Sam Edmund - Herald Sun - 7 April
A VIRUS is likely to keep Western Bulldogs skipper Brad Johnson out of the Dogs' showdown with Hawthorn on Sunday.
Johnson was a late withdrawal from the Bulldogs' team against Richmond last Sunday with the virus, which has caused vomiting and a fever.
Dogs coach Rodney Eade said today the illness was of "Dale Morris proportions" - a reference to a bug that laid several Bulldogs players low before Round 1 and forced defender Morris out of the season-opener.
"He (Johnson) has been crook for a couple of days," Eade said this morning.

I've been one of the advocates to let Johnno straight in the side, but with him having this bad dose of flu maybe a stint at Willy this week might be the better option.
I read that the Eagle wasn't in the mix this week either.

I'd prefer he rest to be honest. If he's unwell playing for Willy wont help.

The Doctors always say plenty of rest, he maybe right for training on Friday so the thought process was if he trains give him limited game time at Willy.

Johnno likely to miss Hawks
By Jennifer Witham
Another article obviously written from the same Eade interview. Sheds a little more light on selection for this week and also on some of the disappointing Round 1 performances.
"Midfielder Nathan Eagleton is not yet in consideration for senior selection and will play for Williamstown while Shaun Higgins should be fine despite copping a knock to his calf on Sunday".
"The virus has affected a few Bulldogs with Morris missing round one and Brian Lake, Jarrod Harbrow and Ryan Hargrave feeling off colour throughout the second week".
Note: These are not Eade quotes, but rather statements made in the article by Witham.

If it is anything like the bug I had, where I could not keep anything in - I feel for him.
Sucks every little bit of energy out of you. I very rarely take sick days but I was off work for a week and still could have taken more. Two weeks later I sick have my days.

Higgins & Boyd were both on 'light' duties at training this morning.
Interesting to watch the players do some goal kicking practice as training was finishing up. I must say that Hahn, Griffen & Murphy were kicking at about 1 in 4 from 40m out on slight angles. Pretty poor really. Liam Picken looked pretty sound with his technique.

Looks like a bad case of Yoda Speak (highly contagious think I).

Is it true that fitness staff at football clubs try to limit goal kicking practice as it causes micro tears and fatigue in the quads?

I wonder what this mystery virus is?

.
Boyd was a bit sore, and Higgins worked in the boxing ring with the boxing coach.

Was this mystery virus a bona fide reason for our less than par performance in Round 1? Our intensity was way down on what we showed in the NAB Cup GF.

Well, it sounds like a pretty awful bug as described by fellow Woofer's! Perhaps it was the reason most of them looked so lacklustre in Round 1? A guess the next few weeks will tell us the story :)

I heard Grant Thomas on Monday night say this. That is, that even he as coach would be overruled by his fitness staff on the matter. Rumour also has it that it can lead to reduced kicking effectiveness on goal during matches but this would seem a bit far fetched ;)

I heard that too. I'm as amazed as Garry Lyon seemed to be.

Saw him walking around today, so he is out of bed, but didn't do any training. No rosy cheeks or a smile could be found.:D
