Surprised at some of those.

Thought 24 & 39 had been saved specifically for the F/S boys.

Im fairly pleased with Wallis getting 3, if the raps are correct and we've got a good'un then hopefully the tradition is continued.

Wallis in 3 is portentous. I approve.

Wow. Did not expect that. So that leaves 8, 24, 26, 35, 39 and 40.

Is it too late for some players to upgrade? I would like to see Picken, Addison or Jones in 8.

Pleasantly suprised, i'm a big fan of kids of fathers that have played to make a name for themselves in a different number, Mitch in 3 is awesome.

Good to see #21 replaced with great potential, helping us forget its previous gnat-like-owner.

Have to say I'm surprised as well, just assumed that the F/S boys would take their Dad's numbers! Not unhappy about Mitch in 3 - from all accounts so far, he is a likely future leader of our wonderful club!

I might be reading entirely too much into it, but the fact that Mitch chose the sacred number 3 instead of his old man’s just screams of a kid who wants to be ‘the top rooster’. For too long we’ve had a meek and mild playing group; having a young bloke come in who is prepared to take on the pressure and legacy of the number 3 is a very good sign.

He has a long way to go, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he led the Club one day (and secretly deep down he probably can’t wait).

That was supposedly one of the reasons we took Jarrod Grant rather than Lachie Henderson.

Henderson said he wanted to be a team player and contribute. Grant said he wanted to be the man.

Like others I'm very pleased that Mitch got 3. I hope he asked for it.

I'm on the Liam Picken for #8 bandwagon too.

I like that number 10 won't just sit there waiting for a father/son choice. Holding a jumper number for a teenager is the beginning of sending the wrong message IMO.

Wonder if Libba jnr was offered #8?

A tough, inside player who will hopefully continue in the tradition of Danny Southern, Mitch Hahn, Bernard Toohey, Rick Kennedy etc

I've never once heard the word "laconic" used to describe Mitch. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Dre hater, but I'm happier to see Wallis in 3 than Everitt.

IMO they should have retired number 3 for a couple of seasons and waited until they had the right fit.(IMO Picken would have been a good choice)
To be fair the Dre was never ever going to live up to Grant and it may have been a bit unfair for the club to bestow it on him and give him the added pressure.
From all account young Wallis looks like he may be a good fit and a future leader at the club.
I wonder how Wally and Libba feel, that there son's knocked back their numbers ?
Wally still has a shot with his younger bloke picking his number up , if it is available and we draft him.

A certain number 42 might look good in 8, and continue on that tough rugged hardman tradition.

Yep, I remember that.

Henderson started off his career better, but Grant overtook him in the space of 12 months. Let's hope he continues.

Wallis into 3 is huge for the kid. I get the feeling he will do it proud.

Sherman into Eagleton's 10 seems natural. Same sort of player- line breaker and long kicker.

What numbers have our draftees taken?

35 - Tom Hill

This has the potential to continue the streak of injury prone players to wear the 35. Kretiuk was almost always playing with an injury and Tiller's body was very rarely more than 90% fit. Going off Tom Hill's injuries in the past few years this could well continue.

I'm getting very confused with the jumper number system.

When the rookie system was introduced, the rookies were allocated numbers from 40 upwards with the odd number in the forties held by a senior player.

Next season we have 4 senior players with numbers in the forties (41 - Hooper, 42 - Picken, 44 - Moles, & 49 - Cordy), and with Mitch Hahn a rookie (hopefully) still wearing the number 8.

Whilst I don't think it would be fair to re-allocate the #8 if Hahn was to be rookied, I wonder if the players with their jumper numbers in the forties were offered the opportunity to move to a lower number? Obviously, some may not want to (Cordy).

Would anyone know if the higher numbered senior players were offered lower numbers?

Yes, they get first choice to change, next are those traded in, then draftees (in order of drafting), then rookies.

Wouldnt it be great if we could have a ceremonial handing over of the numbers? Ex-legends who wore those numbers handing them over and saying a few words about what the number meant to them whilst welcoming them to the club.
