesn't have to boot a lot of goals, we already do that, but he does have to take over the hotspot to get that contested mark away from the defenders and let the crumbers do the rest.
If we pick him up in a couple of weeks he can get a full pre season into him, and get the gameplan right before round 1. He doesn't have to be the messiah, he just has to be a presence.

Great player. Great career. Regardless of whether you like him or not.
He certainly got a hold of us a few times over the years - but is probably retiring at the right time - and finishes a one-club player.

Good luck to Lloyd wish him the best - he grew up in my suburb and played his junior footy at the local footy club and to this day is always popping in there to see how things are going.

Whilst he was a Fitzroy supporter in his early years - he also was very interested and had a big soft spot for the Dogs.

Well done Lloydy on a great career, and he is an Essendon champion, never really hated him like others seem to, i just can't stand little tip rats like Milne or Jeff Farmer.

I still remember Harro taking one for the team by playing 20 metres in front of him to deny him winning the Coleman, and off course Kreta playing whackerty whack whack at his injured hand, was quite comical, and that hit the post in the same game KMac booted 3 on debut to lay claim to be our next white hope...BUH BOW!...and game ending in a draw.
