It has been reported that both players are a chance to return.
Morris is running and could be back for the Prelim.
Cooney an outside chance if we make the Grand Final.
Finally some cause for hope...

Out of the two I'd say Morris is the only one who could possibly return. The nature of Cooneys injury will effect his explosiveness and the likelihood of reinjury is high. Dales injury on th other hand depending on location and the stability of the fracture could play (remember he played with a broken leg). However if it is at a vertebral level it is very difficult to stabilize sufficiently in order to enhance healing.
We can hope but let's get over this week first.

Im no medical expert but with his type of injury I wouldve thought that collisions would be the main concern.

I slipped on my arse while walking down the stairs at my house in socks and at the time I was holding my moronic cat that thinks it is a dog so was unable to use my hands to break my fall. I think I bruised my coccyx but played soccer the next day and sure enough landed on it very early on.
The next two weeks were undesirable. It taught me a very valuable lesson, never mess around with anything when it is spine/back related. Would be very suprised if they were to risk him if there is an existing fracture.

Morris is likely to play this week, though we won't know for certain until training on Tuesday.
Cooney is still considered to be an outside chance if we get through for the Grand Final. But the rumbling is that the medos are more optimistic.
Things are suddenly looking more ominous than a week ago...
Interesting.
We would certainly need Cooney to beat either Collingwood or Geelong. The Saints are a comparatively low scoring side, so if we were to scrape past someone I guess this is the match-up I would pick...
Still not feeling confident though.

I thought Cooney's hammy was a 10 week injury? Someone was talking porky's then, Hammy's aren't a week by week basis type injury, if it's a bad one, no way known he'd be back.

Using those maths, by Thursday's paper he should be 110% - GF here we come!!! :D:D

No, I'm saying Morris is obviously getting better at a rate of 10% per day

So will we see him on the emergency list or named in the side?
Cooney on that show on channel 9 the other day looked less than optimistic about his own chances.
He did say a maybe for grand final but the fact that he just started running on the treadmill that very day indicates he's a fair way off.
I would of imagined he would lose quite a bit of fitness as well.

I agree, there's a difference between general fitness acquired from a good pre-season and a solid season of football and the continuity of fitness acquired from match exposure. Cooney would have lost match fitness over the past five weeks no question.
Will Cooney at 75% and lacking match fitness provide more in the midfield than an Eagleton or Moles? I don't know, probably, at least it will take Jones away from Griffen.
I saw Cooney on CH 9 and he always looks and reacts like that. Sometimes I think Cooney needs anti-depressants.
As for the Morris conundrum obviously (as well stated) his long term longevity needs to be taken into account with this one and no-one but a specialist is in a position to assess this. IMO if he is given the all clear, then he is all clear and should start on Riewoldt.

Cooney hopping on one leg would provide more than Eagleton v St. Kilda
always right

I'd be happy to have an 80% fit Cooney playing as a forward pocket....as long as there was no possibility of him doing long term damage.

Its finals footy - absolutely no passsengers. Hence an in and under battler like Hooper being more effective than a super classy and skilful - yet injured - Higgins.
Nough said.

Well, I'll have to defer to the medico's judgment, but I'm very wary of playing Morris with that injury. Impact of a collision and who knows what sort of damage could be done.

Riewoldt is more of a leading forward so if the medicos clear him (and his guard is adjudged to be able to help) then I say play him.

Just saw some footage on the news of Morris training and he looked to be very stiff backed, or maybe he is wearing a brace?
I'm not sure i would risk him, especially with a back injury.

Had lunch at the Pound Cafe today, whilst the boys were training. I didn't realise The Glove was out there to be honest. For what it's worth, however, Cooney walked in and ordered some lunch and then sat and looked out on the ground while the boys were training. I went over to talk to him, and said that I thought he looked forlorn, and a little sad. He didn't know what forlorn meant, but said that he was tired, as he had been working hard in the gym (he was in his skins)! I didn't even think to ask him about coming back for the granny - I thought it a bit presumptious! I also chatted to Tommygun and asked if he is carrying an injury - he said, "no, I'm good, no problems at all". He said that Bwian was good too??? (Not sure about that one?)

I'm thinking he had his fingers crossed behind his back...both boys are clearly not 100%

Totally agree. I was in a minor car accident years ago but it was enough to give me occasional back problems to this day. I've also played screen saver, er, I mean soccer with broken bones, but I was the goalkeeper and nobody cares about busted fingers when you've got ten of the bloody things.
I'm sure we'll need The Glove next year as much as next Saturday, and I hope he doesn't risk long term damage.
By the way, if your cat thinks it's a dog then you should have treated it like one... and kicked it down the stairs!

Spiritually I think it would mean so much and give the boys a further boost to the confidence levels.
That said no need to bring him back if he's not 100% right to play, after all the backline has been good and the strength of the team this year.

Dale Morris is the 'skipper' of the defence and marshalls the troops extremely well, without him our backline can look un-organised.
We need him to play.... and I think he will.

With the way the MC chooses the 22 anything is possible, would not want Cooney to play to make the injury worse for the preseason and beyond, he is a to valuable player to risk.

Yeah they are when it comes to dropping experienced players in poor form, which translates into also playing them injured or bringing them back early

To clarify, he didn't know I was a WOOFer, as we only went for lunch and I didn't even realise the boys would still be training. I guess I didn't think that they would come into the cafe to get their lunch either, after training! Yes, the cafe is very good - the food we had was excellent, value for money as it is well-priced and above all, the coffee is very good! Worth a visit next time you are over this way!
