Ode to Rocket

He rubs his balding pate agony at a turnover.
Peels paint off the change room walls with a coaches' spray.
Grits his teeth and massages his forehead at the scoreboard.
Boiling in a blue tracksuit with each bump.
And when they snap true, pumps his fist as though it was he who kicked it.

" Don't die with the Music in you" Rocket Eade, 2008 Prelim Final ( I think )

Q1. What are your favorite rocket moments?
Q2. How useful or necessary is 'the spray'?

Q3. Are coaches like Malthouse and Rocket now being surpassed by the sports scientists, the Brad Scotts, the Garry Lyons?

Great OP and thread!

A1 - Loved that moment from the above image. Also when he went to Coons after a win (2008?) His partner's daughter had been sick, and he'd fronted up, ran hard and tried his guts out. Rocket showed his appreciation. Also when Griff won the Dempsey medal (I think?), was that when his dad had passed away. Rocket also showed his appreciaton, and care for him. Great stuff. In a sick kind of way, I love watching him stomp onto the ground, and the beeline to one of the usual suspects (Lake being a prime one!)... you just know he's gonna give it to them - and you're glad you're not out there!

A2- Useful for some players, Rocket seems adept at knowing who should get one (a spray). As many have said, for some players it doesn't work, often having the opposite of the intended effect.

A3 - No, I don't believe so. Science, though increasingly important/utilised, isn't the whole business. It's a people business too.

Love the Rocket stomp.

Love seeing the theatrics much better than seeing the sport scientist types like Craig and that Flog thug Scott.Gee doesn't the language fly :D

I think most of the coaches in the 16 AFL teams are capable of giving a fair spray.

Brad Scott strikes me as someone who could get quite moody.

No, in this one he's saying "how the fark is it possible to kick it more distance upwards than forwards?".
