Peter Gordon - The Age - September 18

WELCOME to my September. The feel of spring, the first hint of warmth in the morning sun. Everywhere, people are talking about footy. Everyone seems to have treasured memories of that one day in September.

In city offices, Bomber supporters stare blankly at computer screens, day-dreaming of Michael Long scything through the middle of the MCG. Geelong supporters muse on various acts by various Gary Abletts. Hawks fans ponder the grand final deeds of Cyril Rioli, Dermott or Dipper. Blues fans still hear echoes of Mike Williamson's primal scream: ''Jesaulenko … you beauty!''. Melburnians from every suburb recall going back to Louie's pub or Barassi's or the Hilton main bar after their team had pulled off the big one.

Everyone has a special place in their dreamtimes for that last Saturday in September.

Except Bulldogs fans …

I still like Martin Blake a bit more than 'any other hack with a laptop'.

Funny article:

-Nick Riewoldt getting frees every time he looks at the ball
-Riewoldt kicking after the siren from the goal square to win the game, having won a free for having an interesting surname.
-Molly Meldrum getting rolled out for serial final week cameos

Funny stuff...

But when did Peter Gordon become a journalist?

What a great story even if it was shattering to be reminded of some of those games! Billy Brainless kicking that goal after the siren - it was right in front of me, and the guy sitting next to me bawling his eyes out. Me, I seem to have an ability to block out painful memories like 1997, etc :D His final words are so true, maybe that's why we are superior, cause we just keep thinking......."this time it will be different". That never give up, never give in attitude!

I think that's the clinical definition of insanity.
