With still 6 or 7 weeks to go until that last day in September, the side is shaping up nicely for the premiership assault. No major long term injuries at this stage, so if al goes to plan, we will have a full list (aside from Reid..and Aker) to choose from.

Looks a reasonable side for mine.
You don't think we'll look to play at some stage with only one recognised ruck?

I like your team, except Moles, but then I would have to think about whether to replace him with a ruck or another running player. (Certainly not the Bald one)

Not that its a big deal with rotations, but Boyd on the bench is a bit harsh

Notable omission obviously Johnson. I'd be happy leave out our regular big game failures, so I support this.
I can't find a place for Higgins however.

The reports in the Age indicate that Higgins will miss 3 to 4 weeks, to me this rules him out for the season.

Boyd & Cross are interchangable so you can have that one if you wish.

He should be told to get himself right for next year(operation, rest whatever he needs before preseason starts). We can't afford to carry him IMO(especially if we are already carrying Johnno and Ward).

I would like to see us go back to having Griff run off half back.
Although Ward is suffering he will enjoy not playing at Etihad
and I wish we were not playing there in Round 22. That stadium has been our biggest problem all year and if we were a tenent at the G we would be lining up for GF tickets very soon.
Ide like to see Gia move up to the wing and if Boyd or Cross are being beaten
then they can swap.
We must have Murphy in the forward line leading up either side with Grant
so we open up their backs.
Harbrow is a must in the Forward line and Im hoping Eade has been keeping this
move up his sleeve. It is our biggest weakness that other teams have enjoyed
to exploit although he is needed for the opposition small forwards I feel his record isnt
that flash on the best smalls and having him at Halls feet will make us much better.
Wood to rotate with Griff at times so he can pinch hit through the middle.
Although I like Roughead and Minson I think we should look at using Everitt instead
as we will need more mobility at this stage. To many times I have seen our Ruckman being ran around on a wing.
The last spot on the bench is open for someone to claim over the next two weeks but at the moment it would have to be Moles a fit Higgins is easily ahead of him but as we know he isnt and we cannot carry him anymore and his injury may be a blessing in disguise.
OOHRAH THE FFC! :)

I don't agree with all the positions but that would also be my 22 to take on Collingwood.
- One pure ruck with Everitt and Williams to support.
- Murphy to play back and move forward when required, with Harbrow playing as a high half back / sweeping mid. Harbrow may also have stint forward during finals and Wood (if fit) can take his defensive spot.
- If Higgins was 100%, I'd replace Johnson (not that it would happen).
- No Hahn or Eagleton - they've had chances to step up against quality opposition and have failed.
I'm sure the team that actually lines up will look quite different - hopefully it can get the job done.

Jolly would rubbing his hands with the prospect of rucking against Everitt or Williams. How much time does Leeroy Brown spend in the ruck?

I think it's around 35% (could be wrong). Hawkins more than held his own against Minson and Roughead so I'm sure Jolly isn't exactly shaking in his boots coming up against either of them.
IMO, we'd get more out of having Huddo rucking 75% and achieving more run especially against Collingwood.

I just feel that we have to throw off Malthouse a little one of the Pies biggest strengths is they are so organised and we can be a little to predictable at times. Although the tweaks that I made might not be our best on paper I feel it will may make them shuffle their board a little which would work in our favour.
I strongly believe that we cant win the flag with Murphy in the backline I know he looks good down back and creates so much but our Forward line needs him as a target.
If Higgins and Ward were 100% we would be playing Geelong in the first final.
If we play Eagleton or Hahn in the first or third final its lights out. I said my goodbyes to the Eagle on Saturday night. They can be servicable againts the lower teams but not the top 3.

Their mids work of our Ruckman anyway so we might as well be a little more mobile.

More run will be critical and Huddo will love the challenge. :)

It may happen but I am surprised that you would want to bring back Minson and Hahn for Roughead and Jones. Higgins is now most unlikely so take your pick out of Eagleton, Everitt or Hill as his replacement. I like the idea of moving back Murphy to half forward where we clearly lack class and support for Hall in attack.

I'd almost play Bazza at the customary CHF possie to bring Presti out of his comfort zone and parade Grant and Murph either side.
Jones to be in the square with Reid taking him. Johnno or Gia in the other pocket and maybe someone like Picken to play the defensive fwd on Shaw.
I think if we go for the customary set-up, the Pies backline will cut us up with our slowness. I dont think we can allow Bazza, Johnno and Gia all in there at once.
I have included Hill instead of Eagleton as it adds something up fwd if need be. His X factor could come in handy. I do not agree with the MC trying to turn him into a marking fwd and i think that has hindered his development. Let him run a wing where he made that possie his own in his breakout year.
so with that said i'd set up like this..............
B: Gilbee, Lake, Harbrow
HB: Hargrave, Williams, Morris
C: Griffen, Cooney, Hill
HF: Grant, Hall, Murphy
F: Gia, Jones, Picken
FOLL: Hudson, Cross, Boyd
INT: Everitt, Wood, Johnson, Ward (moles)
Ward gets the last spot, but depends on match fitness.
A little iffy on the one ruck, but Everitt showed he is capable against the Pies in rd 22 last year.

Don't accept that Brad Johnson isn't in our best 22, would have him ahead of Higgins, Moles, Ward and Everitt. Johnno for Higgins. Higgins shouldn't play if unfit which appears likely. Agree on no Hahn.
If you are picking a side against Collingwood then just Huddo with Williams/Everitt support is cool, Pies are running teams off their legs and an extra runner is required.
I tend to think Murphy, Harbrow, Lake and Gilbee all should spend time forward of centre to mix it up a bit. My reading suggests we have 8 defenders, ie your back six plus Harbrow and Wood. Reckon Murphy will need to spend around 30% of game forward.
Boyd to lock down on best opposition mid and Picken to play defensive fwd. DFA must be close to beating Moles for a spot.
