Good luck to Skip too - always seemed a good guy and his attitude this year couldn't be questioned.

Silvani to Freo - could be a good pick up.
Carlton may have a bargain with Dare, quite a bit of talk about him pre-draft

He played his junior footy behind the ball, but he'll be developed in a small defensive forward role.

So we've got the Larke medallist and the AA full forward as rookies - not bad at face value.

This rookie draft is more interesting than I expected.
Dons gone for the bigger body in 4th round, Marigliani.

A few re-lists too.

You'd suspect he'd be a developing ruckman type

google search suggests he is 6 foot 9

Can see why there were wraps on him - his tackling is excellent for a leading forward, seems quite good overhead.

And yet he thinks through problems really quickly. The contest where he turns his opponent inside out just outside the goalsquare, picks up the pill and runs into an open goal is pure Brad Johnson.

The negative comments I heard about him were basically that he's not flexible - he's a one-trick pony, but it's a good trick.

For all the comments over the years of us needing to draft Pods, we seem to have a younger, more athletic and nimble version of him. Probably better defensive skills too.

That sounds to me like he is more of a pure footballer than a guy with huge athletetic capabilities.

That's OK I dont expect him to keep up with Crossy in the endurance runs-I expect him to run to places in the forward line where he'll get on the end of Crossys' kicks!

Good point about Pods/Panos too. One of the first things I thought when I saw him was "He plays a bit like Pod's with better reflexes"

That's what the club is hoping Hooper becomes. Rose can play the role as well although his forte is leading & timing.

There was a distinct lack of quality small forwards in this year’s pool. If Hooper develops in a forward role, we may have snared a bargain.

Hooper doesnt take a sideway step in any of the footage on his highlights reel. It's just run into pack, pick up ball, run forward then kick everytime.

He's a bit like Brent Harvey in that he demands and also gets his own ball, he's brave, not overly fast or a long booming kick but almost always puts it to his teams advantage.

Not in leg speed but he always seems to be at the fall of the ball.

He's very quick – (2.90sec 20m and 7.98sec agility both in top 5 per cent at Draft Camp) and was a stand out at the vertical leap. His biggest issue will be adapting to an unfamiliar role, but that’s the value of a rookie selection. He’ll have time to develop.

Plus he’s a good ol’ Ballarat boy and would know both Jordan Roughead and Chris Maple (development coach) well, which should help his transition.

Dalrymple would be rapt to have him at the Kennel.

Nice comparison and I can definitely see that.

I could see him being played as a defensive forward. He has the traits for it. Very quick, strong and works hard over the ground. I like him as a BP but he probably doesn't quite have the touch of class, composure and skill to effectively play that role in today's game.

I think Hooper's a great selection though. He's exactly the type of rookie you want.

I don't know anything about Moles/Prato, but I am very happy with Hooper, Panos and Rose. I think we've had a solid day addressing and bolstering areas of our list.

Good draft all round. When you put the draft and rookie draft together, our recruiters have done a great job. (I was skeptical after the main draft). Looks like we have good potential here to cover those that will retire over the next 2 seasons, and still remain a contender for a flag over that time.

Must say I'm disappointed for a couple of guys in Alex Stopp and Nick Lower (both Norwood lads, Nick from Power too) who missed out. I was hopeful that both would get picked up...

Quite a few re-treads and mature age players picked up, as to be expected.

3rd Matthew Panos - Strong Tall- Leading Forward- Strong mark, accurate kick

4th Eddie Prato - Strong Tall- Tap Ruckman- Good potential

5th Patrick Rose - Strong Medium - Leading Forward/ Crumbing Forward- Good engine, accurate kick
