Special thanks to aidancdaman (http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=663818) who's a 14 year old talented youngster over on Big Footy & he's given me permission to reproduce these. I'll do them all separately, so please hold off posting until I have done them all.
I did notice the Mission logo was in the wrong spot, so only a 9.5 out of 10 for the young fella. ;)

I'd never really thought about it, but it surprised me that Richmond is the only team without a clash jumper. Do they actually not have one, or it just hasn't been announced yet?
Don't like the Brisbane jumper, especially the 'clash' which uses the old Fitzroy colours. Surely they could have left the Fitzroy lion on that at least?
Port are on a winner with their new design.

The Brisbane jumpers are a disgrace.
Love the Port design. My favourite designs are the ones that are unique while still remaining simple, which Port have achieved perfectly. IMO if a nan can't knit it, it's no good.

An excellent criteria. Unfortunately Adidas et al see Nan as competition. (Plus they have a lot of graphic designers on staff who have families to feed)

Good point.
Ironically, the thing is that retro sells at the moment. Our designs are more American than the Americans. NBA teams have gone back to more retro uniforms and the EPL, which would have to the league with most shirts sold worldwide, is full of classic designs.

They don't need one.
You can tell who the other team are in Richmond games - they're the ones with the ball.

I believe a team's colours should be sacrosanct, or at least much more so than the design of the jumper. For that reason I don't understand why some teams see a need to introduce new colours into their alternative strips. Surely any clash could be solved by keeping the original colours and simply changing the design and colour emphasis.

Port's is a clear winner. I really don't like a lot of the new jumpers. The Lions and Cats are pretty bad IMO. The rest aren't much better. I wish we'd ditch the Bulldog, as the Power have shown how great a simple jumper can still look.

A few points from me:
-I agree that the Port Jumpers are very impressive. However I did like last years version that had the port logo on the bottom of the V, not above the sponsor.
-Another vote for Brisbane having the worst jumpers.
-I must say that I am very suprised that despite their new logo being hideous, I quite liked the crows away jumper.
-I am suprised that more teams haven't gone for a Home, Away and Clash three jumper system like Melbourne have. Generally speaking, the more jumpers you have the more units get shifted. Perhaps the dogs could appease the fans that hate the white model by producing a jumper that is based around the old school Footscray jumpers?

Is that Sydney clash jumper new? Not the worst one going.
Port's jumper is a good one, at long last, but weren't they due?
Brisbane's is an absolute shocker, but still not as bad as Hawthorn and Geelong's clash strips.

Bar Port who are 'sponsor-less' we are the only club to have the same sponsor on both jumper & shorts.
It would be interesting to see $$ breakdown to see where we are placed and if Mission are shelling out more cash for the privilege of being the sole 'naming' sponsor.

Except the Clash is atrocious. Its all that white stuff TCD;)
Also who the hell do we clash with? Eagles away jumper is the only one and they don't have to wear it when they play us.

Well, I guess the argument is that in wearing our normal strip we clash with the desires of the marketing department.
Ports new jumper is an absolute sensation. North Melbourne's clash jumper is insipid.
I remain baffled why no-one wears 'green' - it is one of Freo's colors but they seem to have completely dropped it from their strip. Just amazing that GC17 are going to be red, white, blue and yellow when there is an entire spectrum with a strong sporting heritage (Boston Celtics, Green Bay Packers etc) that is being completely ignored.

Well, I guess the argument is that in wearing our normal strip we clash with the desires of the marketing department.
....
More accurately we comply with the desires of the marketing department. The royal blue arguably clashes with
Melbourne's traditional jumper with white shorts. But Melbourne's home game sees it wearing navy blue shorts. The darker colour does not clash with our royal blue if we wear white shorts and it has a clash jumper for our home games.
West Coast's Royal Blue with gold flashes. There's grounds for a clash there but not with the three panel navy blue, white and yellow it now wears.
Fremantle if it wears its purple, red, white and green version As home team, if it wears that version, then I suppose it represents a clash.
The outfit itself is too white. If the jumper must be so white, then why not retain the royal blue socks and shorts ?
Gee I get annoyed when the team runs out with the white outfit against Richmond, Essendon etc.

They used to have one, it had yellow strips under the arms conecting with the sash. Strange that they don't have to have one when Essendon still do
Sydney's clash strip is way too similar to their regular jumper....who would they clash with anyway?

Honestly never heard such a carry on about nothing when it comes to clash strips. We clash with a few sides and makes it easier to watch with the white top. just love to see the dogs go back to the pre1975 guernsey. Clubs who go on about constitutions and history re. guernseys is just crap!! If it's good enough for the biggest sporting organisations to have alternative strips, then it's good enough for sporting sides in a domestic competition

Have the Lions really changed their design that much that people now consider their new jumper one of the worst? Has the design really changed all that much?
Every brand has slight upgrades and alterations to their identity, maybe it's me but I don't see the big deal to be honest. I'd prefer that jumper every day of the week instead of Melbourne whose colours have gone away from their original navy blue & red, at least the Lions haven't lost their colours and have only slightly modernized their logo.

