"Playmaker is player who launches (first) disposal of a chain that results in a goal or behind in general play from a turnover, 50/50 ballget, clearance, etc."

Scoring involvement is any time a player disposes of the ball anywhere in a chain of posessions that results in a score

Cross is also leading tackler at the dogs, and equal 1st with Morris on 1%ers, 2nd for contested possies etc...

Rather than providing a link to all these stats (which I can't be bothered clicking) can you give us an idea of what the stats show.

Atleast then we/I would have an idea of the point to be made.

Shows how much we as fans under rate Cross, after coming 2nd in the B&F last year too.
It's a shame as a supporter group we often focus on a player's shortcomings at the expense of their attributes.

One stat that I haven't be able to find anywhere is; third man up at stoppages/effectiveness. Cross has a propensity to get involved in rucking duels, making great use of rucking space provided by The People's Beard, Big Willy, Roughie and even Bazza at pocket throw-ins. Got to be close to leading that competition stat if I could find it any!:rolleyes::)

How do you rate effectiveness?

1/ Winning the tap.

OR

2/ Winning the tap and one our players getting the ball.

While our players are generally good at winning the ball on a few occassions yesterday both Cross & Boyd won 3rd man up contests, but hit the ball straight to their direct opponents who of course were unopposed and the ball was cleared.

While it can be a valuable tool I think our players have the tendency to use this play a little too often and it can lose its effect. I like it when we are able to hit the ball away from a congested area, but if the ball is dropped at the base of the pack we will often be out-numbered.

How silly of me, to not clearly see,
That statistic of rucking contention.
My mind still blurred, from the hangover incurred,
I asked the numbers the wrong question! :o

Cross is averaging 2.4 hitouts per game this year. Not bad, not bad at all when most of those have been highy effective in outcomes. :)

Does score involvement not include actual goals? Barry Hall is listed as having an average of only 1.1 score involvements per game, which I can't see being accurate even if it doesn't include the disposal which actually scores.

Critical errors (I think they result in an opposition score), is also interesting. Boyd averages 3 per game, next best (or worst) is Johnno with 2.2, Griff and Hall with 2.1

Probably effective hitouts:confused:

Shows Cross at 1.5.

I usually cringe when Cross and Boyd go up.

Cant possibly include the actual scorer.

You think Hall gives off much more than one score a game? I think it sounds roughly right. Remember, the closer to goal you get, the less chance you are going to have to be involved in scoring without kicking the actual score.

My basic point is that it doesnt matter if you are the flashy guy who receives a handball, runs 20m and delivers it to the forward, or the guy on his hands and knees under the pack who gives off that handball -- both players did their part for the team in getting a shot on goal.
