A pragmatic view....

Ok we lost Round 1!

I like my fellow WOOF'ers was very disappointed. Did the flu do us in like it did the All Blacks a World Cup so many years ago? Were we basking in NAP Cup glory? Did we expect things to happen on the back of last year?

I have moved on. Yes there was disappointment on Sunday but really it is 1/22 games that are to be played in 2010 without finals.

What are the expectations?

Personally I would not want a St Kilda scenario (a la 2009) where we win most games comfortably and cruise into the finals. I believe that is asking for the eneviatable to happen, like a prelim let down!

We should beat he majority of teams with the squad we have. We should have days where we are "off" and struggle. As Rocket said "we are dealing with humans"?

My expectations are a 15-18/ 22 win loss ratio. Taking into account injuries, training loads, illness, form slump, ageing bodies, a loss to a Richmond???

It is my belief that things will click. Give Bazza some time. Josh H will carve them up when he realises his full potential, Bob will win the Brownlow with some injury luck, Higg will decimate defenders who give him no respect....

I cannot wait to smash Richmond! It will be men against boys and Jordy isn't even playing!

The loss in Round 1 was a bit of an enegima. Last year we spanked Freo and it was a case of "here we go". Before that Richmond were our whipping boys.

I look forward to round 2 and a win in any circumstances will be a good win in my eyes.

The only thing that upset me about the loss is the ribbing I copped from the Collingwood supporter at work, gee I hate how they gloat.

As far as the team go, learn from it and move on. It's a long season.

And revenge will be sweet and I hope it's to knock them out of a final.

As the old cliche' goes, it's the loss we had to have. I think we feel how the saints felt after the NAB cup final. It's a bit of a wake up call.
Were we flat or were the pies just that good? I'm a little worried that the pies were just that good.

I tend to find if you just take the front foot approach and do the whole "You guys were very good. Davis, Didak and Medhurst killed us. I reckon we're a lot better than that but you guys exceed my expectations" they struggle to bag you because you've already beaten them to the topic at hand.

If anything, I thought Sunday that Higgins was the Collingwood number 1 targetted player for extra attention. He was knocked flat a few times and every time he disposed of it teams were very keen to get stuck into him

I dont think Higgins will play too many games for the rest of his career where he isn't paid respect

Great tactic soupa, and one I use quite a bit when I have to! Certainly puts them off their game, and they find it hard to make a smart come-back reply :D

I too, have taken a pragmatic approach - after all, one game does not maketh a season, right? And who really thought we would get through the year not dropping a game? Collingwood, (as much as I hate to say it) are 'round about this year, so we did face a pretty decent opposition. I hate it when we lose to a lesser side - that really breaks my heart:confused:

Agree. Didn't want to face a 'very ordinary' team like Richmond after a loss to Collingwood - can't wait to put that loss behind us against Hawks, StK, Bris and really show em what we're capable of, and then get our revenge on the scum when we meet again round 11 :cool:

Also a shame we don't get to play Geelong til Round 20 (the fixturing these past years is pathetic :rolleyes:)

I always ask the question "Are you a member"? Hopefully when they say they're not I used to say "Well come back and talk to me when you are". If they say yes that they are a member.........run.:D

It's a good tactic, but very annoying when you walk in to gloat after a comprehensive victory only for them to do it back to you, and you don't get to enjoy bagging them.

I find this just invites the whole "How many premierships have you won?" line, which always ends badly.