As long as the AFL does not force the club against which any of the above 3 are playing to wear a strip it does not want to wear, as it outrageously does when C'wood play North, then I can't see that its anybody's businss but the clubs concerned. If R'mond, E'don and C'wood want to wear the one jumper all the time, good luck to them. Franklly, I wish our club stood firmer on identity issues, such as jumpers.

We have had numerous jumper design changes in over what 120 years. As long as its red white and blue and a reasonable design, whats the difference?
The problem is clubs like Essendon and Collingwood not just believe they own the colours but also the design.
I would think that at least 90% of people believe some colours and designs look similar to others. Its the 21st century, there is no need in a game where colours are important for clashes to happen.
The easiest way to fix this problem is to allow the clubs more profit in the jumper sales, watch these rogue club quick smart try do backflips.

I don't claim to be a historian. Leaving aside more confused times when a club called Footscray wore royal blue and white horizontal hoops and a red cap and apart from a period in early '1900's where the club wore a red jumper with red-white-blue sash, until the mid '90's, the design has been consistently royal blue with a red hoop and a white hoop, varied from the mid '70's to border the red hoop. Recent madnesses, the ochre jumper with the club badge, jumpers with dog's heads and the white version, are embarrassing. Design is up there with colours. I admire the Essendon and Collingwood stands. If the club has to have a clash strip, why not use the turn of the century red strip ?
I agree with you on the way to "fix this problem", not that I see it as a problem. If clubs want to adopt alternative jumpers influenced by greater revenue streams, that up to them but clubs should not be forced to adopt strips they don't want.

It is a problem. Colours/designs clash and look similar. Its a fact. Only the fools at Essendon and Collingwood are blind to that. I have no problem with our club changing the design of our jumpers as long as they keep the colours. Why can't these clubs do the same?

The problem is the AFL don't have the courage to set a strict set of guidelines and more importantly enforce them on the 'bigger' clubs who refuse to co-operate. As someone has stated if it's good enough for the biggest clubs in the world to do it aka Manchester United than it should be good enough for Collingwood.

...Be a good idea though if you did in the right thread.
Those threads were last contributed to in, respectively, July and April 2009, well out of sight. The issue of the club's jumper and identity peroccupies many supporters. Threads veer around in all directions the longer they run, no harm in that.

What does it matter when those threads were created? They're still relevant to the issue you & ES are discussing.

I think this has now been fixed. The AFL board is a new one and a couple of settings weren't consistent. Send me a PM if there is a still a problem.

The Brisbane jumpers are a disgrace.
Love the Port design. My favourite designs are the ones that are unique while still remaining simple, which Port have achieved perfectly. IMO if a nan can't knit it, it's no good.
Exactly, and it took a 4 year kid to design it before they worked that out.
I think the adidas ones are generally awful.
Collingwoods jumpers just look terrible, and Essendon's clash jumper is again abysmal.
How does the W.C.E. get 3 jumpers? and they can't even get 1 of them to look good.
Agree about the paddle pop lion, if i was a Fitzroy supporter i would either get them to change it back, or make them change it completely so it doesn't even resemble Fitzroy, because it's awful.

Personally I am happy with the two designs but must say that I really liked it too. Perhaps we could have something like this for out preseason jumper, I think it is a bit of an opportunity lost using the normal jumpers. I think a jumper like that would sell very, very well.
Does our jumper design vary from year to year? I know that the crows slightly tweak theres every year to get people forking out more and it's a pretty good idea.

Yep, looks like a big white V(but it does look a 1000 times better than the other jumpers they have had).

crows, lions, eagles and hawks clash jumpers all look like a dogs breakfast! sydneys jumper ISN'T a clash jumper..........just one they can wear in preseason matches (and get them more money by having 2 jumpers to sell, which they didn't have previously because they dont need a clash jumper) i think richmond and essendon etc should just reverse the yellow/black....red/black etc then they can keep there designs and colours just with another contrast..........i think there is too much white being put into clash strips. port adelaides new jumper is 100% better then their previous.........nice and simple

More updates including Pre Season jumpers, away strip & at last the Mission logo is correct on our jumpers!
Freo's clash and away jumpers are mixed up TCD.
Richmond and Essendon should be forced to have a light clash jumper.

Personally I am a little annoyed that Essendon gets away with it's "clash" jumper. How does widening the sash stop it clashing? At least Richmond added the extra yellow on the side.

Personally, most of the clash jumpers are not needed. There are some real shockers out there. The Eagles and Crows, what the Hell are they thinking:confused:
Why the hell does every one want to go with a predominantly white clash????

Makes for a more enjoyable game to watch(light jumper versus dark jumper) in my opinion anyway.

The Saints appear to have gone with a different away / clash strip this year. A white version of their traditional, red, white and black vertical bars. I'm sure in recent years they've had the large black cross over white for their away / clash strip.

They wore the current white away one last season & this season. In 2007 & 2008 it was this one:

I agree, how good does the port jumper look???
I do wonder if the Essendon designer had a severe lack of interest when creating the "clash" jumper???

That's a pity, they could have auctioned them off after the game to make some more money for the cause.
